Devka Secondary School in Rajula Taluka of Gujarat's Amreli district is setting a new benchmark in education. Here, learning goes beyond textbooks — students get real-world experience in handicrafts and agriculture. Through a program called 'Cultivating Livelihood Values," students are being equipped with skills for a bright future.
The school campus blends natural beauty with modern facilities. Its state-of-the-art building houses a greenhouse where pesticide-free farming is practised.

The school also has a lab dedicated to horticulture and trains students in preparing organic fertilizers. This unique model fosters a deep understanding of agriculture among the students.
To build skills in electronics, the school has a special lab where students learn to repair fans, lights, and other devices, along with wiring techniques including series and parallel circuits.
Students with electronic hardware skills gain practical knowledge of technical maintenance. Teacher Anil Parmar says, 'Alongside the traditional curriculum, students should gain clear vocational skills to become self-reliant in the future."
Vocational training is included from grades 9 to 12. For grades 9 and 11, six lectures per week are held, and for grades 10 and 12, three lectures weekly. Students can choose training in agriculture or electronic hardware based on their interests. The school has equipped labs and appointed trained instructors to provide quality vocational education.
Additionally, students get monthly internship opportunities with professional organisations or industries to gain hands-on experience. They receive stipends up to Rs 1,500, encouraging them to engage actively.
The school is equipped with smart boards, computers, science labs, fire safety measures, CCTV coverage, solar panels for renewable energy, and drip irrigation for trees — all making it a fully modern institution.
Students here are not just excelling academically but also in competitive fields. Regular assessments are conducted, and students visit industrial units and various professional establishments to enhance their business awareness.
The initiatives at Devka Secondary School lay a strong foundation for holistic student development and contribute toward building a prosperous society. This approach can inspire all educational institutions across Gujarat.
