Manhunt launched after attempted murder of police officer in Scottish town
A manhunt is underway after an attempted murder of a police officer in Dumfries on Monday morning.
Officers were called to Herries Avenue in Dumfries around 12.10am on Monday, July 28 to assist a member of the public.
More than an hour later, at around 1.20am, a silver Subaru Forester car was deliberatelyd riven at a male officer who attended the scene.
He was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where he remains in a stable condition.
Police are now searching for the driver of the car, which was later found abandoned near Catherine Field Road.
The driver is described as a male, of slim to medium build with dark hair that was cut short at the sides.

He was wearing a grey top, grey trousers and trainers at the time of the incident.
Detective Inspector Scott Wilson said: 'Our thoughts are with the officer, his family and colleagues at this time. We will continue to offer them all the necessary support.
'This incident is being treated as attempted murder, and we will use all tools at our disposal to trace the person responsible.
'I am asking anyone who may have seen the Subaru driving around the area around that time on Monday and in the few days before the incident to get in touch.
'Similarly, anyone in the area at the time with dashcam footage should contact us.'
