(AP) — Ty Horn threw eight shutout innings, Devin Nunez hit a two-run home run and eighth-seeded Nebraska defeated regular season co-champion UCLA 5-0 on Sunday to win the Big Ten Baseball Tournament. The Cornhuskers (32-27) have won back-to-back conference tournaments for their only championships since joining the Big Ten in 2011. Advertisement Dylan Carey's RBI-double in the second inning opened the scoring. Still in the second, Case Sanderson scored on a passed ball and Carey scored on a single by Rhett Stokes. Nunez's two-run home in the third made it 5-0 and Horn (3-4) continued to shut down the second-seeded Bruins. His toughest inning was the sixth, when a double by Mulivai Levu gave UCLA runners on second and third with one out. Horn responded by striking out the next two batters to end the threat. Horn went eight innings, allowing three hits with six strikeouts, three walks and one hit batter. Casey Daiss pitched the ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out two. UCLA starter Landon Stump (6-1) took the loss. He was charged with three runs in 1 1/3 innings. Advertisement UCLA (42-16) tied for first place with Oregon in the teams' first season in the Big Ten. Fellow newcomers USC and Washington finished fourth and fifth, respectively, but it was Nebraska that came from the eighth seed to win the tournament. Nebraska got Purdue down to their final out in the ninth with a runner on base. But Purdue pulled it out in the end with the two-run home run to win 5-4 and even the series. The Huskers scored swiftly in the first inning, earning a run off their fourth at-bat. The Boilermakers tied the game in the third following a sacrificial fly before taking the lead in the fourth with a solo home run. Nebraska served up its own sacrificial fly in the fifth to bring the equalizer, then struck a two-run home run in the seventh to go up 4-2. Purdue cut the lead to one in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly before its walk-off home run in the ninth. Devin Nunez delivered the Huskers' two-run homer, his only hit of the game, to lead the team in RBIs. Gabe Swansen and Riley Silva each pitched in an RBI in the loss. Dylan Carey led Nebraska in hits on the day, going 3-for-4. Robby Bolin finished 2-for-4, earning a double. Swansen, Cayden Brumbaugh, Case Sanderson and Hogan Helligso all earned one hit. Ty Horn started at the mound and allowed two runs off five hits across 5.0 innings. Will Walsh pitched 1.1 innings in relief, firing two strikeouts and surrendering a run, a hit and two walks. Casey Daiss then recorded two punchouts and allowed a run on two hits in 2.0 innings of play. Jalen Worthley (2-1) suffered the loss after giving up a run on one hit in the ninth. Nebraska baseball bounces back with 7-3 upset win over No. 5 Oregon State in series opener The Huskers (11-14) returned home Friday night following a long road trip to California for a three-game series against No. 5 Oregon State (19-5). With three home runs and a strong defensive front, Nebraska took game one with a 7-3 upset win. The Huskers scored all seven runs before the Beavers got on the board in the sixth. Though Oregon State closed the gap to 7-3, Nebraska shut down any comeback attempts to secure the victory and its first top five victory since upsetting No. 1 Arkansas in the Fayetteville Regional in 2021. The Huskers finished with 11 hits for seven RBIs and three home runs while holding the Beavers to five hits for three RBIs and one home run. Dylan Carey and Devin Nunez co-led at the plate, both going 2-for-4 on the night. Carey drove in two RBIs while also sending a hit over the wall. Tyler Stone and Cael Frost delivered Nebraska's other two home runs, each serving up two-run shots. Rhett Stokes brought in an RBI off his lone single in the fourth. Will Walsh (3-4) pitched 6.0 innings for Nebraska, firing two strikeouts while allowing three runs off five hits.
