Noise barriers to come up at six flyovers in A'bad

Ahmedabad: Acting on complaints from city residents, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation plans to install noise barriers on six more flyovers in the city, including those at Shivranjani, Pallav and AEC junctions, to reduce noise pollution caused by vehicles. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Three years ago, the National Highway Authority of the central govt had installed noise barriers on the flyovers at SG Road. The AMC has already installed these barriers on the Income Tax junction flyover and Thakkarbapanagar bridge, completing the work for Rs 1.82 crore. Although a tender was issued for the installation of six new noise barriers, the corporation did not receive bids. So a fresh tender has been issued, sources said. Standing committee chairman Devang Dani said, "Complaints about noise pollution from societies near flyovers or railway overbridges are commonplace. Noise barriers have been installed on the Income Tax flyover and Thakkarbapanagar bridge. To reduce noise pollution in the city, plans are underway to install noise barriers on six flyovers/railway overbridges." At present, there are 92 bridges in the city, with work on 13 bridges in progress. By 2024-25, the corporation plans to complete work on the Ghodasar split flyover, Pallav Junction flyover, Paldi Jalaram railway underpass, Chandkheda railway underpass, IOC Chandkheda underpass, D-Cabin railway underpass, Makarba railway underpass and Chenpur underpass. Sindhu Bhavan multilevel parking: AMC opts for sale deed to bypass 18% GST

Ahmedabad: The civic body's policy making body has opted to sell 16 offices and 29 shops in the Sindhu Bhavan Multilevel Parking Complex through sale deeds, bypassing the 18% GST applicable on 99-year lease deeds. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The standing committee approved the proposal on Thursday. An official announcement is expected shortly. Previously, the AMC leased out properties for 99 years, but the GST had prompted a change. In July 2023, AMC attempted to sell 68 shops floor-wise in the same complex, offering 12,868.62 sq m of office-type space on the ground, first and fifth floors at a base price of Rs 197 crore. The auction failed to attract buyers for the first and fifth floors. Only one bidder emerged for the 4,158.33 sq m ground floor, bidding Rs 80 crore, though payment remains pending. AMC has now extended the deadline and will now auction the remaining units via sale deed. Standing committee chairman Devang Dani confirmed, "If the property is sold through a 99-year lease deed, GST is applicable. So now, the shops/offices will be sold via sale deed."

Ahmedabad civic body plans Sindoor Van in Jagatpur

1 2 3 Ahmedabad: As tribute to the recent Operation Sindoor , the civic body has announced plans to develop 'Sindoor Van' in Jagatpur, where 551 sindoor (Bixa orellana) trees will be planted and nurtured. Sindoor Van, part of an oxygen park project, will come up on a 5,000 sq m plot near the Jagatpur Bridge in Chandlodia ward under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. A designated organisation will maintain the plantation for five years. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) standing committee chairman Devang Dani said, "An oxygen park will be developed in the final plot number 43/1 of TP Scheme number 35 in Chandlodia ward of Ghatlodia Assembly under the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. A total of 12,000 trees will be planted here by an organisation under a PPP model. This park will be named Sindoor Van, where 551 sindoor trees will be nurtured. "The remaining trees in this Sindoor Van will be grown using the Miyawaki method. The park's maintenance too will be carried out for five years under the public-private partnership. AMC will not incur any expenses for this entire project. Monsoon nightmare: 1k cr spent, but city still deep in waterlogging woes

Ahmedabad: Monsoon is at the door, but the people of Ahmedabad are dreading its onset. While rains may offer much-needed respite from the sweltering heat, they also bring back waterlogging woes. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) monsoon mechanisms, including interlinking of lakes, percolation wells, new stormwater lines, and pumping stations, failed to be effective against a few hours of rain. The unseasonal rain on May 7 affected 38 locations, while 24.3mm of rain recorded during Thursday's early hours left over 100 locations in eastern Ahmedabad waterlogged. In two years, AMC has spent more than Rs 1,000 crore to address waterlogging. However, a key plan — the project to complete the main trunk line flanking both sides of the SP Ring Road before monsoon — remains 90% unfinished. Thirty-six projects worth Rs 841.45 crore have been approved for pre-monsoon activities in 2024-25, with 29 projects worth Rs 644.34 crore in progress and six worth Rs 42.11 crore awaiting the final push. A tender has been floated for a Rs 155 crore project. All these are unlikely to be completed before monsoon sets in, inundating streets and societies. Under the pre-monsoon action plan, 4,328 new catch pits have been constructed, bringing the total to 67,851, with the first round of cleaning completed and the second round underway. A Rs 75 lakh contract has been approved for pumping rainwater from 10 underpasses, and sensors with boom barriers have been installed to automatically close underpass gates. AMC standing committee chairman Devang Dani stated that unseasonal rain caused waterlogging, with plastic-covered catch pits identified as a reason in the eastern part. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Removal of plastic covers has been ordered. Work on the main trunk line parallel to SP Ring Road, initially set for completion by June 10, 2025, may extend by a month. Once operational, the 22km lines in the eastern and western parts are expected to reduce waterlogging. The Rs 1,200 crore Kharicut Canal Development Project also restricts water release, and its completion will further alleviate waterlogging, officials said. On Aug 25-27 last year, the city received an average of 10 inches of rain, causing waterlogging in over 300 locations, with most cleared within an hour. However, 157 spots remained waterlogged for over an hour, and 10 spots for one to four days. At the time, 32 new waterlogging spots were identified, increasing the number from 125 to 157.

RMC plants to be banned in residential areas of Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD : The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to ban ready-mix concrete (RMC) plants from residential areas within two months to combat air pollution, standing committee chairman Devang Dani said on Thursday. " RMC plants in residential areas are contributing to air pollution. We are formulating a new policy, and orders for their relocation will be issued in the next two months," Dani said during the standing committee meeting on Thursday. This development follows Auda's first standard operating procedure (SOP) for RMC plants, announced on April 9. The new regulations establish clear guidelines for both on-site and off-site plants, which includes a minimum plot area of 3,500 sq m, licence fee of Rs 50,000, security deposit of Rs 5 lakh, a mandatory no-objection certificate from GPCB and annual licence renewal. Plants will only be permitted in industrial, general agriculture, prime agriculture and logistics zones. For project sites, approval will be limited to the construction duration. RMC plants without licences will be sealed and attract a penalty of Rs 75,000. The upcoming AMC policy will determine the fate of RMC plants on project sites within residential areas.
