eHati founders, four others remanded for three days

SHAH ALAM: eHati International Sdn Bhd founders Diyana Tahir and Rahim Shukor, along with four others, have been remanded for three days. The remand order was issued by Magistrate Ameera Mastura Khamis after the four women and two men aged 26 to 57, were brought before the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court. They are being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person, Section 294 of the Penal Code for indecent behaviour, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act. Lawyer Datuk M. Reza Hassan, who is representing four of the six, including the couple and their child, said he has filed an application to review the decision to allow a three-day remand. "One of my clients submitted a medical report as they are unwell, but the court did not accept it, which is why we filed the review application," he said when met at the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court today. Earlier, all six suspects arrived at the court at 11am for the remand application. Yesterday, it was reported that Diyana and Rahim were detained after giving their statements at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters. The couple have denied allegations of spiked drinks and deviant practices at one of their recent events. They also said they have lodged a police report and a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission over the claims.

Cops arrest controversial ‘love programme' organisers, raid home

The organisers of the eHati marriage motivation programme held last year in Shah Alam are being investigated under criminal laws covering obscene acts, modesty and public decency. PETALING JAYA : Police have arrested Diyana Tahir and Rahim Shukor, the founders of eHati International Sdn Bhd, and raided their home after they gave their statements at the police headquarters here today. Their lawyer M Reza Hassan said his clients were arrested under Sections 294 and 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 (Act 336). Sections 294 and 509 of the Penal Code pertain to obscene acts or words in public and insults to modesty respectively, while Section 14 of Act 336 pertains to insulting behaviour. Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim also confirmed the arrests. Earlier today, Diyana and Rahim denied promoting obscene acts and insulting behaviour in their eHati marriage motivation programme held last year. They said eHati's programmes 'in no way neglect or sideline Islamic values, the sanctity of marriage or the roles of spouses and families', and were designed to help women cope with emotional and psychological challenges, without contradicting Islamic teachings. Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan yesterday said the police are investigating the programme under criminal laws covering obscene acts, modesty and public decency. The event held from Sept 27 to Sept 30 last year in Shah Alam, aimed at a Malay audience, had involved about 50 female participants. According to a Facebook user, the event's final day saw a female speaker in a bikini strip naked and dancing with members of her group. They allegedly encouraged participants to follow suit, and remove their clothes after giving them a 'mysterious' drink.

Police arrest eHati couple over ‘obscene acts' at marriage programme, raid home

PETALING JAYA, July 15 — The founders of eHati International Sdn Bhd, Diyana Tahir and Rahim Shukor, were reportedly arrested today after providing their statements to the police. According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), the couple's lawyer Datuk M Reza Hassan said they were arrested under Sections 294 and 509 of the Penal Code, which pertain to obscene acts and insulting the modesty of others. He said they were also being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for offensive behaviour. FMT further reported that Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed both the arrests. According to the report, the couple's residence was also raided. The case is linked to a marriage motivation programme organised by eHati in Shah Alam between September 27 and 30 last year. In a statement issued earlier today, Diyana and Rahim denied that their programmes contravened Islamic principles. They said the allegations were based on misleading and unverified claims circulated on social media. The couple also dismissed allegations that their sessions included rituals from other religions, and said that their modules used hypnotherapy, breathwork and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. They further said that a drink featured in the programme was made from raw cocoa, honey and natural spices, and did not contain any banned or hallucinogenic substances.
