Unni Mukundan DENIES physical assault allegations made by Vipin, admits throwing sunglasses during argument: 'There was no physical contact'
Picture Credit: X Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan addressed the recent allegations of assault made against him by his former manager, Vipin Kumar, during a press conference held in Kochi. Admits heated argument, but denies physical violence According to an ANI report, Mukundan firmly denied any physical violence, clarifying that while a heated argument did take place, it did not escalate to assault. He admitted to throwing Vipin's sunglasses during the confrontation but insisted there was no physical contact. The report suggests he said, "As a friend, I only wanted to confront Vipin about why he was speaking negatively about me. During the heated exchange, I did throw his sunglasses, that is true. But there was no physical contact." Claims Vipin faces other complaints in industry The 'Garudan' actor also shared that Vipin is facing multiple complaints from other members of the film fraternity, including actresses who have approached film organizations with grievances against him. The actor disclosed that two weeks prior to the incident, he received a mysterious phone call from a woman who named Vipin and others in connection with troubling allegations. Concerned, Unni reported the matter to senior police officials. He further stated that a prominent actress had contacted him, upset over rumors Vipin had allegedly spread about her, which Unni denied. Mukundan has filed a counter-complaint with the Kerala Director General of Police (DGP). He stated, "Two weeks ago, I received a call from an unknown number. The caller named several people, including Vipin. That was when I realised something was wrong." The controversy began after Vipin Kumar filed a police complaint accusing Unni of physically attacking him in the basement parking area of the actor's apartment complex. Vipin alleged that Unni's frustration over the lukewarm response to his recent film led to the altercation. However, Unni explained that Vipin was never officially his manager but had handled PR for some of his films. Disc Award conferred by outgoing Himachal DGP withdrawn
Last Updated: Shimla, May 31 (PTI) The order to confer the Director General of Police (DGP) Disc Award on 172 police officers in recognition of their outstanding work in 2024 was withdrawn on Saturday. This came after DGP Atul Verma, who issued this order, retired on Saturday. Verma, a 1991-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, served as the DGP since 2024. The order to confer the Disc Award was withdrawn and the post in this regard shared on Facebook was also removed. Verma, who proceeded on leave earlier on Wednesday along with Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Onkar Sharma and Shimla Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, returned on Friday. The three were on Tuesday asked to proceed on leave after a meeting held here by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu with senior officials. The discussion during the meeting focused on the issue related to the high court's order to transfer Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) chief engineer Vimal Negi's death case to the CBI. This came after the DGP submitted a status report to the high court, questioning the impartiality of the SIT probe. Sukhu had expressed his displeasure over the ongoing tussle between Verma and Gandhi and also with the additional chief secretary for bypassing the advocate general's office while submitting his fact-finding report. Andhra HC directs DGP to probe sleeper cell activities
VIJAYAWADA: In the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack and intelligence alerts, the High Court on Wednesday directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to probe alleged sleeper cell activity across the State and submit a report by Thursday. Justice N Harinath issued the directives while hearing petitions filed by advocate Surapareddy Gouthami and A Shivakumar of Proddatur. The petitioners alleged inaction of the State Police and Home Department despite central intelligence reports indicating that about 20,000 sleeper cell operatives linked to Pakistan's ISI are active across India, with around 1,200 suspected in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Nandyal, Guntur, and Kadapa. The petitioners cited the Pahalgam terror attack, which left several civilians dead and injured, as a trigger for heightened alerts across states. Petitioner's counsel Narsi Reddy argued that AP police failed to investigate ISI-linked networks or reassure the public, calling the inaction a serious lapse in internal security management. In response, the High Court issued notices to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and instructed the DGP to investigate sleeper cell activity based on the evidence provided by the petitioners. The HC's intervention comes amid the arrests of Siraj Ur Rehman in Vizianagaram and Sameer in Hyderabad, who were allegedly plotting IED blasts. These developments have further raised concerns about terror network within the State, adding urgency to the court's directive aimed at protecting national security.

Evolve plan for effective functioning of CCTV cams in police stations: Andhra HC
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to formulate a detailed plan to ensure the effective functioning of CCTV cameras in all police stations across the State. A division bench comprising Justices R Raghunandan Rao and K Manmadha Rao, issued these orders in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by advocate Tandava Yogesh, highlighting the State's failure to comply with a 2015 Supreme Court directive mandating CCTV installation in police stations and jails. The court instructed the DGP to establish a dedicated authority to oversee the implementation. This authority shoud monitor the performance of CCTV cameras, ensure proper footage storage, and address issues such as equipment malfunctions, it said. The court emphasised that any complaints regarding faulty cameras or storage problems must be promptly reported to the authority. Further, the court mandated the creation of district-level authorities to supervise CCTV operations. These bodies should track details of complaints received, including their timing, and ensure accountability. The court further ordered that defective cameras be repaired or replaced within a specified timeframe, with mechanisms to identify individuals responsible for any delays. The State was directed to maintain an inventory of CCTV equipment and ensure adequate footage storage in every district. The court had given the DGP until June 17, 2025, to submit a comprehensive report on the plan.
