Fill lakes in Dharmapuri using Cauvery Surplus Water, says AIKS president
The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) national president Ashok Dhawale has demanded diversion of the Cauvery Surplus Water and filling the lakes in Dharmapuri district. Mr. Dhawale, who participated in the Dharmapuri district Tamil Nadu Farmers Association meeting on Union government policies and problems faced by the agricultural sector, urged the Centre to implement the recommendations of M.S. Swaminathan to safeguard farmers. Farmers are demanding minimum support price for all their produce. Without proper prices for their produce, farmers are facing many problems. As part of the privatisation of the electricity sector, the Union government brought in the installation of smart meters. The electricity bill will increase multi-fold because of this. The reason for privatisation is for the growth of big corporates, he claimed. Alleging that the Election Commission of India has become the B team of the BJP, Mr. Dhawale said that through the Election Commission, the BJP is including its supporters and deleting the names of non-supporters from the voter list. In the upcoming 2026 assembly elections, the BJP-AIADMK alliance should be defeated, he added.

Man loses 6L after clicking on fake RTO challan link
Nashik: A man recently lost around Rs6 lakh from his bank account after clicking on a fake RTO traffic challan message. According to the police, on July 22, the man received a text message with the subject RTO Traffic Challan. "He had purchased a new car just three months ago, so he was surprised and curious. The man then clicked the link in the message, which prompted him to enter his name and address. After providing those details, the link asked for his PAN and Aadhaar numbers. Realizing this was suspicious, he stopped, deleted the information he had entered, and erased the message," a police officer said. The next morning, however, his bank account was drained of around Rs6 lakh through a series of unauthorized transactions that occurred within a single hour. He immediately went to his bank to report the fraudulent activity and block the transactions, but the money was already gone. Elgar Parishad case accused under scrutiny after attending Veera Sathidar memorial
Nagpur: The Elgar Parishad case accused, who are out on bail, had thronged the Veera Sathidar memorial event at Vidarbha Hindi Sahitya Sammelan on May 13, top security sources told TOI. Though the event was organised as a memorial for the acclaimed filmmaker, security agency sources stated it turned into a platform for attacking the Maharashtra govt's efforts to table the proposed Maharashtra Public Security Bill to rein in frontal organisations of alleged urban Maoists. The speakers at the programme incited the audience to vehemently oppose the proposed law before it's tabled in the forthcoming monsoon assembly. "We held demonstrations against the proposed bill at 80 places in 36 districts of Maharashtra," said one of the speakers. Activists like Sudhir Dhawale and former Nagpur University professor Soma Sen, who are out on bail in the Elgar Parishad case, participated in the event, said a top source in the security apparatus that watched participants at the programme. Apart from Koregaon Bhima, Dhawale has other cases against him related to anti-govt activities, said a police official. Sen was present with her husband, Tushar Kant Bhattacharya, a former Maoist who was arrested with a cache of arms from Patna in 2007. Again, he was arrested by Gujarat ATS from Geetanjali Express for a case registered in the state, a decade ago. Senior police officers said they are now trying to zero in on Dhawale, Suvarna Salve, her sister Shrusti, and others who were present at the programme to record statements and initiate other action. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo According to a senior police officer, efforts would now be made to cancel the bail of the Elgar Parishad case accused who attended the programme, where tactics to corner govt were discussed. "We will soon take up the matter with the investigation agency and push for cancellation of their bail," said the senior officer. On Wednesday, Pushpa Sathidar, wife of the acclaimed late leftist filmmaker and actor Veera Sathidar, appeared before Sitabuldi police station on Wednesday to record her statement. She claimed she was an ordinary "anganwadi" worker and did not know about the participants. Police had invoked BNS Section 152 against Pushpa, another woman who rendered Faiz Ahmed Faiz's anti-establishment couplets "Hum Dekhenge" and another orator who had hailed the couplet as an inspiration to overthrow a tyrannical regime. Inspector Rakhi Gedam of Sitabuldi police station said Pushpa was sent back after recording her statement. "We may need to summon her again for questioning," said Gedam. Sources in security agencies present at the memorial programme said an activist from "Samata Kala Manch", Suvarna, rendered the Urdu couplet of Faiz, which was subsequently lauded in his speech by one Siddharth. The complainant, Dattatreya Shirke, stated he was not against Faiz's poem but opposed the comments against govt. Police are now intensifying their probe into the event's organisers and participants, suspecting a coordinated effort to undermine the state. As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on whether the Veera Sathidar memorial was exploited to further an anti-govt agenda instead of focusing on his legacy.

Nashik man loses Rs 6.5 lakh to cyber fraud promising commission
Nashik: A 70-year-old resident of Nashik city lost Rs 6.5 lakh after falling prey to a cyber criminal who lured him with the promise of a handsome commission for using his bank account to park Dhawale, the inspector of the cyber police station, "An FIR was registered against an unknown woman who called the victim in Sept 2024 and offered him a commission for allegedly helping her retrieve money that was kept by her deceased father in the bank. "Police said the woman, identifying herself as Roseline Edward, shared details of her father's bank account, where more than $2 million was parked. She requested the elderly man to provide his bank details so that the money could be transferred to his account, citing certain terms and conditions and regulations that prevented the money from being directly credited to her account. The woman also offered him a commission for the same."When the man accepted her offer, she took his details and then sent him bank details wrapped up in communication from an allegedly fake email ID that resembled that of the multinational bank and the Reserve Bank of India," the officer said. Citing the regulations related to the transfer of funds from foreign banks to any bank in India, and the mandatory permissions to be sought, the woman asked the complainant to pay some fees to the account she shared."She asked the victim to pay certain amounts from time to time to clear the mandatory checks and permissions so that he was shielded from any action by govt departments or any tax issues. In this way, the woman earned his trust and got approximately Rs 6.5 lakh transferred to the account she provided, over some time since Sept 2024," the police officer in April, the man realised something was amiss as the woman stopped responding to his calls, and he discovered that almost all of his funds were gone. He realised he was cheated. He has now registered the case with the cyber police in Nashik.

India-U.K. FTA deal: Farmers' outfits decry India-U.K. trade pact as threat to agriculture and small industries
The farmers' organisations expressed grave concern at the signing of a free trade agreement between India and United Kingdom. The organisations alleged that the treaty was signed despite protests by farmers, fish workers and cattle farmers, is a matter of grave concern. Samyukt Kisan Morcha core committee member and All India Kisan Sabha president Ashok Dhawale said as per statements from both the governments, products from the U.K. such as lamb, salmon, soft drinks, chocolate, biscuits, medical devices, cosmetics, electrical machinery, and aerospace will be dumped into our markets without any restrictions by slashing Indian tariffs. 'This will act against the interest of farmers, fish workers and micro, small and medium enterprises that are engaged in food processing. In the past, all such free trade agreements, both bilateral and multilateral, have failed the Indian farmers and small industries,' Dr. Dhawale said. 'Imperialist grip' on Indian economy He added that this agreement too is in that direction of past treaties and will deepen the realisation crisis in India's agricultural and manufacturing sectors and will allow the international finance capital to prey on these sectors. 'Such treaties are imposed on the people without any Parliamentary scrutiny. The central government is paving the way for yet another imperialist rule on the country. The Union government should back off from this treaty immediately. It should also withdraw from negotiations with the United States for a similar treaty that would pander to the Trump-led imperialist regime,' Dr. Dhawale said. Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) coordinator Pavel Kussa said the treaty will firm the 'imperialist grip' on Indian economy. 'Already, this imperialist grip has created hurdles in our development. Now, more foreign products will be dumped here. This reminds the East India Company's colonial rule over India. The Union Government wants to hand over the country's markets to imperialist rulers yet again,' Mr. Kussa said adding that on the one hand, the Centre is promoting ultra nationalism and on the other hand it is betraying the national interest and people's interests and succumbing to imperialist powers.
