Denver Nuggets' president Josh Kroenke confirms appointment of David Adelman as head coach (Image Source: Getty) The Denver Nuggets have made a big decision ahead of a very important offseason. After being knocked out by the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7, the team has chosen David Adelman as their full-time head coach. Adelman had taken over temporarily after head coach Michael Malone and General Manager Calvin Booth were both fired just before the 2025 NBA playoffs. David Adelman appointed as head coach for Denver Nuggets Even though some people were surprised by the sudden firing, David Adelman has done a pretty decent job. Adelman worked closely with star player Nikola Jokic and let him help lead the team. Under Adelman, the Denver Nuggets managed to secure their last three regular-season games, and beat the LA Clippers in the first playoff round, and almost made it to the Western Conference Finals. Team president Josh Kroenke said he chose to keep David Adelman as head coach to help the Denver Nuggets remain strong. The team still doesn't have a permanent general manager, but Kroenke believes Adelman can guide them back to the top. Adelman has now officially taken over as the Nuggets' new head coach. Kroenke said, ' We are going to be moving forward with David Adelman as our head coach for next season and beyond. I think the way that the group really rallied around him, and not only a different voice, but a different style of communication, was fantastic to see. ' He added, ' We are really excited about him, both what he's shown over the last six weeks and then having a full summer, a full training camp and a full year to get things under his belt before we go back at it again this time next year .' 'I think a lot of our answers are internal right now, " said Kroenke. "With where we are from a roster standpoint, we have guys locked into contracts. We're going into a coaching transition. And to be frank, that's a huge change. Huge change. … DA's philosophy, how he might use these guys slightly differently, there's gonna be a lot of big changes throughout our organization already," he said. These two players' stats could decide 2025 NBA MVP race tonight

These two players' stats could decide 2025 NBA MVP race tonight Editor's note: The NBA MVP award is voted on by 100 members of the media, chosen by the league. Voting takes places before the postseason. USA TODAY Sports reporter Jeff Zillgitt has a vote. Oklahoma City Thunder's all-star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver Nuggets' all-star center Nikola Jokić are considered the front runners for 2025 NBA Most Valuable Player award. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, a finalist, is also part of the conversation. The NBA MVP award winner will be announced Wednesday, May 21, before Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals (7 p.m. ET, TNT). When comparing the front runners' stats, the choice isn't as clear as some previous years have been. Gilgeous-Alexander averaged a league-best and career-high 32.7 points, and also led the league with 7.9 free throws made per game. On the other hand, Jokić filled out the stat lines: He averaged 29.6 points – third behind Antetokounmpo – while averaging double-digit rebounds (3rd) and assists (2nd). How Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokić compare How Gilgeous-Alexander's shot selection compares with Jokić's Gilgeous-Alexander took 292 more shot attempts than Jokić and scored more points. But while Gilgeous-Alexander played in six more games than Jokić, each player played about the same number of minutes: How Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokić compare with advanced metrics Jokić led the league in triple-doubles (34) and was No. 1 in player efficiency rating (PER) – a measurement of players positive and negative plays – with a rating of 32.12, which was the second-highest of his career. Gilgeous-Alexander's PER was second-best at 30.73. It's rare for a guard to reach a PER of of at least 30. James Harden in 2018-19 was the last guard to top 30. Gilgeous-Alexander's mark is the second-highest of any guard in the past decade, trailing Steph Curry's 31.56 in 2015-16. How Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokić compare in total points Gilgeous-Alexander's 2,484 points this season were more than 400 ahead of Jokić. But on Jokić's side of the ledger, he had a 60-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist performance against Minnesota. It was just the third 60-point triple-double in NBA history. Both their scoring totals have put them on a path with some of the leagues best.

(AP Photo/Nate Billings) OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Nikola Jokic was nearly unstoppable against Oklahoma City's gritty, aggressive defense. The Thunder made a valiant effort to disrupt him, as they have all series. Denver's superstar center still had 44 points and 15 rebounds on Tuesday night. He made 17 of 25 shots, with many of them closely contested. Advertisement It wasn't enough. Oklahoma City beat Denver 112-105, and now the Nuggets will return home trailing their Western Conference semifinal series 3-2 and facing elimination in Game 6 on Thursday. Jokic said Oklahoma City still played the same kind of defense that bothered him in Games 2 through 4, when he shot just 33% from the field and 18.2% from 3-point range. He again mostly dealt with 7-foot-1 Chet Holmgren, 7-footer Isaiah Hartenstein and the rugged, energetic Jaylin Williams. To Jokic, the difference was simple. 'The ball is going in," he said. "They were still doing what they're doing.' Advertisement Jokic made 8 of 13 shots and scored 19 points in the first half. 'He made the touch shots around the rim that seemed like hadn't been going his way lately, which is surprising because he's been so good at it for so long,' Denver interim coach David Adelman said. 'Once he saw those go in, it just kind of unleashed everything else.' But Jokic's teammates struggled. Jamal Murray scored 28 points but made just 10 of 27 shots. Aaron Gordon scored 13 points. No other Nuggets player scored more than eight points. Jokic's teammates made 23 of 72 shots and scored just 61 points. 'We had a great performance from Nikola, just have to have a few other guys have a game, which we can do in Game 6," Adelman said. 'I have full confidence in our guys.' Advertisement Denver took an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter, but Oklahoma City outscored the Nuggets 34-19 in the final period. Jokic said falling short was disappointing, but he believes the Nuggets still can win the series. 'I mean, of course, it happens,' he said of the rough finish. 'And some people will say that we were not supposed to win Game 1, but we won it. And then Game 3, we didn't play very well, but we won. ... It's a playoff. It's a series. Every game is different." ___ AP NBA:
