2025 Pittsburgh Football Predictions: Panthers Ranked 43rd in RJ Young's Ultimate 136

College Football 2025 Pittsburgh Football Predictions: Panthers Ranked 43rd in RJ Young's Ultimate 136 Published Aug. 10, 2025 8:57 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link This isn't your average college football ranking. My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list: Who do I think is good? Why do I think they're good? What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations? Here is a look at where Pitt lands in my Ultimate 136. Team ranking: 43 Last year's ranking: 91 Top player: RB Desmond Reid: One of 10 Power 4 players last season to total 1,500+ scrimmage yards and 10+ total touchdowns; one of three Power 4 players to rush for 900+ yards and record 500+ receiving yards. [Pitt's 2025 schedule] RJ's take: After beginning 7-0 and ending the season with six consecutive losses, the word for the season in Pittsburgh is "finish." The 2025 bones of this team look similar to its 2024 one with Eli Holstein back from injury at QB, Desmond Reid back at RB and four men on Pat Narduzzi's defense who accounted for eight tackles for loss or more. None of those are more fearsome than LB Kyle Louis, who has notched 17. ADVERTISEMENT The first half of Pitt's schedule is difficult with games against Louisville, at Florida State and at Syracuse before October 11. The Panthers then finish with games against Notre Dame, at Georgia Tech and against Miami. Pitt Win Total Odds: Over 6.5 (+112) Under 6.5 (-138) Have an issue with my rankings? Pitt football stars Kyle Louis and Desmond Reid have been named to The Sporting News 2025 Preseason All-America First Team. Kyle Louis, a redshirt junior linebacker, returns as a formidable force on defense, having previously earned First Team All-American honors in 2024. Desmond Reid, known for his versatility, has also been recognized for his all-purpose play, earning Preseason First Team All-ACC honors. Louis, who hails from New Jersey, was a standout player in the 2024 season, leading the team with 101 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and four interceptions, including a pick-six. Reid demonstrated his dynamic capabilities in 2024 by leading the team with 966 rushing yards and accumulating 579 receiving yards. He also excelled in punt returns, leading the team with 159 yards and averaging a nation-leading 154.9 all-purpose yards per game among returning players. Desmond Reid named to Doak Walker Award watch list

University of Pittsburgh senior running back Desmond Reid has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2025 Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation's most outstanding college running back by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum. Reid is among the elite backs recognized nationally after a dynamic 2024 season in which the Miami Gardens, Fla., native compiled 966 rushing yards, 579 receiving yards, 159 punt return yards, and scored touchdowns three different ways. The Doak Walker Award is named in honor of SMU legend and three-time All-American Doak Walker. Ten semifinalists will be named in November, followed by three finalists later that month. The winner will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 12. This year's watch list features standout performers from across the country, including 2024 Doak Walker semifinalist Makhi Hughes (Oregon), Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love, and Louisville's Isaac Brown. Reid's inclusion is another major preseason recognition for the senior running back, who has already been named to the All-ACC Team and several national award watch lists. Clemson leads preseason All-ACC picks. QB Cade Klubnik is picked as the player of the year

Preseason league favorite Clemson dominated the Atlantic Coast Conference's preseason all-conference picks, including quarterback Cade Klubnik as the preseason pick for player of the year. The league released its All-ACC picks Thursday after voting by media members attending last week's football media days in Charlotte, North Carolina. The ACC announced Wednesday that Clemson was the runaway choice to win the league ahead of Miami and SMU. Klubnick earned 146 of 183 votes for player of the year, with Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King second with nine votes and SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings next with five. The Tigers claimed 11 of the 27 spots on the preseason team. Klubnik headlined six picks on the offense, joining receivers Antonio Williams and Bryant Wesco Jr., offensive tackle Blake Miller, offensive guard Walker Parks and center Ryan Linthicum. Clemson had five on the defense: defensive end T.J. Parker, defensive tackle Peter Woods, linebackers Wade Woodaz and Sammy Brown, and cornerback Avieon Terrell. Pittsburgh claimed three spots, though versatile running back Desmond Reid was voted in for two positions as an all-purpose threat and as a specialist. Miami, SMU, Georgia Tech, Louisville and Duke were the only other teams with two selections, while Florida State, N.C. State and Syracuse each had one. ___ AP college football: and
