Abu Dhabi to amend DARB toll rules from Sept.1, removing daily and monthly caps

The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has announced amendments to the provisions of the Road Toll Executive Regulations in Abu Dhabi (DARB). This comes as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion on main roads during peak hours. The new amendments will come into effect starting Monday, 1 September 2025, introducing changes to the tariff schedule. The evening period will be revised to run from 3pm to 7pm, while the morning period will remain unchanged, from 7am to 9am, Monday through Saturday. Tariffs will continue to be free of charge on Sundays and official public holidays. The new amendments also remove the current daily and monthly toll caps for private vehicles. This means there will no longer be a maximum limit on the toll charges collected per vehicle each day (Dhs16) or each month (Dhs200, Dhs150, and Dhs100) for the first, second or third vehicle, or any additional vehicle after that. Under the updated rules, a fee of Dhs4 will apply each time a vehicle passes through a toll gate in the emirate. The existing exemption policy will continue for eligible groups, including People of Determination, low-income families, senior citizens, and retirees. Q Mobility, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company (ADQ), will assume management and operation of Abu Dhabi's DARB toll system, working in coordination with the relevant authorities to implement the updates.

Abu Dhabi court orders man to return Dhs260,000 he borrowed from a woman

Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to repay Dhs260,000 to a woman from whom he borrowed the amount but failed to repay it, repeatedly delaying settlement. The woman filed a lawsuit demanding the man repay the Dhs260,000 loan, along with a 12% legal interest until full repayment. She also sought Dhs16,000 for car installments he was supposed to pay but failed to, despite using the vehicle for four months. The plaintiff stated that the appellee received Dhs260,000 from her, as evidenced by a debt acknowledgment for the loan. Additionally, he took possession of her car, agreeing to pay Dhs4,005 in monthly installments for four months during which he used the vehicle. During the hearing, the court administered an oath to the plaintiff, who swore she lent the appellee Dhs260,000, which he did not repay. The court reviewed the evidence submitted by the plaintiff, including a promissory note proving the loan. The appellee appeared in court but failed to provide evidence of repayment or dispute the authenticity of his signature on the promissory note.

Abu Dhabi man fraudulently sells farm granted by government, court obliges him to return Dhs104,000

Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Cases Court has ordered a man to return Dhs104,000 and pay Dhs5,000 in compensation to another. The case date back to the time when a man agreed with another to purchase a farm he owned and sent him Dhs104,000 as part of the payment. However, it was later discovered that the farm was a government grant and could not be sold. The plaintiff filed a lawsuit demanding the return of the Dhs104,000, along with Dhs16,000 in compensation for material and moral damages incurred, as well as legal fees. The plaintiff provided evidence of the payment through transfer receipts and filed a criminal complaint against the appellee for fraud, resulting in a six-month prison sentence and a fine. The court noted that the appellee admitted to the debt during proceedings at the Case Management Office, leading to the court's decision to order the repayment. Additionally, the court ordered him to pay Dhs5,000 in compensation for the plaintiff's material and moral damages.
