‘America Party' launched: Musk hints at election plans; Can he run for president in 2028?

announced his new political outfit, the 'America Party,' on Saturday against the backdrop of a strained relationship and public fallout with US President Donald Trump, his former ally. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The agenda of this new party is aimed at challenging the 'one-party system', which Musk calls 'formed to give you back your freedom'. The new announcement has sparked speculations about whether Musk would run for president in 2028 or who would be the other party leaders. Replying to X user who asked Musk about his election plans, 'Midterms or 2028?', to which he responded, 'Next year'. Under current constitutional rules, Musk is ineligible to seek the presidency. Article II, Section 1 of the US Constitution requires presidential candidates to be natural-born citizens, which legally disqualifies Musk from running for the nation's highest office. In 2024, Musk publicly acknowledged his ineligibility, stating, 'I cannot be president because of my African birth.' He also said at the time, 'My grandfather was American, but I was born in Africa, so I cannot be president.' While campaigning for the 2025 elections alongside Trump last year, Musk made his political ambitions clear when he said, ' I actually don't want to be president. I want to build rockets and cars.' Musk committed to working on government efficiency if Trump is re-elected. He said, 'I'm hoping that we get President Trump elected, and then I'll work hard on the Department of government efficiency.' Cut to July 4, when Musk posted a poll on his social media platform X asking users whether they wanted 'independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system.' The poll received over 1.2 million responses, with the majority voting in favour. Musk responded, 'By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!' He also posted a meme depicting a two-headed snake with the caption 'End the Uniparty,' indicating his push for an alternative to the traditional Democratic and Republican dominance in US politics.

The biggest industry winners, losers after key labor data report

While the May jobs report saw an overall addition of 139,000 non-farm payrolls within the month, federal government roles declined by 22,000. Yahoo Finance senior reporter Allie Canal analyzes which industries saw the biggest job gains and losses in May, with the health care sector seeing an addition of 62,000 jobs. To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Morning Brief here. The bay jobs report showing 139,000 jobs added with unemployment holding steady at 4.2%. Our very own Alexandra Canal joining us now for a deeper dive into some of the numbers. Hey Alex. Hi Brad, yes, well, I want to start with government jobs, particularly federal employment. All eyes are on those layoffs from the Department of government efficiency, otherwise known as Doge. And for the month of May, we did see federal employment continue to decline down 22,000 since January. That sector of jobs down by 59,000. Again, as a reminder, employees who are on paid leave, or they're receiving ongoing severance, they are counted as employed in this establishment survey. So possibly, we are going to see more pain to come over the coming months and into the fall. And that's something that economists have been saying to us. And also economists have been telling us that federal spending cuts might have spillover effects into other sectors of the economy, such as state and local government employment in education, along with health care. But so far, we are not seeing that materialize. And I want to talk about health care because added 62,000 jobs in May, higher than the average monthly gain that we've seen over the past year. The bulk of those gains concentrated in hospitals, leisure and hospitality, also a standout here. Significant move to the upside, 48,000 jobs added, more than double its average monthly gain. This was largely in food services and drinking places. And with the summer season fast approaching, it's not totally a surprise that we saw that upward trend there. But I am curious if we see a consumer that potentially pulls back on their discretionary spend, maybe they don't go out, dine out as often, how that potentially could trickle through into the employment situation there. But so far, not seeing that just yet. And then finally, I do want to end on manufacturing, pretty much little change there. We saw a decline of 8,000 jobs. That was a bit more significant than what we saw in April, when employment in manufacturing declined by 1,000. Tariffs are something that could significantly weigh on the manufacturing sector. And we could see that in upcoming reports. And we know that June report is going to be coming at a time when potentially we could see the Trump tax bill be signed into Congress. We could also potentially have those reciprocal tariffs in play. So a lot to come in the months ahead. But so far this report showing that we have a pretty stable labor market right now. Elon Musk announces birth of ‘14th' child - a son named Seldon Lycurgus

Elon Musk's ever-growing brood of children has expanded once again after he confirmed the arrival of a new son named Seldon Lycurgus. The baby is believed to be his 14th child and the fourth he has had with Shivon Zilis, a Canadian executive at Neuralink, his neurotechnology firm. The billionaire, now working with Donald Trump as the head of the Department of government efficiency or Doge, has forged a reputation for giving his children highly unusual names, including Exa Dark Sideræl, Strider, Azure and X Æ A-12, known as X for short. Ms Zilis announced on X, the social media platform owned by Mr Musk, and also disclosed the name of their third child, which had been unknown until now. 'Discussed with Elon and, in light of beautiful Arcadia's birthday, we felt it was better to also just share directly about our wonderful and incredible son Seldon Lycurgus,' 38-year-old Ms Zilis wrote. 'Built like a juggernaut, with a solid heart of gold. Love him so much,' she wrote. Mr Musk responded with a heart emoji. The founder of SpaceX and Tesla believes that humanity is at risk from declining birth rates and has signalled his intention to have a large number of children. 'Bravo to big families,' the 53-year-old billionaire said three years ago. He has described falling birth rates as 'the biggest danger civilisation faces by far.' His offspring have been born to at least three different women: Ms Zilis; the Canadian electropop musician Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher; his ex-wife, author Justine Wilson; and, allegedly, with a glamorous young Maga influencer called Ashley St Clair, 26. She has filed a lawsuit claiming that Musk is the father of her five-month-old son. Ms St. Clair says there is no doubt about the paternity of the baby. In her lawsuit, she insisted that she 'did not have sexual intercourse with any other male during the time the child was conceived.' As part of her evidence, she included text messages allegedly sent to her by Mr Musk. In one exchange, he allegedly wrote: 'I look forward to seeing you and him this weekend.' On X, she wrote: 'Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father.' Mr Musk has yet to respond publicly to her claim. At the time that she met Mr Musk, she was working for the conservative satirical website The Babylon Bee - a Christian, Right-wing version of The Onion. A regular guest on conservative news outlets, she has warned about declining birth rates in developed countries - a concern shared by many Republicans. Mr Musk has six children with his first wife, followed by three with the musician Grimes and now four with Ms Zilis.
