Impressive spring portal stat from the Michigan State football coaching staff
Impressive spring portal stat from the Michigan State football coaching staff Michigan State's coaching staff does an unbelievable job on visits Michigan State football landed the commitment from Texas Tech defensive back Devynn Cromwell on Tuesday afternoon, thus most likely marking the end of the Spartans roster additions via the spring transfer portal. With the Spartans concluding their moves from the spring portal, MSU added seven new scholarship bodies to the mix, bolstering the depth at several different positions on the roster. It is also worth noting that the Spartans landed these seven prospects in a very impressive manner. Michigan State only hosted eight transfer prospects all spring long, meaning they closed out and got commitments from seven of those eight prospects, hitting at a 87.5% rate. The lone prospect to not commit to Michigan State was Austin Peay defensive back transfer Gavin Edwards, who chose to go to Maryland. It was an impressive display from the Spartans coaching staff, who identified positional needs, and landed the prospects that they sought out early in the process. With a big month of visits upcoming in June, with the Spartans looking to lock down their 2026 recruiting class, this is a great trend for the Spartans coaching staff to be starting. Tracking the spring transfer portal additions for Michigan State football
Tracking the spring transfer portal additions for Michigan State football Michigan State has added seven new transfers into the mix Michigan State football head coach Jonathan Smith has made it a priority to revamp the roster in East Lansing, and use the transfer portal to his advantage to make sure that 2025 goes much better than 2024. After adding 16 players via the winter portal, Smith used the spring portal to add additional depth to the program, after seeing what the roster had during spring practice. With the addition of Devynn Cromwell on Tuesday afternoon, it appears likely that the Spartans are done adding to the roster, and are set to head into 2025 full steam ahead with the roster that has been assembled. With Cromwell being the final addition, the Spartans will end the Spring portal cycle with seven new additions to the roster, bringing the grand total to 23 this offseason, giving the Spartans a much needed overhaul. Check out who will be joining the Michigan State roster this summer via the spring portal: DE Isaac Smith (Texas Tech) Michigan State added veteran edge rusher Isaac Smith to come in and hopefully be the starting defensive end. S Tracy Revels (Bowling Green) After losing Dillon Tatum to the portal, MSU needed to bolster their secondary depth, and they turned to Bowling Green transfer Tracy Revels. TE Kai Rios (Indiana State) Indiana State transfer tight end Kai Rios was brought in with multiple years of eligibility left to be a depth piece that can be a building block. DE Cam Williams (Georgia State) With the need to find something in the pass rushing department, MSU brought in Cam Williams from Georgia State alongside Smith to try and bolster the defensive line. CB Dontavius Nash (East Carolina) While it was not the biggest position of need, Dontavius Nash was brought in as a utility player in the defensive backfield, being able to play all four defensive back positions. CB Anthony Pinnace (UTSA) Michigan State attempted to get Anthony Pinnace back in the winter out of the JUCO ranks. After spending a spring in San Antonio, MSU was able to bring in the defensive back prospect after spring ball. S Devynn Cromwell (Texas Tech) To round out the spring additions, MSU tapped into Texas Tech once again for another prospect, this time getting a defensive back that can play both safety positions, while also being a quality special teamer. Michigan State football lands transfer commitment from former Texas Tech safety
Michigan State football lands transfer commitment from former Texas Tech safety Michigan State adds another piece to their revamped secondary. Michigan State football continues to add to its revamped secondary, adding another key piece on Tuesday. The Spartans landed the commitment of Devynn Cromwell, a former Texas Tech safety. Cromwell, who brings a lot of experience along with him to Michigan State, had an interesting path in football before making it to East Lansing with his final year of eligibility. Cromwell, who is from Toronto, Ontario, started his collegiate football career at the University of Guelph in Canada's U Sports league. He then transferred to Texas Tech last year, where he had a productive season with the Red Raiders before going down with an injury. Cromwell made two starts with Texas Tech, recording 20 tackles. According to Pro Football Focus, Cromwell only gave up three catches on eight total targets for a total of 14 yards. Not bad. Cromwell was originally slated to be done with college football after last season, but was granted a waiver for one more year due to his years playing in Canada.
