State's economy in pink of health, says minister Hebbalkar
1 2 Udupi: Karnataka emerged as the highest per capita income (PCI) state in the country as the state govt demonstrated its efficiency in financial management to promote economic growth, said Laxmi Hebbalkar, minister of women and child development and in charge of Udupi district. During the 79th Independence Day celebration held at Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium in Ajjarkad on Friday, the minister said Karnataka ranks second in the country in GST collection, which is a clear example of the state's healthy economic system. Mahatma Gandhi, who led the freedom struggle, visited Udupi and called for the fight for freedom in Ajjarkad. It is an unforgettable event, and the memorial of this event remains permanent in this land, the minister recalled. The minister said approximately 82.57 lakh beneficiaries in the state are receiving direct deposits (DBT) through an Aadhaar-based transfer system every month. For farmers affected by natural calamities, the compensation software was upgraded to provide swift, transparent, and accurate relief directly to their bank accounts without any intermediaries, she added. Stating that the implementation of five guarantee schemes announced during the elections is ongoing, Hebbalkar said that the govt's performance received praise from experts both domestically and internationally. The proposal to upgrade Udupi City Municipality to a city corporation is under review by the govt, she said. Special attention is being given to developing tourism as a major sector in the district. Exhibition highlighting guarantee schemes inaugurated in Chamarajanagar
More than 500 crore women passengers across the State have availed free bus travel under the Shakti scheme so far, according to officials at the government-organised exhibition held at Chamarajanagar on Thursday. The three-day exhibition, which highlights the Karnataka government's development achievements and the successful implementation of its five guarantee schemes, aims to inform the public about the benefits of these initiatives. The expo was by Chamarajanagar MLA C. Puttarangashetty at the KSRTC bus stand and has been organised by the State Department of Information and Public Relations. Mr. Puttarangashetty said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar have fulfilled their promises to the people by effectively implementing the five guarantee schemes — Shakti, Gruha Lakshmi, Anna Bhagya, Gruha Jyothi, and Yuva Nidhi – and described them as people-centric and essential for the welfare of the State. The exhibition is being held to mark the completion of two years of the government and showcases other achievements as well. The MLA said it is also an attempt to inform the public about the progress pertaining to other development projects. 'Every citizen should be made aware of the schemes and accomplishments of the government,' he said. District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee president H.V. Chandru said the district ranked first in the State in terms of implementing the Gruha Lakshmi scheme. He urged the public to visit the exhibition and understand the scale and impact of the government's programs. Zilla Panchayat CEO Mona Roat, along with committee members, senior officials, and representatives from KSRTC and the Information Department, were among those present.

Title deeds distributed in Byndoor
Udupi: The Congress-led state govt is working with dedication by formulating programmes that focus on the welfare of common citizens, said women and child development minister and Udupi district minister Laxmi Hebbalkar. She was speaking at a programme organised in Byndoor assembly constituency to distribute title deeds under 94C to eligible beneficiaries and provide various govt benefits. She assured complete support for the district's development and called for collective efforts to develop the constituency. The minister praised the cooperation between former MLA Gopal Poojary and current MLA Gururaj Gantihole, stating that both are working together for the development of the constituency without political bias. "This is the kind of commitment politicians should have," she said. "Udupi is a district of intellectuals. Officials often hesitate before taking up postings here. I feel blessed to be given charge of Udupi district. It is as if Lord Krishna has showered his blessings on me," she said. Referring to the Indira Canteen , she said it was launched with the aim of providing nutritious food at affordable prices to the poor. "We made the most of the opportunities we got. Politics is not a shortcut; serving people is akin to serving God. We are setting aside personal agendas to fulfil our responsibilities as public representatives," she said. Marking 50 years since the launch of anganwadi centres, which were started by Indira Gandhi, she announced a large-scale celebration to be held on October 2. Meanwhile, after inaugurating the canteen, the minister noticed students standing in line to greet her while she was leaving. She stepped out of her vehicle, invited them into the canteen, and instructed the staff to serve them food. When some students approached her for a selfie, she gently led them by the hand into the canteen and insisted they eat first. Paryaya Puthige Mutt Seer leads Yoga Day session in Udupi
The Paryaya Puthige Mutt seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami led a one-hour long Yoga session in the Sri Krishna Mutt premises on the occasion of International Yoga Day on Saturday at Udupi. The yoga session was conducted under the directions of Yoga trainer Mamata Shettigar. 'I am taking part in the whole session only to make people aware that seers also do Yoga. I have been doing Yoga for a long time,' the seer said. The ancient concept of Yoga, which is a resource for physical and mental well being, should be spread across the world, the seer added. The session started with warm-up exercises that included the neck and shoulder rotations, which were followed by twisting of waist. Then 'Tadasana', 'Vrukshasana', 'Padahastasana', 'Ardhachakrasana', 'Bhadrasana', 'Vajrasana', 'Ustrasana', 'Bhujangasana', 'Mandookasana', 'Uttana Mandookasana', 'Sethubandhasana', and 'Shavasana' were done. Then 'Kapalabhati', 'Nadishoodhana Pranayama', 'Sheetali Pranayama', and 'Brahamari Prayanama' were done. Yoga has helped Udupi District in charge Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar on Saturday said it was because of regular yoga practice for over two decades that she was in a position to work 15 hours a day. Ms. Hebbalkar said she was going about 20 surya namaskars every day. Recent motor vehicle accident in which she was injured has constrained her from doing Yoga every day. She was now doing Yoga fives days a week. Yoga brings mental joy and promotes a healthy lifestyle, she said. Apart from Ms. Hebbalkar, Yashpal Suvarna and Gurme Suresh Shetty, Udupi District MLAs, Ashok Kodavoor, District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee Chairman, T.K. Swaroopa, Deputy Commissioner, Prateek Bayal, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer, Ganapathi, Kundapura Divisional Forest Officer, and Satish Acharya, District AYUSH officer took part.
