Boulder rolls over home, smashes car along Kennon Road

A boulder came tumbling down the mountain along Kennon Road in Benguet on Saturday afternoon, crushing a home and smashing a car as Baguio City and other areas in the upland province continued to be pummeled by heavy rains. In a Facebook post, the Baguio City government said the incident occurred at 1:15 p.m. in Camp 7 of Kennon Road. A dog was killed while no human casualties were reported. The house, which was built near the road, was empty as the family residing in the structure was evacuated as amid the effects of Tropical Storm Crising and the southwest monsoon or habagat. Response teams were deployed at the scene to investigate and provide necessary assistance. The city's social welfare and development office were set to attend to the needs of the affected residents. "Kennon Road remained closed as of 4 p.m. due to 'continuous rockfall at the entrance of the rockshed,'" the Baguio City government said, quoting the Department of Public Works and Highways Cordillera. According to its 4 p.m. forecast bulletin, state weather bureau PAGASA said the southwest monsoon continues to affect the country as Crising remains outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Benguet was among the areas in the Cordillera Administrative Region which were expected to experience occasional rains due to the habagat. Floods or landslides in these provinces were possible due to moderate to heavy rains, PAGASA said. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
