The Los Angeles Dodgers earned a much needed win against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.
After losing four out of five games since the All-Star break, the Dodgers enjoyed a walk-off win courtesy of Freddie Freeman. But the problems plaguing another one of their superstars, shortstop Mookie Betts, have been growing worse.
Amid a harsh stomach bug, a freak toe injury and the move to a new defensive position this season, Betts is slashing a career-worst .238/.311/.373 so far. Those struggles prompted manager Dave Roberts to move Betts to the leadoff spot in a dramatic solution to the problem, but after Wednesday's game, it's clear that hasn't helped.
"I think he's still not right mechanically, clearly," Roberts said after the game, per Dodgers Blue.

And as Betts' struggles at the plate persist, the Dodgers have announced a setback in his efforts to hit through the problems. He could miss the Dodgers' next game against his former team, the Boston Red Sox, on Friday.
"I know there's some things going on personally for him, so I've got to talk to him," Roberts said, according to Dodgers Blue. "We'll see if he's going to be there for the Friday game. ... There might be some things going on that he might not be around, that he's got to deal with personally. But everything's OK with him, so we'll see."
A variety of fix attempts haven't seemed to help Betts, who has three hits and four strikeouts since the All-Star break. And now a mysterious personal issue threatens to derail whatever progress moving to the leadoff spot might have generated.
Hopefully for Dodgers fans, though, Betts will be able to return after another short break and contribute to a World Series return.
