T'puram: The Thiruvananthapuram division recorded its highest-ever gross earnings of Rs 2,323cr this year and the highest-ever passenger earnings of Rs 1,705cr, said divisional railway manager Divyakant Chandrakat. Unfurling the national flag, he mentioned that special train operations saw a remarkable increase, with 1,703 services in 2024-25, a 94% rise over the previous year. This year, 48 special train services were introduced before Onam to manage festive travel demand. The year 2024-25 marked a period of exceptional performance for the division, achieving its highest-ever gross earnings of Rs 2,323cr, passenger earnings of Rs 1,705.71cr and ticket-checking revenue of Rs 41cr. This momentum continued in the current year, with close to one lakh passengers being carried daily. Passenger earnings grew by 4.84% to Rs 570cr, gross revenue touched Rs 742cr, and freight contributed Rs 116.25cr from 1,104 metric tonnes transported. The 'One Station One Product' scheme completed 45 phases, supporting local artisans and entrepreneurs.
