NRL coach is busted on video losing his mind at his players for daring to take a shower
Gold Coast coach Des Hasler has been caught giving his players an epic spray in the sheds at Leichhardt Oval following his side's narrow loss to the Tigers. Cameras captured Hasler's explosive tirade following the match as he was seen ordering some of them to get out of the showers. Players looked on in shock as a clearly furious Hasler unleashed at some of his stars, although it is not known what he was saying. The coach's almighty spray came after a shocking day for the Titans, who were leading 20-16 with four minutes left in the match. However, a late try to Jeral Skelton evened things up before Adam Doueihi slotted a field goal from 25 metres out to win it with 15 seconds left. The result piles more pressure on Hasler, with Gold Coast now officially out of finals contention and alone in last place on the NRL ladder. Speaking post-game to media, Hasler was particularly unhappy with the side's second half. 'We go out and bumble, we fumble, we throw balls over the sideline and get carried over the sideline,' he said. 'We can't land on the bouncing ball. We miss tackles and complete nine from 15 [sets]. 'I'm really disappointed with that performance. It was pretty dumb.' Meanwhile, finals action also looks unlikely for the Tigers, despite the victory. They would need to go undefeated though the final seven rounds to have any hope of snapping a 14-year drought. But another spoon now at least appears out the window, up in 12th spot and four points clear of the Titans, with a bye still in hand. 'It's more frustrations around where we think we could have been, where we could be, and where we are,' Benji Marshall said. 'It was important to get the two points today. I don't want to say about how we got it, but we got it. 'If I'm being honest I thought today was our worst game. We didn't play anywhere near our standard of doing things. 'In the first half we were looking for things that weren't there, and it looked like our heads weren't on the job.' The Tigers made 14 errors and the Titans 12, while the hosts were also guilty of having their attack appear disjointed at times. The bright spot for the Tigers was mid-season pick-up Taylan May, who scored one try and set up the team's other two in his first NRL game in 14 months.

Field (goal) of dreams as Doueihi proves a late hero
Adam Doueihi has kicked Wests Tigers out of the race for a fourth straight NRL wooden spoon, nailing a 30-metre field goal to clinch a 21-20 win over Gold Coast. Trailing the Titans by four points with four minutes left, the Tigers looked at risk of slipping back into the wooden-spoon race on Sunday afternoon at Leichhardt. But Taylan May sent Jeral Skelton over for a crucial try, before Doueihi missed the conversion attempt from the sideline to take the lead. It mattered little though, as a Reagan Campbell-Gillard crusher tackle put the Tigers back on the attack. And while the joint-venture made a mess of the final two plays, Doueihi was able to position himself 30 metres out and right in front to nail the last-minute shot. Making matters worse for Gold Coast was a knee injury suffered by Tino Fa'asuamaleaui early in the match, leaving him unable to return. The result piles more pressure on Titans coach Des Hasler, with Gold Coast now officially out of finals contention and alone in 17th place on the NRL ladder. Doueihi kicks the match-winner! 🤩 — NRL (@NRL) July 20, 2025 For the Tigers, the finals also look unlikely. They would need to go undefeated though the final seven rounds to have any hope of snapping a 14-year drought. But a fourth straight wooden spoon now at least appears equally unlikely. Sunday's win kicked the joint-venture into 12th spot and four points clear of the Titans, with a bye still in hand. This match was anything but pretty, with the Tigers' attack at times appearing disjointed and the two sides combining for no less than 26 errors. But there was a bright spot for the Tigers, with Taylan May scoring one try in his first NRL game in 14 months and setting up the other two. Playing his first match since domestic-violence charges against him were dropped, May had the Tigers' first when his brother Terrell gave him space on the left. He then put the Tigers up 12-4 when he combined with Jarome Luai to send Staines across, before the Titans mounted a late first-half comeback. Phil Sami and Jaylan De Groot both crossed in quick succession, with the second coming off the back of a nice kick from Jayden Campbell. As good as the Titans were in that period, they were at times their own worst enemies. Nowhere was that more evident than in the second half with scores locked at 14-14, when they failed to pack a scrum in time and gifted the Tigers a penalty goal. An AJ Brimson try with 13 minutes to play looked set to save Gold Coast, and bring them level with five other clubs on 16 points at the bottom of the ladder. But instead the Tigers' late heroics left the Gold Coast alone in 17th, two points behind the likes of Parramatta and South Sydney with seven rounds left.

Billy Slater concedes second Origin winner is unlikely to return for Maroons in 2026
Queensland coach Billy Slater admits he might need a new assistant coach for their State of Origin defence in 2026, with Josh Hannay strongly tipped to land an NRL head coaching role. With veteran prop Josh Papalii playing his 24th and final Origin game after coming out of rep retirement in the series-deciding Game 3 victory, Slater concedes it will be a new-look Queensland setup next year. Slater says he would be 'surprised' if Hannay was not in charge of an NRL club in 2026, with a number of current coaches in the firing line after poor seasons. Hannay has been strongly linked to the role at the Titans, amid reports veteran coach Des Hasler is on borrowed time on the Gold Coast. Hasler has a clause in his contract meaning the Titans can sack him now they are mathematically out of finals contention this season, following last weekend's loss to Brisbane. The veteran coach wants to see out the final year of his contract in 2026 but there's a growing sense that Hasler won't be there next year and Hannay has emerged as a frontrunner for the job. Newcastle could also be on the lookout for a new coach, amid reports the club is set to part ways with Adam O'Brien at the end of the season after an underwhelming campaign for the Knights. And Todd Payten's coaching position is also under threat at the Cowboys, who have dropped out of the top-eight after five losses in their last six games to sit in 12th spot on the ladder. North Queensland made the second week of the finals in 2024 but have struggled for consistency under Payten since he took over in 2021. Hannay - who is currently working under Craig Fitzgibbon at Cronulla - previous worked as an assistant at the Cowboys and played 150 games for the club, and would be a popular choice to succeed Payten if North Queensland decided to change coaches. RELATED: Roosters playmaker tipped to exit after being overlooked for veteran Fury over Panthers star's ban after Parra rival cops season-ending injury Knights offer contracts to two State of Origin players amid Ponga blow But with uncertainty around the future of at least three NRL head coaches, and Hannay emerging as one of the leading candidates to succeed them, Slater is convinced he will need to find a new assistant for Queensland in 2026. "I'd be surprised if he is involved in State of Origin next year, unfortunately for us," the Maroons coach told Nine's The Billy Slater Podcast. "He's been a real rock for me in terms of the last four years at State of Origin level, I have leant on him immensely. He really understands the game, he sees the game really well, he's got great philosophies. I'd be really surprised if he was involved in the Origin series next year, I was probably surprised that he was involved this year. "I think he's ready to be an NRL head coach, and I wish him all the best when that opportunity arises for him. I've got great respect for Josh, I've got great appreciation for what he's done for myself and this footy team over the last four years... even before that, he was involved before I was the head coach. He's definitely going to be a good NRL coach and I look forward to seeing which team he gets that opportunity with."
