District-level sports meet for persons with disabilities held
Madurai: A district-level athletic meet, titled Limitless 2025, for differently-abled people was organised at Dr MGR Stadium on Tuesday, in which nearly 350 participated.
Participants competed across seven disability categories, including visually impaired, amputees, wheelchair users, intellectually disabled, dwarfs, cerebral palsy, and hearing-impaired students.
They competed in an array of track and field events such as long jump, shot put, discus, and javelin throw. Track races included 50m, 100m, and 400m sprints. Seventy-eight gold, 78 silver, and 78 bronze medals were distributed among winners. All participants received a certificate of recognition.
"These young athletes remind us that determination defines ability," said Dr Sathish Devadoss, vice-chairman, Devadoss Hospitals.
Jerlin Anika, Arjuna awardee and Deaflympic badminton gold medallist, was the guest of honour.
The event was organised by the Madurai Ladies Circle No. 8 (MLC) in association with Devadoss Hospital.
