Varanasi: Jaunpur SP Kaustubh on Friday late night suspended three policemen, including Mungra Badshahpur police station in charge, while a revenue officer faced similar action directed by district magistrate. Cases were filed against both constables and the revenue officer for threatening a petitioner to withdraw a plea filed in high court and for bribery related to a land dispute involving village society land. Talking to TOI on Saturday, the SP said police inspector Dilip Kumar Singh and constables Pankaj Maurya and Nitish Gaur were suspended with immediate effect, while revenue officer Vijay Shankar was suspended by the DM. Later, FIR was lodged in the case of threatening to withdraw petition filed in high court and bribery allegations. A thorough investigation began into their role in connection with allegations that they threatened Gaurishankar Saroj, resident of Badagaon, who filed a petition in high court in May against encroachment on gram samaj land, to withdraw the case. They also held his grandson, Rajneesh Saroj, but released him after a bribe of Rs 2,000. Saroj made the court aware of these developments through his lawyer and statements from Saroj and his grandson Rajneesh were recorded. On Jul 8, court ordered SP Jaunpur to appear before it on Jul 9 with all necessary details and information related to the case. The SP appeared before the court on Jul 9. Kanpur: A jeweller in Govind Nagar police jurisdiction was provided security by deploying two constables at his residence after he filed a complaint of receiving extortion calls. Earlier, he was also attacked by two assailants on Sunday. Anil Gupta, former president of the Bilhaur Trade Association, and resident of Govindnagar area operates his shop in Bilhaur, visiting his establishment on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. On Sunday night, while returning home after closing his shop, he received a call from an unidentified number but couldn't respond. Later, around 9:30pm two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire on him outside his house, however the trader escaped unhurt. The assailants fled after the attack. He later received an extortion call for Rs 50 lakh. The criminals called on the following day also after which the trader approached the police. A complaint as filed on Monday and investigation was initiated. ACP Babupurwa Dilip Kumar Singh confirmed that investigators have apprehended additional suspects from Unnao for questioning. Varanasi: Jaunpur superintendent of police took disciplinary action on Saturday by suspending an inspector who was captured in a viral video subjecting a youth to severe physical abuse. Two constables who assisted the inspector during the incident faced suspension as well. Jaunpur uperintendent of Police Kaustubh said as the investigation report confirmed misbehaviour with a youth by Mungra Badshahpur police station's former in-charge Vinod Kumar Mishra, he was suspended. Inspector Dilip Kumar Singh has replaced Mishra as the new Mungra Badshahpur police station in-charge. The SP also ordered the suspension of two police constables Vipin Yadav and Chandan Singh, who assisted Mishra in brutalising the youth. On Apr 24, the Jaunpur SP ordered a probe into a viral video that showed Mishra brutally beating a youth inside the police station, while two police constables forcibly kept him standing against a pillar. His adversaries, including one Mujahid, lodged a police complaint against him, alleging assault and verbal abuse. According to Taufiq's statement, police officers brought him from his residence to the station for interrogation regarding this complaint. He claimed that the station in-charge restrained him by tying him to a pole and subjected him to physical abuse with a belt for thirty minutes. Following the assault, the victim lost consciousness. The station head's brutality continued as he struck the individual repeatedly with both wooden and plastic chairs. A bystander captured the violent incident on camera, which subsequently spread across social media platforms. The 40-second footage caught the attention of senior authorities. Subsequently, Dilip Kumar Singh received the appointment as the new station head.
