Raipur: Eighteen Maoists, including 10 carrying collective bounties of Rs 39 lakh, surrendered in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. Of the surrendered, Madkam Aayta (25), a platoon party committee member in Maoists' PLGA battalion number 1 and Bhaskar alias Bhogam Lakhha (26), a party member in the same battalion, carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh each. Sukma SP Kiran Chavan said that among those surrendered included a woman and the cadres said that they were too disappointed with the 'hollow' and 'inhuman' Maoist ideology while the local tribals were facing atrocities by senior commanders of other states. Citing that they were moved by the govt's Niyad Nellanar scheme and the development works going on across Bastar, besides, the new rehabilitation policy for surrendered Maoists was an inspiration to surrender. They said they were also impressed by the 'Niyad Nellanar' (your good village) scheme of the state government, aimed at facilitating development works in remote villages, and new surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state government, he said.
