Mysuru: Former minister and Chamundeshwari MLA GT Devegowda on Wednesday directed officials to expedite the completion of the Melapura drinking water project to provide drinking water to peripheral layouts such as Rammanahalli, Vasantha Nagar, and others on the city outskirts. He also instructed the preparation of a new detailed project report (DPR) to ensure water supply to neglected layouts. Currently, water is being supplied from the Kabini River to layouts like Srirampura and RT Nagar. Officials requested the release of Rs150 crore for an additional 60 MLD water supply project. Devegowda assured that he would discuss the matter with the DC and bring it to the attention of the district in-charge minister to ensure immediate fund release. Ongoing works under the Hale Unduwadi project and requests for space allocation for water projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) were also discussed. Correspondence regarding these are in progress. Under JJM, a tank near Devegowda Circle will be constructed to supply water to 32 areas.

Important to provide value-based edu: MLA Devegowda
Mysuru: Chamundeshwari MLA GT Devegowda on Friday emphasised the importance of value-based education while speaking at the taluk-level school reopening ceremony held in Naganahalli village, Mysuru taluk. "Education should not just produce intelligence but also character," he said, urging schools to integrate yoga, meditation, academics, and extracurriculars into students' daily routines. He called for mutual respect among headmasters and teachers, encouraging collaboration without ego. Devegowda stressed that teachers should instil moral and human values, and parents must accompany children on the first day of school to understand their role in a child's education. "Parents are gods, and teachers are the first gurus," he noted, urging educators to engage with parents if children are absent or not admitted. Highlighting past struggles of teachers who cycled to remote schools without basic amenities, he said current govt support—including buses, better pay, and infrastructure—demands renewed commitment from educators. Former PM Devegowda hails India's
New Delhi [India], May 9 (ANI): Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) founder HD Devegowda has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, appreciating his leadership and government action amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan as both sides indulge in continuous retaliations, saying that the country's military response to the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack has been 'mature'. 'I write to you with a deep sense of appreciation, following India's mature and restrained military response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack on May 7, 2025. I know it is lonely at the top there, and I also know that without a spiritual sense, deep reflection, and continuous prayer it is not easy to find balance and equanimity of judgment. You have demonstrated that you have it all in good measure in the last few days,' the letter read. Devegowda further praised the Prime Minister for halting his scheduled international trips to remain available for emergencies and returning to India by cutting short his visit to Saudi Arabia to monitor the situation. 'I have been watching the determined steps that you have taken from day one, when you cut short your visit to Saudi Arabia and rushed back to monitor the developing situation in India, conduct strategy meetings, mobilise international support and inspire our armed forces. You also later cancelled your tour of Europe to be available at home for all emergencies,' the former PM said. Calling PM Modi's leadership 'exemplary', Devegowda said that the past couple of weeks have been demanding and stressful as India wages a war of 'Dharma' against the 'Adharma' of terrorism. 'I pray that God be with you, and with our great nation as we wage this war of dharma against the adharma of terrorism. India is a peace-loving nation and has always spread positive light in the world, but if someone sees it as our weakness, then, they now know, what we are capable of,' the letter read. comes as India and Pakistan have been at loggerheads against each other after terrorist camps were destroyed at nine locations in the neigbouring country, under Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the ghastly Pahalgam terrorist attack.
