Met Gala 2025: Doechii Responds to Controversy in TikTok
Originally appeared on E! Online Doechii had just a little anxiety about her first Met Gala. And she's in a space to joke about it. Following the backlash she received after she was heard yelling for more umbrellas before leaving The Mark Hotel to attend the May 5 event, the 'What It Is' musician explained herself. In a TikTok video shared May 7, the 26-year-old slowly backs away from the camera while holding up her hands as 'Easy' by The Commodores plays. Poking fun at the moment, the caption over the video read, 'God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas.' Further elaborating, Doechii wrote a longer caption under the video. 'All jokes aside this was such an overstimulating night,' the 'Denial Is a River' rapper wrote. 'But I wouldn't trade it for the world! This was the night we all dreamed of and my team killed it (umbrellas aside).' Doechii's comments were filled with support as one user quipped, 'God forbid a girl finally makes it to THE MET GALA cut my girl some slack frrrr.' JT from The City Girls related to the moment, writing, 'That was anxietyyyyyyy! Big night! Your debut! Getty was there, I get it! You ate!' More from E! In videos shared on social media, the 'Egypt' rapper is heard yelling for more umbrellas as she stands in a box—hoping to conceal her outfit from the crowd and the rain outside of the hotel. Eventually, her team gathers more umbrellas and she is pushed outside into a sprinter van. Making her debut at the gala, the Grammy winner rocked a custom short suit designed by Pharrell Williams for Louis Vuitton. Tailoring the look specifically to her, the rapper sported a perfectly crafted afro, custom LV gold fronts and a cigar. Doechii further explained her reaction and expressed her gratitude for evening in a message on her Instagram Story. 'And all jokes aside I'm so proud of my glam team and the LV team for an incredible night,' she wrote May 7. 'We've been dreaming about this Met for a long time and the theme this year is in such alignment with who I am what I stand for. It's nothing but God that this year was our debut.' 'Everyone killed it,' she continued. 'We nailed the theme. And a time was had.' Doechii says openly using face tape helps her ‘embrace imperfection', but does it?
Most people know Doechii for her impeccably timed fast-paced rhymes – they're what earned her multiple awards, including a Grammy, and the title of Billboard Woman of the Year. But the US rapper is increasingly standing out for something other than her music: visible face tape. The Denial Is a River singer has proudly displayed the beauty hack on stage at the Grammys, while performing at festivals, and on social media. According to her stylist Sam Woolf, it's her way of exposing things that are 'meant to be hidden' – and being more vulnerable. A growing number of celebrities and beauty influencers appear to be taking a more open and transparent approach to beauty hacks or procedures. Stars like Ariana Grande are sharing their ' button-nose tricks ' on TikTok, while others like Martha Stewart are opening up about previous beauty procedures. So, why are more celebrities opening up about their appearance, and what could it mean for the rest of us? Wait, what is face tape? Face tape is precisely what it sounds like – tape applied to the face. Two small strips of tape, which are usually attached by an elasticised band, are attached to the temples to create a smooth, wrinkle-free look. In other words, it 'tightens' the face to create a more youthful appearance. It's not uncommon for models and celebrities to wear face tape, but it's usually hidden underneath or within their hair. Doechii, on the other hand, wears it where it can be seen, even sometimes bedazzling the tape pieces. Though the rapper has adopted it as one of her signature looks, other celebrities, including Charli XCX, have also worn visible face tape during public appearances. It has even become something of a staple on certain fashion runways, such as those of Givenchy and, most recently, Valentino.

Doechii Revives Tenniscore With a Dandy Twist at Uber & Delta Event
Doechii is everywhere. The Grammy award-winning rapper has become a hot commodity, so getting any opportunity to see the 'Denial Is a River' singer perform is an absolute treat. And that's exactly what happened for select members of Uber and Delta's membership clubs on April 24, 2025. Doechii arrived on stage wearing a matching Miu Miu set very reminiscent of our favorite tenniscore era. For those who forgot, tenniscore is the sartorial leaning into preppy aesthetics reminiscent of our favorite tennis athletes. Whether they're legit like Coco Gauff or Serena Williams or fictional like Zendaya in Challengers, tenniscore took over all of our closets in 2024, and it seems Doechii is here for its revival. Merging athletic functionality with country club sophistication, this trend features classic silhouettes, with a focus on pleated skirts, crisp polo shirts, and sweater vests, all presented with a fresh, fashion-forward twist. Designers and brands — from Miu Miu to Sporty & Rich — have embraced the look, which is why it was such a pleasant surprise to see Doechii in her Miu Miu getup. The 26-year-old wore a navy blue set consisting of a pleated skirt and a knit-like, sleeveless sweater. She paired the look with calf-length white socks and brown loafers. She finished off the outfit, adding a newsboy hat, which gave the look an almost Dandyism meets tennsicore vibe. (Clearly, the Met Gala is on all of our minds!) Doechii wore this moment while in Atlanta performing at the pop-up event between Uber and Delta. Starting this week, the two travel businesses teamed up so that Delta SkyMiles Members and Uber customers in the US can link their accounts and start earning miles. After linking their accounts, members can earn three miles per eligible dollar spent on Uber Reserve trips, two miles per eligible dollar spent on premium rides such as Uber Comfort and Uber Black, one mile per eligible dollar spent on UberX rides to and from airports, and one mile per eligible dollar spent on $40+ restaurant and grocery orders with Uber Eats. This new partnership is part of both industries' efforts to attract more young people to join longstanding membership programs and build loyalty. They also are using this partnership to explore more experience opportunities for its members, like the Doechii performance and party. 'As we engage with the younger customer base, we want to make sure that they see us aligned with brands that they already love and appreciate and actually enjoy in their day-to-day lives,' Prashant Sharma, vice president of loyalty at Delta Air Lines, tells Teen Vogue. 'A place where we are maybe particularly excited is how do we get younger travelers who probably start their Uber journey before they start picking out which airline is their favorite airline. It gives us a chance to connect with them, but really, this partnership is for everyone. There'll be road warriors who are Diamond Medallions who are taking Uber, and they will appreciate the fact that they're more rewarded for their ride by Delta. But we also expect to engage much more with the younger audience and then getting them exposed to us as well.' So whether it's Doechii in her tenniscore gear on stage or just the events themselves, we're bound to see more of our favorite stars out and about serving as a connecting string between Gen Z and these companies.
