Mom of 3-year-old Nola Dinkins, who was subject of Amber Alert, charged with lying to police

The mother of a 3-year-old girl whom police say falsely reported that her daughter was abducted has been charged with lying to police following an "intensive" nightlong investigation that involved multiple police agencies, including the FBI. Darrian Randle, 31, was charged with one felony count of false reporting for calling New Castle County Police on the evening of June 10 to say her daughter, Nola Dinkins, was abducted at gunpoint in the 500 block of Gender Road in Ogletown. Police now believe Dinkins to be dead, with Maryland State Police saying just before 4:30 p.m. on June 11 that a body had been found in Cecil County. The agency said investigators are "waiting on positive identification." BACKGROUND: Bill to limit Delaware police cooperation with feds on immigration released from House committee Randle told police that she was driving and Dinkins was upset, so she stopped the car to calm the girl down about 7:15 p.m. She claimed that's when the little girl was taken. Police said at a brief news conference on June 11 that the story was a lie. 'The Amber Alert is now canceled and there's no danger to the public,' said New Castle County Police Sgt. Andrea Botterbusch. 'Sadly, this incident is now being treated as a homicide investigation.' Elena Russo, a spokesperson for the Maryland State Police, confirmed they are leading the investigation. She said police believe the child lived in Cecil County, Maryland. Little information about Randle was immediately known. A largely private Facebook profile showcased two photos that appeared to be of Dinkins when she was a baby. Court records from Indiana, where public records show Randle lived for many years, show a paternity case with Dinkins' father was resolved in March of this year. Randle had filed a notice of relocation in January. The case ultimately went to mediation and was resolved, court records show. When reached by Delaware Online/The News Journal via phone on June 11, Dinkins' paternal grandmother directed a reporter to a family spokesperson. That woman, who did not give her name, said the family did not have "anything to share at this moment." This is a developing story. Return to for updates. Delaware girl reported missing in NCCo now being treated as MD homicide; abduction no longer believed

A 3-year-old girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert issued the night of June 10 is still missing, though police no longer believe she was abducted, as her mother initially claimed. The alert for the child has been canceled, police said. In a brief news conference held on June 11, New Castle County Police said this was not an abduction and this is being treated as a homicide investigation by Maryland State Police. The FBI is also investigating. County police issued an Amber Alert shortly after 10 p.m. on June 10, which said the girl's mother contacted police to say her daughter had been abducted at gunpoint by an unknown white man. The mom claimed it happened in the 500 block of Gender Road, a mostly wooded area in Ogletown, about 7:15 p.m. She said she was driving and Dinkins was upset, so she stopped the car to calm the girl down. The mom told police that's when her daughter was taken. She also claimed that an "unknown white female" was driving a car that the man was in. As police and the FBI investigated the abduction, Sgt. Andrea Botterbusch said detectives determined the mother's account was false. 'The Amber alert is now canceled and there's no danger to the public,' Botterbusch said. 'Sadly, this incident is now being treated as a homicide investigation.' A day later, one of the few residents who lives near the road said she didn't hear anything until police knocked on her door about 9 p.m. on June 10. About 12 hours later, on June 11, two unmarked police SUVs were parked along Gender Road. By 10 a.m., one of the SUVs had left. The area where police were told the abduction occurred is mostly wooded, with almost no shoulder to safely park a car. There are a few long streets leading to a development and corporate compound tucked away off the road. An Amber Alert is issued when a child has been abducted and is at risk of serious injury or death. Law enforcement agencies send descriptions of the missing children, their abductors or other information to broadcasters. The alerts also show up on electronic highway signs. Drivers can expect to see this notification on highway signs across the state. While AMBER is really short for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response, it was created as a legacy to 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was abducted and killed in Texas in 1996. The slaying remains unsolved. This is a developing story. Return to for updates. Texas Station Damaged by Winds Gusting Over 80MPH

KTXS in Abilene, Texas was damaged by winds gusting over 80 MPH on Sunday evening. The ABC affiliate said no one was hurt during what it initially called a tornado. It also said it's switching over to YouTube to deliver its newscasts. Meteorologist Caiden Dinkins said The NWS came out to survey the area and, 'things are leaning towards very strong straight-line winds.' At approximately 11 p.m. on June 8 during a severe weather event, a tornado struck the KTXS facility, causing significant damage, destroying our tower and impacting much of the building. We are thankful there were no injuries at the station. Our team is working quickly to assess the damage and find a solution to bring KTXS back on air as soon as possible. KTXS The station said the winds blew the KTXS STL tower from the back of the building to the front lawn. It also said the winds caved in the garage and the roof of the studio was blown away. 'You don't ever expect to experience something like that,' said Dinkins. 'The power went out in the studio and the whole entire station and we were walking back into the studio. You just feel this, almost, suction kind of taking you with these winds as this roof is pulling off. My ears popped, I felt like I was gravitating towards that area that was opening and me and Mark just, all we could do was take cover and hope for the best.'

‘Significantly crossed the boundaries': report details misconduct of former GCMS teacher

GIBSON CITY, Ill. (WCIA) — A teacher in Ford County was fired last month after police opened an investigation into reports that he sent inappropriate text messages to students. Now, the school district has released further information about those texts and other misconduct. Through a FOIA request, WCIA received a redacted version of the statement detailing the charges against former Gibson City Middle School math teacher Robbie Dinkins Thursday evening. Gibson City man released after firearm, drug charges found to be non-detainable The report explains how Dinkins would send emotional text messages to confide in students about stressors in his personal life, including the deaths of people close to him. He also admitted to investigators he would sometimes be intoxicated when texting students. 'Your texts were sent late at night and significantly crossed the boundaries of a student/teacher or athlete/coach relationship,' the district wrote to Dinkins. 'Your text messages caused students distress over your safety and state of mind.' The district gave Dinkins a warning of only contacting students and parents on school-sanctioned platforms, like Thrillshare and Remind, in July 2024. He continued to text on his phone and did not guide students to use other platforms despite the warning. In addition, Dinkins would repeatedly meet with students alone, at his house, after hours on school property and in his car offering rides to students. At his house, students would 'use medical equipment, organize soccer equipment, have meals, or just hang out.' Dinkins also was physically affectionate with students, the reports notes, including hugging students in public and telling students he loved them both in private and in public. All of these allegations 'created at least the appearance of impropriety' of student-staff relationships, the board of education noted. 'You developed trusting relationships with students and their families and then violated that trust when you allowed those relationships to cross the professional boundaries expected by a teacher and a coach,' part of the statement reads. Documents reveal complaints against PBL teacher, coach accused of inappropriate touching The district noted that Dinkins completed training in Aug. 2023 and Aug. 2024 on what is grooming and what could be perceived as grooming. Dinkins was also invited to testify in front of the board in closed session regarding the allegations. He declined; instead he wrote a statement to the board. The school board voted unanimously to terminate Dinkins on April 23. He was previously placed on administrative leave. A special prosecutor has been appointed by the Ford County State's Attorney to investigate the case. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
