China dad berated for locking naked son in iron cage, claims pen used to prevent wandering

A father in China who has been criticised for locking his naked toddler son in an iron cage claims the pen was purely used to prevent the boy from wandering. On June 16, several naked toddlers were spotted on a red tricycle parked by the roadside in Hainan province, southern China, and one of them was inside an iron cage. The person recording the video said: 'This poor kid. How could the parents be so cruel? The sun is so strong, he could get sunburned.' Worried about possible abuse or child trafficking, passers-by alerted the police. Diao told the police his caged toddler son was naked so that he would not suffer from the heat. Como stuns title-chasing Napoli

Napoli's Giacomo Raspadori in action with Como's Ivan Smolcic and Gabriel Strefezza during their Serie A match at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, Como on February 23. PHOTO: REUTERS Napoli missed the chance to return to the top of Serie A in a stunning 2-1 loss to Como at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Sunday, as the title-chasing visitors' winless streak extended to four matches. Napoli suffered their first defeat in 11 Serie A matches and remain second with 56 points from 26 games, one point behind reigning champions Inter Milan. Promoted Como are 13th on 28 points. Napoli got off to a nightmare start when Kosovan centre back Amir Rrahmani gifted the lead to Como in the seventh minute by sending Matteo Politano's throw-in into his own net, with goalkeeper Alex Meret well off his line, to the despair of manager Antonio Conte. Ten minutes later, forward Giacomo Raspadori pounced on some sloppy defending to slot the ball past Como keeper Jean Butez and level things up for Napoli. However, winger Assane Diao netted a 77th-minute winner for Como with a stunning finish after picking up midfielder Nico Paz's precise pass. The 19-year-old Diao has now scored in three straight Serie A games. "I'm enjoying myself, every day even in training, and I think this also shows on the pitch. I have to thank the team, the coach and the club for everything they are giving me," Como match-winner Diao told DAZN. "I have to be free on the pitch, I feel a lot of the confidence that (Como head coach Cesc) Fabregas gives me and this allows me to be free on the pitch." Apart from the own-goal blunder, Napoli were the better side with 60% possession in the opening half and looked more threatening. But Como were far superior after the break and their efforts were not in vain as they clinched their second Serie A victory over Napoli, with the first coming in 1952. Scott McTominay nearly put Napoli ahead in the second half but Butez was in place to deny the midfielder. Rrahmani nearly snatched what would have been a crucial point for Napoli in the dying minutes of the game but his shot went just wide. "It's definitely a setback that hurts because of the way it came, because on a mental level we showed cracks, just like in the last three games where we always got caught up," Conte said. "I think the boys are really giving their best but we need to make a path and give time to grow, not only from a technical-tactical point of view but also in terms of mentality. "Then we've been playing since the beginning of the year with this pressure, which fortunately we brought on ourselves: being there at the top of the table or at least being close. "This was absolutely not expected. Now we have to face it in the best way, trying to analyse why in the second half the others showed more nastiness, they won all the duels, they had more hunger and more desire." Napoli next host Inter, who beat Genoa 1-0 at home on Saturday, in a blockbuster top-of-the-table clash at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona next Saturday. Inter take top spot after 1-0 win over Genoa A goal from Lautaro Martinez was enough to earn Inter Milan a 1-0 win over Genoa at the San Siro on Saturday and send the home side provisionally top of the Serie A standings. The win moved Inter to 57 points, one ahead of Napoli who are away to Como on Sunday, while Genoa are 12th on 30 points. Inter came into the game on the back of a disappointing run, with one win in their last four matches and, with a top-of-the-table clash with Napoli coming up in a week's time, were badly in need of a confidence boost. The hosts laid siege to the Genoa half in the opening 10 minutes without ever really creating a clear-cut chance. Inter could find no way through, their every foray into the Genoa area blocked by a determined and disciplined defence and neither keeper was troubled in an opening half short on entertainment. Joaquin Correa, making just his second start of the campaign, limped off at the break forcing Inter into a change, with Mehdi Taremi coming on for the second half. Inter were already without the injured Marcus Thuram and were sorely missing their top scorer in the league this season.

Inter Misses Chance to Go Top of Serie A after Losing at Juventus in Derby d'Italia

Defending champion Inter Milan missed its chance to move top of Serie A on Sunday after losing 1-0 at Juventus, which boosted its hopes of a top-four finish. Francisco Conceição scored the only goal in the 74th minute of a high-tempo Derby d'Italia, or Italy's derby as matches between the two fierce rivals have come to be known, The Associated Press reported. Inter wasted a number of chances and remained two points behind league leader Napoli, which was held to a 2-2 draw at Lazio on Saturday. Juventus is fourth. 'There's certainly great regret and disappointment — clearly we should have been better at finishing and scoring goals," Inter coach Simone Inzaghi said. "Because after a first half like that we should have gone in at the break ahead. "Then we didn't approach the second half like the first ... we need to work even harder because what we're doing isn't enough for what we want to achieve.' Inter visits Napoli in a potential title-deciding match in two weeks. 'We'll try to do our best, or at least better than tonight,' Inzaghi said. Inter had the better of the chances in the first half, with Lautaro Martinez uncharacteristically blazing over the bar from close range when completely unmarked. However, visiting goalkeeper Yann Sommer had to make the most important saves. Nerazzurri defender Denzel Dumfries also hit the post twice. But it was Juventus which broke the deadlock with a fantastic assist from new signing Randal Kolo Muani. The France forward, who had scored five goals in three league matches for Juventus, gathered the ball on the edge of the area and made his way through a crowd of players before tripping. The ball came to Conceição, who drove it into the bottom left corner. Juventus almost doubled its lead two minutes later but Dumfries did brilliantly to clear Teun Koopmeiners' effort off the line. The match had also been dubbed 'the Thuram derby' with Marcus Thuram playing for Inter and younger brother Khéphren for Juventus. However, Marcus was recovering from an ankle problem and was only brought on in the 62nd minute, 15 minutes before Khéphren was substituted off. Their dad, Lilian Thuram — who starred as a defender for Juventus and won the World Cup with France in 1998 — was watching from the stands. Teenage hero Teenager Assane Diao could very well prove to be Como's savior. The 19-year-old scored again on Sunday to set relegation-threatened Como on its way to a 2-0 win at Fiorentina. It was Diao's fourth goal in his seven matches since joining from Real Betis last month and the win lifted Cesc Fàbregas' team five points above the drop zone. Fiorentina was four points below Juventus. Como broke the deadlock four minutes before halftime with a rapid counterattack. A Fiorentina free kick was headed out of the area when Diao gathered the ball deep inside his own half and raced forward to beat home goalkeeper David De Gea one-on-one. Nico Paz doubled Como's lead in the 66th with a shot that took a slight deflection to curl in off the top of the left post. Game-changing moment Roma was without injured star forward Paulo Dybala but managed to win 1-0 at 10-man Parma. The match changed in the 29th minute when teenage Parma defender Giovanni Leoni fouled Roma's Matías Soulé. The referee initially awarded a penalty to the visitors and showed Leoni a yellow card. However, the video assistant referee confirmed that contact was outside the area so the penalty was rescinded but Leoni's card was changed to a red as the 18-year-old had prevented a clear scoring opportunity. To make matters worse for Parma, Soulé dinked the resulting free kick over the wall and into the top right corner. Roma was nine points below the top four, while Parma remained a point from safety. Empoli occupies that last place of safety despite losing 3-0 at Udinese for its eighth defeat in its past 10 matches. Alessandro Nesta returned as coach of bottom club Monza last week — two months after he was fired — and managed to end his team's four-match losing streak with a 0-0 draw against Lecce.

European football: Inter miss chance while racist chants halt La Liga game

Inter missed the chance to go top of Serie A as they fell to a 1-0 loss at Juventus on Sunday with Francisco Conceição scoring the decisive late goal in an action packed match. The Portuguese winger sparked jubilation in the stadium after 74 minutes following some clever footwork in the box by Randal Kolo Muani before he found Conceição, who fired home. Inter failed to capitalise on Napoli being held to a 2-2 draw at Lazio on Saturday and are two points off the pace with 54 points from 25 games. Juve are now in fourth spot with 46. Inter quickly got into their stride with Mehdi Taremi's bicycle kick saved by Michele Di Gregorio before Denzel Dumfries put the ball over the bar. Juve responded with Nicolás Gonzalez forcing Yann Sommer into a fine double save, first to keep out a long-range shot and then to deny Conceiçao from the rebound. Both sides continued to attack in the second half but it was Conceição who finally broke Inter's resistance to leave the title race finally with 13 rounds of matches to go. Meanwhile, teenager Assane Diao could very well prove to be Como's savior. The 19-year-old scored again to set his relegation threatened side on their way to a 2-0 win at Fiorentina. It was Diao's fourth goal in his seven matches since joining from Real Betis last month and the win lifted Cesc Fàbregas' team five points above the drop zone. Alessandro Nesta returned as coach of bottom club Monza last week – two months after he was fired – and managed to end his team's four-match losing streak with a 0-0 draw at home to Lecce. Athletic Bilbao's LaLiga game at Espanyol was halted temporarily after visiting striker Inaki Williams reported alleged racist abuse towards teammate Maroan Sannadi in a 1-1 draw. The incident occurred in the first half when Williams told the referee Guillermo Cuadra Fernández that Espanyol fans had hurled racial abuse at Sannadi, whose parents are Moroccan. The game was stopped in the 16th minute when the referee discussed the issue with the two captains and match delegate. Sign up to Football Daily Kick off your evenings with the Guardian's take on the world of football after newsletter promotion Spanish media reported that the match was halted for three minutes as part of the anti-racism protocol, and announcements were made asking the crowd to stop chanting. The referee warned that he would stop the game if the incident was repeated. After the game resumed, Espanyol's Roberto Fernández scored in the 62nd minute and Oihan Sancet equalised in the 77th. Espanyol and Athletic condemned the abuse on Sunday. Eintracht Frankfurt ended their run of three draws and consolidated third place in the Bundesliga with a 3-1 win over relegation threatened Holstein Kiel. Hugo Ekitiké had a penalty saved and a late goal ruled out for offside. But others stepped up to score the goals that showed Eintracht can live without Omar Marmoush. Kiel could take some solace from Heidenheim's 2-0 loss at home to Mainz in Sunday's late game. Heidenheim stayed on 14 points, ahead of Bochum on goal difference, and just a point above Kiel. Hoffenheim came from behind to win 3-1 at Werder Bremen in the early game.
