Kim Kardashian Faces Backlash For Endorsing Controversial Stem Cell Therapy
Last Updated: Kim Kardashian faces backlash for sharing her experience with expensive stem cell treatment in Mexico for pain. Fans criticized her for endorsing an option out of reach for most. Kim Kardashian is facing criticism online after sharing details of her experience with a high-cost stem cell treatment in Mexico, which she credited for relieving years of severe shoulder and back pain. While the reality star described the procedure as life-changing, her post sparked backlash from followers who accused her of endorsing an option out of reach for most people. The 44-year-old reality star shared on Instagram that she went to Mexico with her sister Khloe Kardashian for a Muse stem cell treatment by Dr. Adeel Khan at Eterna, a clinic that focuses on regenerative medicine. Kim revealed that her shoulder injury dated back two years, when she tore it lifting weights. The damage left her with what she described as 'debilitating" pain, and despite trying numerous treatments in the United States, she found no relief. Kardashian, known recently for her SKIMS face wrap, shared photos from inside the sleek, minimalist clinic, showing herself in black pajamas and wearing dark protective goggles while undergoing the procedure. 'I'm so excited to share my stem cell journey," Kardashian wrote on Instagram. She said she was treated at Eterna Health in Mexico by Dr. Adeel Khan using Dezawa Muse cell. 'I regained full range of motion, and my shoulder has felt completely normal ever since," she stated. Encouraged by those results, Kardashian returned to Dr. Khan to address chronic back pain. 'The Muse stem cell treatment was a game-changer once again," she said. 'I felt relief instantly, and the unbearable pain was finally gone. If you're dealing with back pain, I can't recommend this enough, it's transformed my life when I thought my body was breaking down." She thanked the doctor and his team for giving her hope 'when I thought I had none left." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kim Kardashian (@kimkardashian) Expensive and unavailable in the US Stem cell therapy of this kind is not currently available in the United States, prompting Kardashian to travel abroad for treatment. According to Global Stem Cell Therapy, a shoulder procedure can cost between $4,000 and $15,000. In the U.S., such treatments are often considered controversial due to ethical and political debates surrounding the use of embryonic stem cells. However, not all procedures involve embryonic sources. As DVC Stem notes, stem cells can also be derived from the umbilical cord, breast milk, or bone marrow, although these are not pluripotent. Kardashian's followers were quick to point out the exclusivity of the procedure. Comments on her post included, 'Hey Kim, we're poor," and 'We're not all billionaires, unfortunately." Another wrote, 'She tells the story like we all can relate… oh, I'll just fly to Mexico to have some special procedure done by some special doctor." Some accused her of flaunting privilege, while others suggested she was promoting a treatment that lacked accessibility for the general public. Kardashian urges caution In her post, Kardashian acknowledged that stem cell therapy 'isn't right or accessible for everyone" and advised people to 'do their homework" and consult medical professionals. She added that she hopes science will progress so more patients can benefit from similar treatments in the future. The reality star has returned to her regular fitness routine, continuing intense workouts with trainer Melissa Alcantara. In August 2023, she tore her shoulder and a tendon, yet was back in the gym within weeks. Her training habits have previously drawn attention, including in 2022 when she lost 16 pounds in three weeks to wear Marilyn Monroe's dress to the Met Gala. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
