MLC provides first aid to students who fall ill during I-Day parade
Shivamogga: During the Independence Day parade at Nehru Stadium in Shivamogga, three participating children suddenly fell ill and collapsed. Fortunately, MLC and BJP functionary Dr Dhananjaya Sarji, who was present at the event, immediately acted.
He took one of the children, a girl, to a nearby govt ambulance and provided her with first aid.
Dr Dhananjaya Sarji said that the girl was struggling to breathe and was anxious due to the stress and pressure of the event. After checking her heart rate and blood pressure, he managed to calm her and boost her confidence once she returned to a stable condition. He explained that such incidents are common during events like these, especially when people stand for long periods without adequate hydration, leading to dizziness and fainting.
He advised against immediately lifting the person or trying to sit them up when they collapse. Instead, one should lay them down in a flat position and elevate their legs to ensure smooth blood flow to the heart and brain.
Dr Dhananjaya Sarji emphasised that low blood sugar and blood pressure levels can cause such symptoms, and in such cases, it's essential to lay the person down with their legs elevated rather than trying to lift or sit them up.
Dr Sarji, a paediatrician and owner of hospitals, was elected to the legislative council last year.
