From Dh1,000-Dh7,000: UAE residents get Udhiya options for Eid Al Adha on grocery apps

This year, grocery shopping apps are bringing back the Udhiya option to make it easier for Muslims to offer a sacrificial animal in the lead up to Eid Al Adha. Ranging from Dh1,000 to Dh7,000, residents can choose to pre-order one of several animals, either local or imported, in various cuts. Careem is partnering with its local meat supplier, Dhabayeh Al Emarat, for the second year in a row to offer sheep of various sizes. A 12 to 24-month-old local goat weighing between 14 and 17 kgs will cost around Dh1,723, while a 7 to 9-month-old Naimi sheep weighing between 16 and 20 kgs will cost Dh2,143. From May 15 until June 4, customers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi can pre-order their Udhiya meat through Careem Groceries, choosing to either receive it at home or donate it to the UAE Food Bank. Eid Al Adha sees Muslims around the world sacrifice an animal to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah's command. This is known as Udhiya or Qurbani. The meat from the sacrificed animal is typically distributed among family, friends, and those in need. Last year, this option was offered for the first time, becoming an instant hit among residents for its ease and convenience. Chase Lario, VP of Careem Groceries explained that they were encouraged by the response. 'Our aim is to simplify every part of our customers' lives, including their religious and cultural traditions,' he said. 'Customers loved the ease and convenience of ordering their Udhiya through Careem last year, and we're excited to bring it back to support this meaningful practice while also enabling charitable giving.' Noon Minutes is offering a full cow, weighing 120-150 kgs, as well as a camel of equal weight for Dh7,000. In addition to this, residents can also pick between several animals, including a Somali goat, priced at Dh1,000, a Kashmiri sheep, priced at Dh1,300, and a local Nuaimi sheep for Dh1,800. They have partnered with Zabehaty (Oasis Livestock) for the campaign. Options On Careem, residents have the option of pre-selecting the day for the sacrifice within the first four days of Eid, with delivery scheduled for the same day. Pre-orders are available until two days before Eid. The app also allows customers who prefer to donate their Udhiya to the UAE Food Bank, which has distributed more than 70 million meals since its establishment, to do so directly in the app by selecting the UAE Food Bank option. This helps ensure that meat reaches families in need across the UAE. On Noon, users have the option of selecting two time slots on Day 1 of Eid and can choose between getting the animal in four cuts or as the whole carcass. This year, Eid Al Adha is expected to fall on Saturday, June 7 (Dhul Hijjah 10). In this case, UAE residents will get a 5-day break from Friday, June 6, to Tuesday, June 10, including the weekend. These dates may be revised if needed, depending on Moon sightings.
