Canfield captures district championship over Field
LORAIN, Ohio (WKBN) – Canfield baseball took town Field 7-5 to claim the Division IV District Championship on Thursday night. The Cardinals offense piled up 12 hits and led wire-to-wire while adding four insurance runs in the 7th inning to extend their lead before closing out the two-run victory. With the win, Canfield improves to 19-10 overall and have won six straight games headed into the regional semifinal against Hubbard. That all-local matchup in the Division IV Regional Semifinals between the Cardinals and the Eagles is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3 at 5 p.m. in Canton at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium. Lakeview claims first district title in nearly a decade
ALLIANCE, Ohio (WKBN) – Lakeview softball downed Marlington 5-1 to claim the Bulldogs' first district title since 2016 in the Division IV District Championship game in Alliance on Saturday afternoon. Watch the video above for extended highlights and interviews with the Bulldogs. Lakeview's bats were hot early and scored all five runs in the first two innings. Bulldogs' Mackenzie Stowe, Hallie Capan and Linnea Kovac drove in one run each in the win. Lakeview's pitcher Isabella Isenberg earned the win with five strikeouts and gave up four hits in seven innings. Marlington's Justine Doringo drove in the lone run for the Dukes in the loss. Doringo also gave up six hits and five runs, with one strikeout in the loss. Marlington ends the season with an overall record of 16-6. Lakeview moves on to 20-4. Ursuline boys upset in the district semifinals
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Ursuline boys basketball team was upset by Gates Mills Hawken 84-66 on Tuesday night in the Division IV District Semifinals at Ursuline High School. Greg Price led the Hawks with a game-high 28 points in the victory. Jalen Gunther and Noah Bell tallied 23 points apiece in the setback for the Irish. With the win, Hawken advances to face the winner of NDCL/Oberlin in the Division IV District Championship game on Saturday at North Royalton High School.
