New Report Emerges on Rejected Celtics-Raptors Trade

New Report Emerges on Rejected Celtics-Raptors Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Because the Boston Celtics entered the offseason hoping to save money, trade suitors were willing to offer them valuable assets for some of their players. The Toronto Raptors offered the No. 9 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft for Derrick White, per The Ringer's Zach Lowe, but the Celtics declined and then some. "There were reports that the Raptors offered No. 9 for Derrick White," Lowe said on June 26. "I'm told that's true, but it happened like a month-and-a-half ago, right after Jayson Tatum got hurt, and Boston laughed at that offer and said, 'We need way more than No. 9 for Derrick White.'" White is still on the team and will enter the first year of a four-year, $118 million contract when the 2025-26 season starts. The Raptors kept the pick and used it to draft Collin Murray-Boyles. As it turns out, White wasn't the only Celtic the Raptors inquired about. Jake Fischer told CLNS Media's Bobby Manning on The Garden Report that the Raptors offered a similar trade for Jrue Holiday. "Toronto Raptors were calling for the number nine pick for Jrue and for Derrick," Fischer said. "I don't think Boston ever really was so interested in that selection for one of those types of guys." Holiday was instead traded to the Portland Trail Blazers for Anfernee Simons. Kristaps Porzingis was later traded to the Atlanta Hawks in a three-way trade that sent them Massachusetts native Georges Niang in return. Boston Celtics "never really" planned on trading two key stars

Jaylen Brown and Derrick White have both been floated in trade rumors throughout the opening weeks of the NBA offseason. The Boston Celtics have been retooling their roster following the Achilles injury that Jayson Tatum sustained during the playoffs against the New York Knicks. Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis have already been moved on via trade. Luke Kornet left in free agency, signing with the San Antonio Spurs, while Al Horford is yet to decide on his future. During a recent appearance on CLNS Media's "The Garden Report" podcast, NBA Insider Jake Fischer revealed that Boston "never really planned" on moving Brown or White via a trade. As such, White and Brown will be the top two options in Joe Mazzulla's rotation next season. "I think all along there was never really a plan to move Jaylen or Derrick," Fischer said. "So I don't think anything got close, and I don't think they were really willing to move those guys either. Like, you would have had to make a trade—Desmond Bane, Mikal Bridges–type of offer—for Derrick White. And honestly, for Jaylen—as great as he is—I think a lot of teams look at his salary number and go: 'Why would you be paying what Boston values him at, for that contract?' Tatum won't be on the injury report forever. At worst, he will return to the rotation for the 2026-27 season. Therefore, trading away other top-level stars for a one-season gap year doesn't make sense. Sure, the Celtics have some cap space issues, but there are other ways to approach getting under the second apron. Stevens achieved that goal momentarily, before Josh Minott put the team marginally back over the second luxury tax line. Stevens has made some tough decisions this summer and will likely need to make a few more in the coming weeks and months. Nevertheless, unless a mammoth deal crosses the Celtics' desk, Brown and White should be part of the lineup this season, and in the years to come when Boston is back to contending for championships. Derrick White Breaks Silence After Celtics Trades

Derrick White Breaks Silence After Celtics Trades originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Celtics made a few seismic changes this offseason, most notably trading Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. Boston did this not because they wanted to get rid of those two per se, but because they wanted to get under the NBA's second tax apron. Advertisement Other Celtics also appeared in trade rumors, like Derrick White, who was floated as a potential trade target for the Golden State Warriors by Logan Murdock. However, nothing ever materialized from that and White remains a Celtic. Regardless, the Celtics will be a very different team next year. Not just from trading Porzingis and Holiday, but also because Luke Kornet has left for San Antonio, and indications are Al Horford will leave too. Plus, Jayson Tatum likely won't play during the 2025-26 season. While talking with NBC Sports' Chris Forsberg, White talked about their losses and what's to come next season. Advertisement "It's always tough to see guys leave, especially people that you won a championship with and had so many great battles with," White told Forsberg. "Obviously, seeing KP and Jrue get traded, it was tough to see. And then Luke (Kornet) signs somewhere else. "Having a different team and having those guys leave is kind of difficult, but it's part of the business, and I'm confident the guys that we have coming in and the guys that we still have returning. So it's gonna be a lot of fun, and it's gonna be a different challenge, but I think that's just the great thing about basketball." Unless the Celtics make more changes before the new season starts, White's new teammates will be Anfernee Simons, Georges Niang, Josh Minott, Luka Garza, Hugo Gonzalez, and Max Shulga. Division rival's bold claim could spell trouble for Celtics

The Boston Celtics are in the middle of a transformative offseason, and it could spell trouble for them next season. Over the course of the past few months, the Celtics have been one of the most active teams around the league. After being upset in the second round of the playoffs, all of the noise about Boston having to break up its title team for financial reasons began to come true. Advertisement With Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis being traded and Luke Kornet and likely Al Horford on the way out, Boston is set to lose half of its rotation from last season, along with Jayson Tatum recovering from injury. That has left many to believe that the Celtics will essentially be taking a gap year in 2026. With Tatum out, the team's hopes of competing for a title are on hold for a year. Still, the Celtics would like to compete for a playoff spot and give themselves a chance with Jaylen Brown and Derrick White leading the way. Considering their situation, it might be difficult to secure a playoff spot, especially as other teams become more confident. In a recent story from The Athletic's Eric Koreen, Toronto Raptors star Brandon Ingram showed off some of that confidence. 'We're making the playoffs next year, for sure,' Ingram said. Advertisement Toronto hasn't made the playoffs since 2022, but with some solid moves over the past couple of years, the Raptors are in a position to return to the East's top eight. If they do, the Celtics might just be one of the teams on the outside looking in.

Celtics rumors: The player with no trade ‘buzz'

The post Celtics rumors: The player with no trade 'buzz' appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Boston Celtics are in the midst of a transitional period that has already seen key contributors from their 2024 championship team be traded away. But, one key Celtics role player has not generated any major trade buzz as teams circle around Jaylen Brown and Derrick White. Advertisement NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported Saturday that Sam Hauser is not a player who has been mentioned in trade talks. 'I haven't heard any credible buzz about Sam Hauser's inclusion in serious trade conversations. The interest would surely be there given Hauser's perimeter prowess and the value contract he holds over the next four years, but the Celtics have largely achieved their financial goals by moving Holiday and Porziņģis,' Fischer reported. 'They don't have to trade Hauser. It is also presumed that the Celtics still hope to compete for a playoff spot next season even while Jayson Tatum recovers from a torn Achilles and Hauser figures to be an integral contributor to such aims.' The Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis trades helped Boston move under the second apron. It is not known how the Celtics' offseason strategy will shift now that they have accomplished that goal. In any event, this latest report suggests that Hauser might stay put. The 27-year-old has been a key rotation piece over the past few years. Known for his shooting stroke and perimeter play, Hauser has averaged more than 20 minutes per game in each of the past two seasons. Advertisement Across 71 contests last season, the Green Bay native averaged 8.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.9 assists while shooting over 41 percent from distance. His size and positional versatility are traits that fit the Celtics' identity during their NBA Finals run and still could serve as the blueprint for what Brad Stevens and the rest of the front office attempts to build. With Jayson Tatum likely out for the entirety of next season due to an Achilles injury, Hauser could be a prime candidate to receive more minutes and help get Boston back to the NBA Playoffs. As it stands, it does not seem as though he will be leaving the Celtics this offseason. Related: NBA rumors: Could Bulls, Clippers be Celtics options for Anfernee Simons trade?
