Final Derby 2025 field as 19 horses line up for the £1.5 Epsom Classic

Ryan Moore has been confirmed to ride the ante-post joint favourite Delacroix who shares the head of the sponsor's betting after Ruling Court received a favourable draw The £1.5 million Betfed Derby has attracted the biggest field since 2003 after a whopping 19 horses were declared for Britain's richest race on Wednesday. The line-up was completed at a special draw ceremony in Epsom town centre where Derby-winning jockeys Willie Carson and Martin Dwyer picked the stalls positions, which could have a direct bearing on the outcome of the race. Ante-post favourites Delacroix, who will be ridden by Ryan Moore, and 2,000 Guineas winner Ruling Court secured favourable berths in 14 and 7 respectively. ‌ Yet The Lion In Winter, Aidan O'Brien's deposed favourite, will have to overcome a wide 19 draw. O'Brien's third representative, Lambourn, the Chester Vase winner, got the 'lucky stall' and will start from 10, from which 11 winners have emerged. ‌ For the first time ever, the race was subject to 72-hour declarations, with Epsom hoping the change helps to build anticipation ahead of the premier Classic. There will be a second runner in the Godolphin blue as Saeed bin Suroor's Tornado Alert (11), fourth in the Guineas, also runs for Sheikh Mohammed's operation. Ralph Beckett's Pride Of Arras arrives unbeaten and a smooth winner of the Dante, which is traditionally one of the strongest trials, but he is posted wide in 16, with stablemate Stanhope Gardens on the inside in two. John and Thady Gosden also have multiple chances with Damysus (15) and Nightwalker (five), who were second and fifth in the Dante. There are two runners from France in Francis-Henri Graffard's Midak (four) and Henri-Francois Devin's New Ground (17), with the pair both supplemented for the race on Monday. Charlie Johnston has declared both Lazy Griff (three), second to Lambourn at Chester, and Green Storm (eight), the mount of Billy Loughnane. Al Wasl Storm (13), Nightime Dancer (nine), Rogue Impact (one), Sea Scout (18), Tennessee Stud (12) and Tuscan Hills (six) complete the list. ‌ Epsom's clerk of the course Andrew Cooper expects the ground to ride on the easy side of good at the weekend. He said: 'It's been a difficult spring, it's been so dry, this is my 30th Derby and I've never known such a prolonged dry period. 'It's been challenging, it hasn't been great for grass, it's been constant irrigation just to get where we want to be. Here and now I would call it good, that follows 3.5 millimetres of rain yesterday afternoon which was forecast but very localised. 'It looks like another spell of rain is coming tomorrow and Saturday, with the potential to have some heavy showers. It's unsettled for sure. On a raceday it doesn't take a lot to start shifting descriptions. 'I can't see a scenario with ground any quicker than good on Saturday and there's every indication we'll be on the slower side through the two days.' The Charlie Appleby-trained Treanmor is by super stallion and greatest of all time Frankel. 1 Treanmor is a son of the all-conquering, unstoppable, unbelievable Frankel Credit: Reuters Already punters are asking if it's time to start comparing him to his legendary dad after his electrifying debut at Newmarket. Treanmor fetched the almighty sum when he was bought by Godolphin at the Goffs Orby Book 1 last October. Sheikh Mohammed, the billionaire ruler of Dubai, snapped up the top three lots at that sale, totalling a spend of £3.3m on that trio alone. But it was Treanmor that cost the most - and he showed exactly why at HQ. Sent off 30-100 under William Buick, he led easily over one furlong from the post in the 6f contest and was merely ridden out to win. Former Derby-winning jockey and now Racing TV pundit Martin Dwyer revealed the sense of excitement and expectation around the colt ahead of his debut. Speaking on the Oddschecker Racing Weekly show, he said: "Everybody was saying we're going to see a rocket in this race. "Even trainers that had a runner in the race were telling me, 'No, we're not going to beat this. He is a rocket'. "And he won in great style - he really did look impressive. "When the gates opened he was quick into his stride but William Buick restrained him and took him nearly to the back of the field. "It was firm ground and everyone was racing on the front end at Newmarket, which can be a front-runner's track. "But William dropped him in and gave him ground to make up because he wanted to educate the horse. "If he'd let him stride from the gates he wouldn't have seen another horse and he wouldn't have learned enough. "He would have done a Frankel in the Guineas." Royal Ascot will be Treanmor's next stop - but which race is yet to be fully decided. Appleby suggested he will go to the 7f Listed Chesham on the Saturday, for which Unibet make him 2-1 favourite. That's a price that could look an absolute gift on the day, if this debut is anything to go by. ‘Cheat!' – Kieran Shoemark suffers more heartbreak as owners see £150,000 go up in flames after ‘disgraceful' finish

It looked like Shoemark, who earlier in the week lost his job as John & Thady Gosden's No1 rider, had won the French 1000 Guineas on syndicate horse Shes Perfect. 2 Incredibly, jockey Mickael Barzalona resorted to using his hand after dropping the whip 2 Poor Kieran Shoemark suffered more devastation after losing the French 1000 Guineas in the stewards' room following a brilliant ride - just days after he lost his job as the No1 jockey for John & Thady Gosden Credit: Getty The Charlie Fellowes-trained filly, sent off 18-1, rallied strongly in the final furlong-and-a-half after being headed when it got to crunch time. She was first past the post and appeared to have nabbed the £250,000 first-place prize by a nose at Longchamp racecourse in Paris. Photos were even taken of overjoyed connections celebrating their big win. Until a stewards' enquiry was launched soon after the finish following an objection from former Derby-winning rider Mickael Barzalona, jockey of runner-up Zarigana. It was tricky to see with the naked eye in real time, but, despite Shoemark doing all he could to keep Shes Perfect on a true line, she edged to her left. That sparked a domino effect that saw Ryan Moore on Exactly short of room, bumping into the path of 4-5 fav Zarigana, who ran in the famous Aga Khan silks forever associated with Shergar. Incredibly, Barzalona also dropped his whip, meaning he resorted to smacking his filly with his hand for the final, crucial few yards. Zarigana was forced off her true line ever so slightly - whether it was enough to make a difference to the result is a topic of hot debate. But stewards clearly thought it was, ultimately deciding to demote Shes Perfect to second and a cheque of 'only' £100,000. Punters were up in arms over the decision, with a report from the course saying the owners were left 'visibly shaken'. To his credit, Zarigana's trainer Francis-Henri Graffard said it was not the way he wanted to win. But the result ultimately stood, robbing Fellowes of his first Group 1, the British syndicate a dream win and Shoemark redemption after the week from hell. Fellowes said: "We came so close. It's heartbreaking because I really needed a big win. Winning a Classic - that's the dream of my life." While Graffard said: "We don't like winning races this way, and I feel sorry for the Shes Perfect team. "But this is racing. To be honest, my filly was unbalanced at the worst possible moment, and at the end, we're only talking about a nose. "I'm really happy for Zarigana. "But it's hard to feel joy, I feel more relief." A report in the Racing Post said cries of 'cheat' and 'disgrace' rang around the winner's enclosure afterwards. While a load of punters were up in arms at the result afterwards - although others thought the reversal of places was justified. Those punters who bet on the race with Paddy Power and BoyleSports were winners either way, as they paid out as winners both Zarigana and Shes Perfect.
