Janhvi Kapoor likes a reel shading Madhuri Dixit's ‘vulgar' steps in Dhak Dhak; trolls joke ‘Algorithm ki galti hai'

Unintentional 'likes' on Instagram posts have been getting celebrities into trouble on social media this month. The first victim was cricketer Virat Kohli, whose official Instagram handle unknowingly 'liked' actor Avneet Kaur's picture shared by a fan page, on his wife Anushka Sharma's birthday. Virat later shared clarification that this action was not intentional. Interestingly, Avneet has been attending several matches and was rumoured to be dating Virat's fellow cricketer Shubman Gill. The next was Tamannaah Bhatia, who also blamed Instagram for unintentionally 'liking' a fan-made video of Deepika Padukone amid latter's controversy with Sandeep Reddy Vanga over his next film Spirit. Well, fans think the latest victim of the algorithm pandemic is Janhvi Kapoor, whose 'like' on a fan-made reel has left netizens in shock. A post shared by Janhvi Kapoor (@janhvikapoor) Unlike Virat Kohli and Tamannaah Bhatia, Janhvi Kapoor has not yet shared an official statement about 'liking' the video. But because of the content of this post, and Sridevi's rumoured rivalry with Madhuri, netizens are convinced that the actor will follow in Virat and Tamannaah's footsteps soon. What's so crazy about this clip? Well, it begins with a shot of Madhuri Dixit dancing to her iconic track Dhak Dhak Karne Laga from the 1992 film Beta. Over this clip are the words: 'Did vulgar step song and did nothing in the movie and won Filmfare Best Actress award.' Under this video is a clip of Janhvi's late mother Sridevi from the film Khuda Gawah, which released the same year. Here the caption reads, 'Did double role with landmark acting that carried whole movie on her shoulder still Filmfare ignored her for Best Actress.' When eagle eyed netizens pointed out that Janhvi Kapoor has 'liked' this Instagram reel, the internet obviously erupted. For instance, one social media user claimed, 'Guys!!! Algorithm ki galti hai dont blame JK 😡,' whereas another comment read, 'Loving this era of Kaleshi Bollywood. Acchi films nahi toh kalesh hi sahi 🤣.' A netizen shared, 'Another victim of the algorithm Instagram comes with a vaccine soon,' whereas another predicted, 'Wait for her to join Kohli - Tamanna gang of accidental like post.' Meanwhile, some trolled JK. One such angry Madhuri fan stated, 'WTF jahnvi How about her entire role in and her song Devara? What about that?,' whereas another harsh comment read, 'Irony of janhvi liking a reel shading doing thirst trap songs.' A post shared by Old Bollywood (@magical_cinema1990) But some fans did come out in Janhvi's defence, giving her the benefit of doubt. One such comment read, 'Ye bhi toh ho sakta hai, she saw her mom's pic, missed her and liked it? Like you get lost in the moment sometimes with all the focus on the picture of your deceased parent and nothing else? I think we can cut her some leash on this atleast.' As a member of the audience, who did you think was the star of 1992 — Madhuri Dixit in Beta or Sridevi in Khuda Gawah?

Janhvi Kapoor ‘Likes' Reel Claiming Madhuri Won Award For ‘Vulgar Step' While Sridevi ‘Ignored'

Last Updated: Janhvi Kapoor 'likes' viral reel shading Madhuri Dixit while praising Sridevi. Reddit reacts with jabs about 'algorithm likes' and accidental support. Janhvi Kapoor has found herself at the centre of an unexpected controversy online. The Mr. & Mrs. Mahi actress recently liked an Instagram reel that compared her late mother, legendary actress Sridevi, to Bollywood icon Madhuri Dixit and social media users have been quick to react. The viral reel splits the screen between two performances. On one side, Madhuri Dixit's iconic dance sequence Dhak Dhak Karne Laga from the film Beta plays, with overlaid text alleging she won the Filmfare Best Actress award for a 'vulgar step" and 'doing nothing." On the other side, Sridevi is shown in Khuda Gawah, portraying a dual role. The text claims she was 'ignored" for delivering a 'landmark performance" that carried the film. Janhvi's like on the post hasn't gone unnoticed. A screenshot showing her Instagram handle among those who liked the reel is now going viral, particularly on Reddit, where fans and critics alike are debating the implications. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Old Bollywood (@magical_cinema1990) Many online users are accusing her of indirectly shading Madhuri while trying to boost her late mother's legacy. 'Even she will come up with the algorithm story now," one Reddit user wrote, referring to the recent controversy involving Virat Kohli and Tamannaah Bhatia, who claimed their Instagram accounts 'accidentally liked" a reel featuring Avneet Kaur and Deepika Padukone, respectively. Another comment read, 'Wait for her to join the Kohli-Tamannaah gang of accidental like posts." A third added, 'Yes, Madhuri's Beta was a hit, and she performed brilliantly. But acting-wise too, she earned that award. It wasn't just a dance number." Others took a more sarcastic tone, with one user joking, 'Another victim of the algorithm pandemic… hoping Instagram comes with a vaccine soon." Janhvi Kapoor has not issued a statement addressing the viral post or whether the like was intentional. However, with screenshots continuing to circulate and Reddit threads filling up with speculation, it's clear the internet isn't buying the 'accidental like" excuse just yet. First Published:

'Dhak Dhak' or ‘Abbanee Tiyyani': The iconic Madhuri Dixit song that borrowed its beat from Ilaiyaraaja's Telugu hit

Madhuri Dixit 's iconic ' Dhak Dhak Karne Laga ' from the 1992 film 'Beta' has long been associated with her sensual screen presence and enduring star power. Draped in a yellow satin saree, her performance was a turning point in how Bollywood portrayed female desire and agency. Choreographed by Saroj Khan and sung by Anuradha Paudwal and Udit Narayan, Madhuri's magnetic performance captivated audiences and solidified her status as the 'Dhak Dhak' girl. With music by Anand Milind and lyrics by Sameer, the song became a cultural reference point, etched in the memory of every '90s Bollywood fan. The hidden origin: From Sridevi to Madhuri But what many fans didn't realize for years is that the tune of 'Dhak Dhak' was not original. The melody was lifted from Ilaiyaraaja 's 1990 Telugu song ' Abbanee Tiyyani ' from 'Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari,' which starred Sridevi and Chiranjeevi . Sung by SP Balasubrahmanyam and KS Chithra, the original version carried a romantic yet innocent charm and was picturised in an open garden-like setting, far removed from the overt sensuality of 'Beta.' While the Hindi version became a sex symbol-defining moment, it owed its musical soul to a completely different cultural and cinematic context. Music composers like Anand Milind, Jatin-Lalit, Nadeem-Shravan, and Anu Malik were competing fiercely, and many resorted to 'inspired' tracks—often lifted directly from South Indian or international music. 'Dhak Dhak' was one such case where commercial pressure led to a borrowed melody finding mass appeal. Composer's regret, audience's amnesia Years later, Anand Milind admitted in an interview with The Indian Express that they were 'forced' by producers to use specific tunes and that plagiarism was often beyond their control. 'Today, I regret what we did,' said Anand. Despite the regrets, the song's popularity has endured—its origin story buried under decades of admiration and nostalgia.
