Dog the Bounty Hunter's ‘heavily sedated' stepson placed on psych hold after killing his only child in ‘tragic accident'

Duane 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' Chapman's stepson Gregory Zecca has been placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold after 'accidentally' shooting and killing his 13-year-old son, Anthony Zecca. Greg is being monitored because he is so devastated by the loss of his only son that there are concerns he may try taking his life, a rep for the family told TMZ Tuesday. The rep made sure to note that the psych hold has nothing to do with Greg feeling guilty of a crime. The outlet reported that Greg has not been able to speak to family members or cops yet because he is heavily sedated. Page Six has reached out for comment Greg fatally shot Anthony in their Naples, Fla., apartment on Saturday night. According to the police report, the teen had an entry wound on his neck, just above his sternum, and no exit wound. Law enforcement told TMZ that Anthony had lost a ton of blood by the time they arrived. They performed CPR and other life-saving measures, including chest compressions, but he was pronounced dead just over two hours later. The firearm used in the fatal shooting was on the kitchen island when deputies arrived, per the police report. While no arrests have been made, an investigation remains ongoing. Greg is the son of Dog's wife, Francie Frane, whom he married in September 2021. 'We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony,' they said in a statement. After news of the tragedy broke, social media users resurfaced photos of Greg and Anthony at a shooting range. 'Getting some range time in with our buddies @franktownfirearms,' Greg told his followers at the time. He and Anthony were all smiles as they posed with guns and practiced shooting them.

Dog the Bounty Hunter's stepson on psychiatric hold after ‘killing son in accidental shooting'

Dog the Bounty Hunter's stepson, Gregory Zecca, has reportedly been put on a psychiatric hold after he shot and killed his own 13-year-old son in what is being described as a "freak accident." The individuals representing the family told TMZ that the hold was for Zecca's protection, as there is reportedly some fear that he may try to hurt himself in his grief. The representatives also noted that his current state is grief from losing his son, and not an admission of guilt related to the shooting. No charges have been brought against anyone involved as of this report. Zecca reportedly has not been able to speak with his family or the police because he has been heavily sedated after the shooting. Under Florida's Baker Act — also called the Florida Mental Health Act — people exhibiting serious signs of mental illness or who are acting in ways that indicate they could be a threat to themselves or others can be placed under an involuntary medical hold, though it is unclear if Zecca's hold is voluntary or involuntary. The shooting occurred at Zecca's apartment in Naples, Florida on Saturday evening. According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, Anthony — Zecca's son — was shot in his neck, just above his sternum. Deputies were dispatched to the apartment around 8:08 pm local time. Anthony was pronounced dead at 8:21 pm the same evening. The firearm involved in the deadly shooting was sitting on the family's kitchen island. Zecca, who works with his stepfather, Duane Chapman — also known as Dog the Bounty Hunter — is a noted gun enthusiast, and would take Anthony to gun ranges, often posting photos on Instagram, according to the New York Post. Chapman and his sixth wife, Francie — Zecca's mother — issued a joint statement following Anthony's death. "We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony," the couple said. The Collier County Sheriff's Office told The Daily Mail that an investigation is ongoing, and that the tragic event was an "isolated incident." According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, unintentional injury is a leading cause of death among U.S. children between the ages of 0 and 17, and firearms are a leading cause of such injuries, second only to motor vehicle accidents. Approximately half of unintentional firearm injury deaths that affect children happen at their homes when guns are not properly locked away.

Dog the Bounty Hunter's stepson on psych hold after shooting son

Dog the Bounty Hunter's stepson, Gregory Zecca, who fatally shot his 13-year-old son in a 'freak accident' at their Florida home Saturday, is on a psychiatric hold amid fears he could take his own life. Zecca, who has been heavily sedated since the tragedy, is on a 5150 hold as he reckons with the death of 13-year-old Anthony, a family representative told TMZ Monday. The rep clarified that Zecca's feared state of mind is not due to guilt after Anthony was fatally shot in the neck at their Naples home — for which no arrests have been made — but grief. 'We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony,' the family of Duane 'Dog' Chapman previously told TMZ. The outlet previously reported that Zecca — whose social media appears to have been deactivated — works with his stepdad's bounty hunting enterprise. Zecca's mother, Francie Chapman, wed 72-year-old Dog in 2021.
