This year marks the return of the AMAs following October 2024's top-rated 'American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special' on CBS, named one of the most-watched entertainment specials of the year. As the most-streamed AMAs in the show's history, the star-studded special surpassed 13M in reach and averaged over 6.1M viewers, an increase of +53% from the last show in 2022 on ABC, making it the largest year-over-year growth of a music special or award show in the world. This Memorial Day, the AMAs will pay special tribute to our U.S. troops and veterans through authentic performances and unforgettable moments. The AMAs and Easy Day Foundation, the Las Vegas-based nonprofit organization committed to helping Veterans transition to civilian life, have partnered to present two performances and a special award honoring a marquee talent who uses their platform to make meaningful contributions to the Veteran community. The event will also feature inspirational stories from active-duty service members and veterans. The 2025 American Music Awards is produced by Dick Clark Productions and will broadcast globally across linear and digital platforms. Blake Shelton, Gloria Estefan, Gwen Stefani, Reneé Rapp and American Music Awards nominees Benson Boone and Lainey Wilson have been tapped to perform at the 2025 AMAs, CBS and Dick Clark Productions announced today. Janet Jackson AMAs 2025: Musical great receives ICON award, proceeds to reject title

The five-time Grammy Award winner was celebrated for her profound impact on the music industry, with CBS and Dick Clark Productions calling her "one of the most influential entertainers of the modern era." Ahead of accepting the honour, Jackson, 59, performed a dynamic medley of her 2001 hits "Someone to Call My Lover" and "All for You," showcasing her signature dance moves. Jackson, dressed in loose-fitting jeans, a white puffer jacket, and a tee, elevated the performance with a funky remix and a striking guitar solo during the latter track. Following the performance, actress Tasha Smith presented Jackson with the ICON Award, offering a heartfelt tribute. Jackson's acceptance speech was both gracious and humble. 'I love you so much,' she began, before addressing the crowd. 'I am so honoured. I am so grateful. I mean, no disrespect in any way, but I don't consider myself an icon.' She continued, reflecting on her upbringing: 'My family, myself, our dream wasn't ever to be famous. We weren't raised like that. We always had a special love for music, dancing, singing and fame came with the result of hard work and dedication. My story, my family's story is truly an American story.
