Cahill unopposed for ninth term as Hampton First Selectman

HAMPTON — Without a challenger, First Selectman Allan Cahill is poised to return to his seat in November, along with the Town Clerk and the Town Treasurer. Cahill, a Republican who has served since 2011. The Democratic Town Committee did not endorse a challenger, paving the way for Cahill's ninth term. The Democratic Town Committee did endorse two candidates to run against Cahill's running mate, John Russell, with the three candidates vying for two seats on the Board of Selectmen. The Democratic candidates are Bob Grindle and John Tillinghast, both of whom are already Selectmen. Tillinghast has served since 2021. Grindle has served alongside Cahill, although in opposite parties, since 2011. Incumbent Town Clerk Kaye Johnson was cross-endorsed by both parties. Incumbent Treasurer Ellen Rodriguez, a Democrat, is unopposed. Five candidates are running for Constable positions, a role that enforces order at public votes, as needed, and controls traffic during emergencies and celebrations. Democrats endorsed Christian Macias-Perez and incumbent Jeffrey Smith Jr. Republicans nominated Ralph Brand and incumbent Wanda Willard. Patrick Navin is a petitioning candidate for the role. For the Board of Assessment Appeals, Democrats nominated Kate Donnelly, while Republicans put up incumbent Board Chair John Berard. For the Board of Finance, Democrats endorsed Kate Donnelly and Frances Gustavesen. Gustavesen is a current alternate member. Republicans selected Juan Arriola and incumbent Board Chair Kathy Donahue. For the Board of Education, Republicans endorsed incumbents Juan Arriola, David Halbach and Timothy Studer, along with Laura Barrow, India McDermott-Arriola and Katherine Newcombe. Democrats nominated incumbents Stephanie Bora, Luther Gerlach and Elizabeth Lindorff, along with Ed Adelman, Irene Brown and Herlande Castillo-Reyes. For the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Republican nominee is incumbent Gary DeCesare, and the Democratic candidate is incumbent Board Chair Kevin Grindle. For the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Democratic caucus selected incumbents Zachary Burdick-Chapel and Shirley Freeman. The Republican party endorsed Mark Cardwell, a current alternate, and Lisa Siegmund. Both the Democratic and the Republican Town Committees caucused on July 15th.

Mansfield DTC nominates candidates for upcoming election

MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Democratic Town Committee held its caucus, during which candidates for the upcoming November election were nominated. Committee chair Ben Shaiken said there were several new candidates who were nominated. 'Like the Republicans, we had a little bit of surprise at our caucus,' Shaiken said. The candidates were a combination of returning and new candidates. For the Town Council, which has two-year terms, current members, including Mayor Toni Moran, Deputy Mayor Ben Shaiken, Sam Bruder and Carlita Cotton, will be returning to the ballot. 'There will be two new Council members, an example of our commitment to recruit new and younger people to serve in public office in Mansfield,' Moran said. Newcomers Sarah Dufresne and Lizzie Mullen will be joining the ballot this fall. For the Planning & Zoning Commission, which has six-year terms, Zachary Anglin and newcomer Kenneth Rawn will be on the ballot. Joshua Walters and newcomer Alex Marcellino will be running for the Planning & Zoning Commission as alternates, which has a four-year term. For the Mansfield Board of Education, which has six-year terms, the three Democratic candidates include newcomers Kristen Dllaj, Haley Gross de Jimenez and John Fratiello, Jr. The Region 19 Board of Education candidates include two newcomers, Gregory Miller and Kathleen Tonry. 'There will also be two new members on the Region 19 board, a response to the demand from the E.O. Smith community for a change in leadership,' Moran said. Newcomer Max Gigle and Darwin A. Jurado will run for the Zoning Board of Appeals, which has a four-year term. The Zoning Board of Appeals alternate, which has a four-year term, includes newcomers Warren Murphy and Stephen Martin. The last category on the caucus was the Board of Assessment Appeals, which has a two-year term and includes Shannon Hirsch Sion and Barbara Vaughan. 'I am very happy with our caucus and excited to get the campaign going,' Shaiken said. 'More than 150 people showed up, which is amazing and truly shows enthusiasm for Democratic ideas this cycle.' Tom DeVivo receives Windham DTC endorsement for mayor

WINDHAM — The Windham Democratic Town Committee held its caucus and candidates for the upcoming November election were endorsed. Committee chair Bill Sayers said the Democrat slate presented is an exceptional group of people who have the best interests of the people of Windham at heart. 'This slate presents stability and growth for Windham,' Sayers said. 'I'm excited to show the voters what's in store. This is exactly what we were hoping for.' Mayor Tom DeVivo will seek re-election in hopes of retaining his seat. He said he was humbled by the nomination and the support of the town committee. The council at-large includes incumbents Dawn Niles, Randall Prose and Bill Sayers. The Windham council includes incumbents Joe Pliss, Rodney Alexander, Edelmiro Rios and Clinton Adams. For the Board of Education, newcomers Gary Getzer, Paula Haney and Catherine Pomo will be running. The Board of Finance will have incumbents Tyler Griffin, Kevin Donahue, Mary Ann Daly, Garnet McLaughlin and Peter Hughes coming back to renew their seats. Incumbents Adam Richardson, Jared Lietzel and Dennis O'Brien and newcomer Kale Postler will run for the Willimantic Taxing District Board of Directors. Board of Assessment Appeals incumbent Murphy Sewall and newcomer Susan Hunter will run for two spots. Incumbent Barbara McGrath and newcomer Gary Fetzer will run for the spots open on the Zoning Board of Appeals. 'I believe the voters of Windham will vote to elect the entire Democratic slate,' Sayers said. 'We have the experience, ability and desire to move Windham forward.'
