Operation Sindoor: Southern Army Commander lauds troops for dominating Rann of Kutch, Sir Creek
THE GENERAL Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth on Friday assessed the security situation in strategically sensitive forward areas of Rann of Kutch and commended the troops for effectively dominating the Rann of Kutch and Sir Creek sector under Operation Sindoor, the Pune-headquartered Command said. On Friday, Lt Gen Seth visited the Bhuj-headquartered 75 (Independent) Infantry Brigade, also known as the Bald Eagle Brigade, of the Indian Army. The formation falls under the Konark Corps, also known as the Desert Corps, of the Southern Command. The visit was primarily aimed at assessing the prevailing security situation in the strategically crucial Rann of Kutch. 'During his visit, he interacted with troops deployed in this strategically crucial and challenging terrain, receiving detailed updates on ground operations. He lauded the unwavering dedication, courage and professionalism of all ranks, commending their high morale and vigilant efforts in effectively dominating the Rann and Creek Sector under Operation Sindoor,' a post on X from the handle of Southern Command read. In an X post on May 9, during Operation Sindoor, the Ministry of Defence had said, 'On the night of 8–9 May 2025, Pakistan carried out large-scale violations of Indian airspace, attempting to target military infrastructure with 300–400 drones across 36 locations from Leh to Sir Creek. Indian forces neutralized many using kinetic and non-kinetic means.' The Rann of Kutch is a salt marsh located between Gujarat and the Sindh province of Pakistan. Similarly the Sir Creek region is a marshland, opening into the Arabian Sea. The marshy terrain, tidal creeks and lack of physical barriers make it difficult to monitor and patrol, increasing chances of infiltration. Last year in October Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Sir Creek to celebrate Diwali with troops from the armed forces and the BSF.
