Oman announces new agricultural projects for Dhahirah
Ibri – Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning (MHUP) has announced four new investment opportunities for usufruct land in Dhahirah governorate, covering a total of 16 hectares for plant and animal projects. The opportunities include citrus cultivation on 4 hectares and fig cultivation on another 4 hectares in the Al Buwairda area of Yanqul, livestock breeding and seasonal fodder cultivation on 4 hectares in the Qarn Kabsh area of Ibri, and palm cultivation with date production on 4 hectares in the Al Ghuwail area of Ibri. According to the ministry, the projects aim to strengthen the agricultural sector and attract investors to ventures that support Oman Vision 2040's economic diversification goals. Sites were selected based on soil quality, water availability, and market demand to ensure long-term viability. Details of the opportunities and usufruct terms are available on the Tatweer platform, with applications open to local and foreign investors. Preference will be given to proposals that adopt modern irrigation systems, sustainable farming practices, and value-added production to improve competitiveness in local and export markets. The Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources, in cooperation with MHUP and the private sector, is working to allocate land and develop investment plans to enhance food security and sustainable agricultural growth. Oman: Ibri sees tourism boom as GCC travellers transit to Dhofar
Ibri – The wilayat of Ibri in Dhahirah governorate is experiencing a noticeable rise in tourist and commercial activity during the months of July and August, driven largely by its strategic location as a transit point for travellers from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries heading to Dhofar by road. This seasonal movement has led to a sharp increase in demand for accommodation, with many hotels and rest houses in Ibri reporting occupancy rates between 85% and 100%, according to Ali bin Khamis al Sudairy, Assistant Director of the Heritage and Tourism Department in Dhahirah. 'The governorate is witnessing significant hotel sector activity during the khareef season, which reflects growing interest from travellers using Ibri as a stopover en route to Dhofar,' said Sudairy. By the end of July 2025, the number of licensed hotels and accommodation facilities in Dhahirah had reached 55, up from 48 at the end of 2024—representing a 14.5% growth. The figure is expected to rise further by the end of the year, he added. Sudairy highlighted the strategic importance of the Rub al Khali border crossing, which links Oman to Saudi Arabia. He said the route has boosted land-based tourism and opened up investment opportunities along the corridor. 'New facilities such as fuel stations, express service centres, hotels and rest houses are contributing to the economic vitality of the governorate,' he said. Ibri's markets, malls, restaurants, cafés and other commercial establishments are also witnessing increased footfall during this period. Oman: Dhahirah, Al Wusta work on aligning urban strategies with Vision 2040
Haima – Authorities in Al Wusta and Dhahirah have launched a series of planning workshops aimed at advancing local development strategies and aligning these with Oman Vision 2040 and national development plans. In Haima, a workshop was held on Monday to assess progress of the urban strategy for Al Wusta. The session was organised jointly by the Governor's Office and Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning. It focused on monitoring implementation of strategic goals, project classification and data management. Participants agreed on a joint working mechanism between the Governor's Office and Directorate of Housing to coordinate development efforts. The workshop also addressed key challenges in data updates and reviewed possible solutions. Officials stressed the need for effective communication among relevant bodies to ensure integration across sectors. The workshop was attended by Sheikh Mohammed Ali al Ghafaili, Wali of Haima, and several local officials. In Ibri, a workshop was held on Sunday themed 'Defining the Strategic Goal of Dhahirah'. It brought together representatives of government bodies, the private sector and local community. Discussions centred on the governorate's strategic vision, drawing on its comparative advantages to guide future planning. The workshop was part of the first phase of the Dhahirah Strategy Development Project, which seeks to position the governorate as a gateway linking Oman with neighbouring countries. Oman: Dhahirah produces over 41t of honey in 2024 worth $1.5mln
Muscat – Dhahirah governorate produced more than 41 tonnes of honey in 2024, with the market value of this output exceeding RO615,000, according to data released by the Directorate General of Agricultural Fisheries and Water Resources in Dhahirah. Official statistics show that the number of registered beekeepers in the governorate reached 992 by the end of last year, collectively managing 23,680 beehives across various wilayats. Dhahirah is widely regarded to have a favourable environment for beekeeping and honey production, thanks to its diverse vegetation and abundant sidr and samar trees, which support the production of high-quality honey varieties. Local products include sidr honey, samar honey, honey in comb, bee pollen, and a range of medicinal bee-derived products. The directorate continues to invest in the development of the sector by offering training and awareness programmes for beekeepers. Oman: 90% of dam project in Wadi al Ajm in Ibri complete
Ibri – Work on the Wadi al Ajm groundwater recharge dam in the wilayat of Ibri has reached 90% completion, according to the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in Dhahirah governorate. Implemented in cooperation with the local community, the project is part of a national plan to strengthen water security, replenish aquifers and reduce flood risks in areas prone to heavy rains. The dam has been designed to store rainwater up to 28,000m3, its total capacity. The dam is 93m in length and 8m in height. Its spillway is 69m long and 4m high, ensuring controlled water flow and effective storage. Officials said the dam will support the sustainable management of groundwater resources, which are vital for agriculture and household use in the region. 'This project is an important step towards improving groundwater levels and ensuring reliable water supply for the wilayat,' a ministry official said. 'It also helps limit the effects of flash floods and supports the local environment.'
