Free meals, option to log out: Dubai delivery riders get time off during iftar

For CareemFood Captain Abdul Rahman, Ramadan holds a special place. A delivery rider for nearly seven years, he hasn't had the chance to break fast with his family during the holy month. He is, however, "grateful that he gets to take time off for iftar". Abdul Rahman was referring to Careem allowing its delivery riders to pause work for iftar if they are fasting. The delivery rider breaks his fast at a mosque — with colleagues or alone. 'It's important to take that break and reflect.' According to a report by Ipsos UAE, food delivery sees a 20 per cent increase in orders during Ramadan. As the orders increase around iftar time, some companies have launched initiatives to ensure their riders also get time to break their fast. Stay up to date with the latest news. We give our captains the freedom to manage their own schedules so they can pause work during iftar if they are fasting or continue working if they are not. As a gesture of appreciation, Careem colleagues in the UAE and Jordan are organising iftars three times a week for our captains,' Jaskaran Singh, VP of Careem Food, told Khaleej Times. Other delivery companies in the UAE are also adopting similar measures, ensuring well-being of riders. Deliveroo, an online food delivery company, is focused on supporting its riders during Ramadan, recognising the adjustments they make during this period. "This is a time of devotion, and we admire our riders who fast while on duty. They can break their fast at their convenience and log out for iftar,' said a Deliveroo spokesperson. The company encourages riders to visit its 'Roo Vans' and Edition Sites, where they can pick up complimentary iftar meals and special Ramadan gift boxes. 'Our restaurant partners have generously contributed thousands of free or discounted meals for our riders throughout Ramadan.' Industry support Various restaurants are also stepping up to aid delivery drivers. Dodo Pizza UAE has launched its annual Ramadan charity campaign, pledging over 3,000 iftar boxes for its delivery drivers. These boxes include wraps, dates, and water. 'This Ramadan, we wanted to create something meaningful that embodies the spirit of generosity and gratitude,' said Walid Yehya, Dodo Pizza's UAE Operational Director. 'Delivery drivers are the backbone of our business. They make life easier for everyone, and this initiative is our way of showing appreciation for their hard work.' Another restaurant, Aminia Restaurant in Al Karama, is providing complimentary Iftar food packs for delivery riders throughout Ramadan from 5 pm to 6:30 pm daily. Riders can pick up boxes of iftar which contain a sumptuous, freshly prepared meal designed to provide the hydration and sustenance they need to continue their demanding shifts. The restaurant anticipates distributing at least 1,000 Iftar boxes during the month, with the capacity to accommodate more riders if needed. Speaking on the initiative, Kabir Azhar and Asher Azhar, Directors of Aminia, emphasized that Ramadan is one of the busiest times of the year for the food industry, with delivery riders often struggling to find time to break their fast as they work to ensure timely meal deliveries for others. They highlighted that this initiative aims to provide riders with a moment of relief and a nourishing meal, acknowledging their hard work and dedication throughout the holy month.

Dodo Pizza UAE to Provide over 3000 Iftar boxes this Ramadan

To address this challenge, Dodo Pizza UAE has announced its annual Ramadan charity campaign to support them during this demanding period. All its delivery drivers will receive an Iftar box, to distribute over 3000 boxes. Dodo Pizza UAE launched its charitable Ramadan Campaign, dedicated to the holy month of Ramadan – a season for acts of kindness and community support. Staying true to its values, the company pledges to donate an Iftar box (consisting of a unique wrap Dodster, date, and water) to its delivery drivers. Many work tirelessly to bring meals to families gathering for Iftar, often breaking their fast on the go. During this busy time, when the demand for food delivery surges, providing drivers with a proper meal helps them stay energised and focused, allowing them to continue their work safely and efficiently. To encourage customers to support the initiative, a limited-edition Moon Pizza was created specially for Ramadan. This pizza embodies the spirit of generosity and sharing. The choice of pizza for this special edition was no coincidence — research conducted by Dodo in collaboration with YouGov reveals that pizza is the most favoured fast food category in the UAE, with 40% of consumers opting for it. Furthermore, pizza maintains consistent demand across all age groups, exhibiting only a 3% variation. It remains the top choice for married couples with children, making it a universally loved and inclusive option for this special edition. It is equally loved by Emiratis (41%), Asians (41%), and Arab expatriates (43%), making it a universally appealing choice. Additionally, for working professionals, pizza is one of the most frequently ordered meals, bolstering its reputation as a go-to comfort food. Considering its widespread popularity and ability to unite people, Moon Pizza was the perfect choice for Ramadan. The proceeds from the sale will also go to support delivery drivers: for every Moon Pizza sold, one Iftar box will be donated. As a gesture of gratitude for the kindness and support, every client who purchases a Moon Pizza can win a real Star. The Star's real name will be registered in the European commercial star registry. Weekly draws will be held throughout Ramadan, offering opportunities to win one of 4 stars. All Moon Pizza buyers will also receive a complimentary Stargazing Guide featuring top locations in the UAE, such as the Lahbab Desert or Hatta Mountains. This initiative is part of Dodo Pizza's annual Ramadan campaign, which made an impactful debut last year. In 2024, 703 Iftar boxes were distributed while the company had just one location. With eleven pizzerias across Dubai, Dodo Pizza aims to provide over 3000 Iftar boxes for delivery drivers, underscoring the brand's rapid expansion and steadfast commitment. 'This Ramadan, we wanted to create something meaningful that embodies the spirit of generosity and gratitude,' said Walid Yehya, Dodo Pizza UAE Operational Director. 'Delivery drivers are the backbone of our business. They make life easier for everyone, and this initiative is our way of showing appreciation for their hard work.' Dodo Pizza UAE also encourages other F&B businesses to support delivery drivers during the holy month by offering refreshments or meals at Iftar time. Ramadan sees a significant rise in food delivery, with at least 29% of Emiratis planning to utilise food delivery services during this period. This surge in demand places additional pressure on delivery drivers, who must manage higher volumes of orders while adhering to the scheduling challenges posed by fasting hours. Supporting them not only aids in their well-being but also enhances service efficiency and customer satisfaction during this vital period. News Source: PR Hub

Dodo Pizza supports delivery riders with the moon, customers with a star

During Ramadan, food delivery and online shopping increase by at least 20 per cent, which puts additional pressure on delivery drivers. Also, many of these superheroes without capes, who work tirelessly to bring meals to families gathering for iftar, often break their fast on the go. Dodo Pizza UAE has come up with an initiative to address this reality. The brand has brought back its Ramadan campaign to support delivery drivers during this demanding period – and is offering its customers the opportunity to align with its brand values, as well. Dodo Pizza UAE is cooking up limited-edition Moon Pizzas during Ramadan – available on its seasonal menu. For every Moon Pizza sold, Dodo Pizza UAE has pledged to donate one iftar box to a delivery driver. The brand aims to distributing more than 3,000 boxes through the Holy Month. Bringing the crescent moon and the star to life during Ramadan To further incentivise customers to support the initiative of offering iftar meals to delivery riders, Dodo Pizza will also be conducting a giveaway. Weekly draws will be held throughout Ramadan, offering opportunities to customers who order the Moon Pizza to have actual star on the European commercial star registry named after them. A weekly draw through the 28-day Holy Month means that four separate stars have been set aside for each week of the month. All Moon Pizza buyers will also receive a complimentary Stargazing Guide featuring top locations in the UAE, such as the Lahbab Desert or Hatta Mountains. 'As part of our key brand messaging, we're offering more than just a product during Ramadan. With Moon Pizza, our support for delivery riders, and unique customer engagement, we want to show that our brand cares about the community and celebrates the spirit of giving, generosity and togetherness during this special time,' Yehya said. Alluding to going bigger in 2025, he added, 'This year, with eleven pizzerias across Dubai, Dodo Pizza aims to provide more than 3,000 iftar boxes to delivery drivers.' Commenting on the effectiveness of this marketing approach, Yehya said, 'Targeted ads for these events have already set record-low acquisition costs.' He concluded, 'Through this campaign, we're reaching both the Muslim community and a wider audience, hoping to gain insights on how purpose-driven offerings resonate and engage consumers beyond typical promotions.'
