When will the official Eid Al Adha dates will be announced in Dubai?
Another public holiday is fast approaching in the UAE, and unsurprisingly, we're already looking forward to some well-deserved, government-mandated time off. The next UAE public holiday is rapidly approaching, and we're already counting down the days. Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha will officially give us four days off in June, but when exactly the break begins won't be revealed until at least Tuesday May 27. Public holidays like Eid Al Adha move around the calendar every year as dates are tied to the Islamic Hijri calendar. The Islamic calendar relies on the cycles of the moon, as opposed to the more widely used Gregorian calendar, which is based on the sun. Months in the Hijri calendar are all either 29 days long or 30 days long. The exact duration of each month isn't known until the 29th day and depends on whether or not the crescent moon can be seen. You might also like: Eid Al Adha break will fall over the weekend this year: Here's why this public holiday won't shift Unlike Eid Al Fitr and Islamic New Year, Eid Al Adha does not fall on the first day of an Islamic Hijri month, and therefore, this time we'll know when it begins around a week in advance. This particular Eid break begins on Dhu Al Hijjah 9 with Arafat Day before rolling into Dhu Al Hijjah 10, 11 and 12 for Eid Al Adha. So when exactly is Eid Al Adha 2025? Once we know when Dhu Al Hijjah begins, we'll know when we'll be off for Eid Al Adha (Credit: Canva) Dhu Al Hijjah is the 12th and final month in the Islamic calendar and comes directly after the current month of Dhu Al Qa'dah. Dhu Al Qa'dah began on Tuesday April 29, and once we find out when the month of truce ends, we'll then be able to confirm the beginning of the Eid Al Adha holiday. The latest astronomical predictions indicate that Wednesday May 28 will be the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah. If Dhu Al Qa'dah is a 29-day month, then the final day of the month will be Tuesday May 27. This would then mean that the Dhu Al Hijjah 9 and the Eid Al Adha break would begin on Thursday June 5, giving us a four-day long weekend with Sunday June 8 being the final day of the holiday. But if Dhu Al Qa'dah is a 30-day month, then the final day of the month will be Wednesday May 28. This would then mean that Dhu Al Hijjah 9 and the Eid Al Adha break would begin on Friday June 6, giving us a four-day long weekend with Monday June 9 being the final day of the holiday. Eid Al Adha 2025: Get a 9-day holiday with 3 days annual leave
Eid Al Ada is coming sooner than you think, and we're set for a bumper break to celebrate it. Now that Dhu Al Qa'dah has begun, you're already running out of time to book any annual leave to maximise those days off. While the exact dates of the holiday won't be confirmed until we know when Dhu Al Hijjah begins, we have a clear indication of when Eid Al Adha should begin. The four-day holiday, which starts with Arafat Day, runs from Dhu Al Hijjah 9 until Dhu Al Hijjah 12. In 2025, the break should start on either Thursday June 5 or Friday June 6, according to current predictions. When exactly this holiday begins depends on moon sightings and the Islamic Hijri calendar, which will determine whether Ramadan is a 29-day or 30-day month. Sandwich leave in Dubai (Credit: Canva) Some companies in the UAE will give you an annual leave day back if your day off ends up coinciding with a public holiday date, but this is not the case across the board. Check your employment contract to see if this applies to you. You should also check with your employer regarding their policy on what is known as 'sandwich leave' – annual leave days booked on either side of a public holiday. It is possible that your employer could count your booked annual leave and the public holiday as annual leave if you don't check with them ahead of time. For example, if you book three days off ahead of a Thursday and Friday public holiday, then all five days could count towards your annual leave allowance with some employers. So, make sure to check in advance whether or not this would apply to your holiday. Days off in Dubai UAE public holidays 2025: When are all the public holidays this year? You'll know if you've lived in the UAE for a significant time that each Eid break depends on when a particular moon is sighted and the moon sighting committees deem that it has or has not been spotted. Current predictions show that the Eid Al Adha 2025 holiday dates will begin on Thursday June 5 with Arafat Day followed by Eid Al Adha 2025 on Friday June 6, Saturday June 7 and Sunday June 8.
