Everton set to hand Richard Hughes £30m transfer BOOST

Everton want Ben Doak But Hughes and Slot could opt to cash in on some fringe and youth team players too. Liverpool had success last summer - selling Bobby Clark, Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho for a total of around £60m. Advertisement And this year there are a number of outstanding candidates who could earn the club decent money in the market. The first one to consider is Ben Doak - the 19-year-old Scottish winger who enjoyed a productive loan spell at Middlesbrough last season. The former Celtic youth returned to the club early due to an injury and his current status is unknown ahead of the window opening. However, a tempting bid could convince Liverpool to sell - meaning extra funds for incomings. And now it's been claimed by Paul Joyce in the Times that Everton are planning a bid for Doak when the window opens. © IMAGO - Arne Slot Liverpool Everton will have SIZEABLE transfer budget 'Everton have also discussed a move for Doak, although Liverpool are believed to be seeking about £25million to £30million for the 19-year-old Scotland attacker, who was the subject of a failed bid from Crystal Palace in January,' the report reads. Advertisement 'Regular opportunities at Liverpool would appear limited, but while Everton's owner, The Friedkin Group, will make a sizeable budget available, Moyes will have to carefully allocate resources to bolster his squad.' Doak only cost £600,000 when joining from Celtic back in 2022 and so £25m to £30m would represent a momentous profit on the Scotland international.

Rangers' former kit partners ‘sign deal with historic club' weeks after Ibrox side drop brand from new jerseys

GETTING SHIRTY Rangers' former kit partners 'sign deal with historic club' weeks after Ibrox side drop brand from new jerseys RANGERS won't have Castore on their shirts from next season. But the upstart brand is reportedly going to feature on another historic club's jerseys for 2025/26. 2 Castore first linked up with Rangers in 2021 Credit: SNS 2 Next season's Rangers home top The Ibrox side are returning to Umbro as kit supplier after five controversial years with Castore. But it's not quite as simple as that because Castore have acquired Umbro's sub-licence, therefore meaning they are in charge of the distribution of Umbro kits in Europe. Indeed, Gers quietly extended their deal with Castore in February 2023 for a further seven years. What is for certain however is that Rangers will not be sporting the Castore logo and instead next season's strips - and potentially more going forward - will bear the Umbro trademarks. But the Castore brand will be appearing on the tops of Middlesbrough, reports suggest. According to FootyHeadlines and Boro Buzz, the Championship side will begin a partnership with Castore from the start of next season. Boro, the 11th oldest club in the EFL, formally announced they would be parting ways with Errea as a kit manufacturer back in March. The Teesside outfit were one of the founding members of the Premier League and will hope to return their next season after missing out on the play-offs this season. Boro lost their way in the play-off race around about the same time they lost Scotland wonderkid Ben Doak to injury. Doak, 19, will return to parent club Liverpool now that his loan deal at the Riverside has epxired. Rangers icon Paul Gascoigne makes surprise Match of the Day appearance as footie greats pay tribute to Gary Lineker Boro fans would no doubt love to see him back in North Yorkshire but Everton could make a shock bid to sign him from their Merseyside rivals in the summer. The former Celtic starlet has also attracted interest from newly-crowned FA Cup champions Crystal Palace. The newly-unveiled Rangers home kit for 2025/26 divided opinion initially while a leaked and as-yet-to-be-confirmed away top was met with a much poorer response from punters. Elsewhere, Celtic star Daizen Maeda is reportedly attracting interest from Turkish club Fenerbahce, a move that would see him link up with Jose Mourinho. Everton hold talks with Ipswich striker Delap and show interest in Liverpool winger Doak

Everton have held talks with Liam Delap over a summer move and are also interested in the Liverpool winger Ben Doak. Delap has a £30m release clause in his Ipswich contract after their relegation from the Premier League and is also wanted by Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle. David Moyes admits Everton are 'a bit behind the black ball' in the race for the 22-year-old but, unlike their rivals, could guarantee he would be their first-choice striker next season. The Everton manager said: 'We have had a chance to speak to him. He's spoken to three or four clubs and he's given us the opportunity to pitch our case. We're probably a little bit behind the black ball but you never know what happens.' Everton are also considering a move for Doak, who would be the first player to cross the city divide in that direction since Gary Ablett in 1992. Whether Everton would meet Liverpool's £30m valuation of the 19-year-old remains to be seen. Doak enjoyed a productive loan at Middlesbrough this season before sustaining a thigh injury that required surgery in January. He joined Liverpool from Celtic for a £600,000 compensation fee in 2022 and in January bids of £15m and £16m from Crystal Palace and Ipswich respectively were rejected. Jarrad Branthwaite will miss England's attempt to retain the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia next month through injury. The Everton defender sustained a hamstring injury in Sunday's win over Southampton and is facing a six-week layoff. Moyes, who confirmed Leighton Baines would remain part of his backroom team, said: 'The tournament would have been great for him but I think it's just going to come too quick for him. It will probably be the start of pre-season before we really get him back.'

Ulster's dismal season ends in same fashion with seven-try hammering in Edinburgh

And, unsurprisingly, it just wasn't enough as Edinburgh took what they needed from the game to reach the Play-Offs, pulling away in the second half when at least Ulster did manage to register some points, and a good try it was too from Jude Postlethwaite. As such, Ulster finished on quite a low, their fifth straight defeat in all competitions in a season which, thankfully, is now well and truly over. Darcy Graham, overlooked by the Lions, scored a hat-trick and Magnus Bradbury scored a brace as the Scots ended up with seven tries against Ulster's three. No way for Andrew Warwick and Kieran Treadwell to take their leave – never mind the uninvolved John Cooney, Alan O'Connor and Matty Rea – but once again an unsurprising reflection on Ulster's campaign. It was difficult enough this one. With nothing of substance to play for, Ulster had to try and get up for their final job of the season to not only try to sign off by dodging yet another defeat but also with a mind to boosting the chances of touring with Ireland over the summer. It wasn't the greatest of starts though. Even before the game had begun the in-form Jacob Stockdale pulled out of the side with Zac Ward coming in to take his place. Losing Nathan Doak on two minutes after taking a stray boot to the head and shipping a cut to his lip was then compounded by a high hit from Iain Henderson at a breakdown after Ulster had put some decent enough work together to reach Edinburgh's 22. David Shanahan, on for Doak, then had to scramble from a Ross Thompson kick into space as the hosts began to up the ante, though the subsequent lineout in Ulster's 22 saw the Scots overthrow. They rapidly did so again, allowing Ulster advance up the field only for Jack Murphy's dink through to be collected by Wes Goosen who ran infield, scorched Ulster's first up defence and then provided for Graham, who sprinted clear with ease to score. Thompson kicked the conversion and suddenly it was 7-0. That became 12-0 five minutes later when, off a penalty conceded by Warwick, Edinburgh went for the corner, this time winning the lineout and mauling With another penalty advantage again, skipper Bradbury easily got through the returned Doak and Murphy to make the line. Thompson, though, was wide with the extras. Ulster needed something and fast. Postlethwaite gave them it as well, his hit on Goosen leading to a penalty and giving Ulster access to the red zone, however Doak couldn't control the ball at the breakdown after a strong Cormac Izuchukwu drive. But they came back strongly and, after going for touch in Edinburgh's 22, the visitors broke through and after Kieran Treadwell came close, Ulster – on penalty advantage – went wide only for Graham to knock on Murphy's pass to Ward, who had earlier come close to dotting down. Referee Craig Evans opted to show Graham a yellow card and award a penalty try on 25 minutes. It then got even better for Ulster as Murphy's low kick through was bungled by Goosen and Werner Kok was on hand to collect and drive on to score. Murphy, though, missed from the angle but the scores were now level. Edinburgh wrenched the momentum back five minutes later when, off a scrum penalty, the Scots went for the corner and, though they didn't get their maul going, hooker Ewan Ashman went on an arcing run and beat Nick Timoney and two other defenders to score another soft try for the hosts. Thompson converted and the hosts now led 19-12 just as Graham returned. The opening half ended with Michael Lowry being stripped in Edinburgh's 22, Hamish Watson hoofing downfield and a scrambling Timoney trying but failing initially to find touch. There was a crazy start to the new half, Graham tapping a penalty and catching Ulster sleeping, Kok palming back a high kick and gifting Edinburgh possession, Timoney winning a turnover and Ward almost scoring at the other end but for Harry Paterson to get back. The home team needed to bring structure and pattern to the contest especially as they required a try bonus but were struggling to achieve this in a game top heavy with ebb and flow. They thought they had try number four on 49 minutes when James Lang hit Graham, only for Kok to get back and pull off a great try saving tackle in the corner. However, they went back for penalty advantage against Timoney but once more lost possession, allowing Ulster to ease the pressure, though only briefly as Watson and Jamie Ritchie put Lang in space and, though Doak got the ball into touch, Edinburgh stayed in the 22. Pierre Schoeman was held up by Timoney but on penalty advantage and from a tap-and-go Bradbury snatched the all-important bonus point try which Thompson converted. Not long afterwards it was try number five when Schoeman stretched through Henderson, with Thompson once again doing the necessary from the tee. Graham was then put in the clear only for it to be called back for a forward pass. Ulster then nearly fought their way towards their first points of the half but the ball was lost and then Lowry's pass to Izuchukwu out on the wing was called forward. With less than ten minutes remaining, Edinburgh lost the ball in Ulster's 22 and, from Kok's pass, Postlethwaite ran in from distance for the visitor's first points of the half. Aidan Morgan missed the conversion. However, two minutes later and with Ulster trying to force things, a Stuart McCloskey pass went loose and in a flash Graham had his second which was converted by Ben Healy to bring up the 40 points. The game ended with Graham running in for his hat-trick and Ulster couldn't wait to get off the field.
