Security guard at Adelanto middle school accused of child molestation
Investigators arrested an Adelanto middle school security guard Thursday on suspicion of child molestation, authorities said.
Deshawn Travian Mitchell, 21, of Adelanto, was taken into custody about 11:30 a.m. at the Sheriff's Adelanto Station, San Bernardino County booking jail records show. He was booked on suspicion of committing a lewd act with a child under 14 years old.
He worked as a substitute security guard at Columbia Middle School, officials said.
The arrest stemmed from an investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Specialized Investigations Division , Crimes Against Children Detail and the Sheriff's Victor Valley Station , according to the agency.
Sheriff's officials did not say whether the victim was a student at the school.
Bail for Mitchell was set at $250,000 pending an initial court appearance, scheduled Monday in the Victorville branch of San Bernardino County Superior Court.
"Investigators and the Adelanto Elementary School District worked cooperatively to ensure a thorough investigation into this matter was completed," the sheriff's department said in a written statement.
No further details were released.
