‘Health is Wealth' free services and giveaways
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — In celebration of Black History Month and American Heart Month, a local nonprofit invites the community to get a free blood pressure and glucose test, door prizes, and other resources.
The event is to raise awareness about heart disease as it is very common. The Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency 'LOPA' says that in the United States, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups. In 2022, 1 in every 5 deaths in the U.S. was caused by heart disease. The need for organ donation is urgent.

LOPA says that over 3,000 people in the United States are currently waiting for a heart transplant. By learning more and spreading awareness, we can help save lives.
The 'Health is Wealth' education seminar features guest speakers:
Dr. Dennis Britten, Cardiologist at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center
Sharde Plater, President & Co-Founder of The Janiyah Strong Foundation
The event begins Wednesday, February 19th from noon to 1 p.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church, 5340 Jewella Ave, Shreveport.
