Kneecap to Perform at 2025 Glastonbury Festival Despite Calls to Drop Band
The controversial Belfast rap band Kneecap will still appear at the 2025 Glastonbury music festival in the U.K., organizers announced Tuesday. Kneecap keeping its Glastonbury billing by performing on the West Holts Stage on June 28 follows political pressure to drop the band after one of its members, Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh, was charged with a terror offense in the U.K. after an incident on Nov. 21 at a venue in north London. Ó Dochartaigh, has drawn widespread criticism and the attention of the Metropolitan Police after online videos showed the band allegedly calling for the death of British parliament ministers, as well as chanting 'up Hamas, up Hezbollah.' It is illegal in the U.K. to express support for Hezbollah as it is considered a terrorist organization in Britain. And in April, Kneecap displayed political messages about the ongoing war in Gaza during the group's Coachella set, after which a number of Kneecap concerts in Germany were canceled. Kneecap, responding to the criticism, apologized to the families of murdered members of Parliament and claimed they have faced 'deliberate distortions and falsehoods.' The band also denied they have ever supported Hamas or Hezbollah. While Glastonbury has retained Kneecap on their billing, the band was dropped from Scotland's TRNSMT festival for a July 11 concert over police concerns for safety. 'Due to concerns expressed by the Police about safety at the event, Kneecap can no longer perform at TRNSMT,' the rap group said on X. Kneecap also announced a replacement concert at the O2 Academy in Glasgow for July 8, which has already sold out. Glastonbury, set to run June 25 to 29 at Worthy Farm, Somerset, gets extensive play on the BBC's radio and TV services. Animated Werewolf Movie ‘Dog of God' Debuts Wild Trailer With Hitler Look-Alike Getting Tortured (Exclusive)
The eye-popping trailer for animated feature Dog of God has debuted ahead of the film's Tribeca Festival premiere. Lauris Abele and Raitis Abele directed the movie from a script they co-wrote with Ivo Briedis and Harijs Grundmanis. Media Move is handling global sales on the film that began screening at the Cannes market last month, when ESC Films acquired French rights for the project ahead of a planned release later this year. More from The Hollywood Reporter Kneecap to Perform at 2025 Glastonbury Festival Despite Calls to Drop Band Jake Dunn Is Fiercely Protective of BBC Trans Drama 'What It Feels Like for a Girl' Nicole Clemens Hired to Head Amazon MGM's International Originals Created with rotoscope animation, Dog of God is set in the 17th century and focuses on a woman accused of witchcraft and how her trial uncovers the existence of a werewolf. The footage includes a scene in which a Hitler look-alike is tortured. Jurgis Spulenieks, Kristians Karelins, Einars Repse, Agate Krista, Regnars Vaivars and Armands Bergis round out the voice cast for the Latvian production. Producing the film are Raitis Abele for Tritone Studio and Kristele Pudane, while Giovanni Labadessa is a co-producer. The trailer is below, but be warned, it is somewhat graphic. 'Dog of God was a strange and intense experience — even in the making, it often felt like we were chasing something wild and unknowable,' Lauris Abele and Raitis Abele say in a statement. 'Now that the film is complete, we're grateful to hand it over to Media Move and watch it begin its own journey. It's a bit like childhood — when you release something precious into a flowing river, unsure where it will end up, but knowing it no longer belongs only to you.' Adds Media Move's Justyna Koronkiewicz, 'Over the last couple years, I've seen and handled quite a lot of unique genre films, and it's getting harder to stand out in horror — yet Dog of God managed to do that and so much more. I — and every genre fan I discuss it with — are in awe with the atmosphere, theme and the animation itself. Tribeca and the genre festivals that will follow are only the final confirmation of the film's appeal. I am thrilled to help these super talented filmmakers bring it to international audiences worldwide.' Koronkiewicz handled the French rights deal for Media Move, while Eric Saquet represented ESC Films. Dog of God is set to premiere at Tribeca on Friday. Death of 'Grassroots' Live, Electronic Music Venues Gets U.K. Parliament Review: SXSW London
The death of 'grassroots' live and electronic music venues in Britain will be the focus of a new review to be conducted by a committee of the U.K. parliament's House of Commons, unveiled at SXSW London on Wednesday. The review was announced by Culture, Media and Sport Committee chair Caroline Dinenage at the inaugural London edition of the popular festival. The goals are supporting 'a thriving grassroots music scene and building a sustainable talent pipeline that ensures the U.K. music industry remains one of the U.K.'s global success stories.' More from The Hollywood Reporter 'Thus Spoke the Wind' Trailer Hints at a Vivid, Metaphysical Ride in the Armenian Drama (Exclusive) Animated Werewolf Movie 'Dog of God' Debuts Wild Trailer With Hitler Look-Alike Getting Tortured (Exclusive) GKids Acquires Japanese Anime 'ChaO' for North America (Exclusive) A review of the challenges and possible solutions was one of the recommendations highlighted by a committee report on grassroots music venues that was published during the last parliamentary term. 'Encompassing all aspects of live and electronic music, the review will be chaired by Lord Brennan of Canton, … with the aim of bringing music lovers together to discuss ideas and policies to protect the industry and ensure it works in the best interests of fans,' the committee said in a statement. The previous report 'amplified concerns by venue operators, touring artists and independent promoters regarding the financial precarity of the grassroots music sector, with venues shutting at the rate of two a week.' The review will consider 'the music fan experience, from the provision of live and electronic music through to considerations of safety, examine the sustainability of venues, and explore the barriers to touring faced by emerging artists,' the committee highlighted. 'It will also look at the effectiveness of existing policies and how different levels of government support live music.' Dinenage, a member of parliament for the Conservative Party, argued that the governing Labour Party needed to do more to support grassroots music. 'Despite some headway being made on an industry-led levy to support grassroots music, venues are still shutting their doors at an alarming rate, while the government continues to stick its fingers in its ears when it comes to calls for a fan-led review,' she said. 'It's time to put the power in the hands of those who truly understand and love live and electronic music – the fans, artists, DJs and festival goers, as well as those who work behind the scenes.' The previous committee report found that of the 148 grassroots music venues lost in 2023, approximately 22 percent closed due to operational issues, such as the revocation of premises licences or unachievable license renewal terms. Around 12 percent shut down due to eviction or redevelopment. 'Small music venues and nightclubs are already under immense pressure, and the current planning system is only adding to their burden,' said Dinenage. 'Requiring local authorities to properly consider existing venues when approving new developments would be a game-changer. It would help protect the live music ecosystem and give these vital cultural spaces a real chance to survive and thrive.' Jacob Elordi & Lily-Rose Depp To Star In Cormac McCarthy Adaptation ‘Outer Dark' — Red Hot Project Bubbling At The Cannes Market
EXCLUSIVE: Here's a very cool project bubbling at this year's Cannes market. We can reveal that Jacob Elordi and Lily-Rose Depp, two of the industry's buzziest young names, are set to star in Outer Dark, a film based on iconic author Cormac McCarthy's (No Country For Old Men) dark 1968 novel. More from Deadline Tribeca Title 'Dog of God' Acquired For France As Media Move Launches Sales - Cannes Market 'Dossier 137' Director On Cannes Ban Of His Film's Actor Accused Of Sexual Assault: "I Understand Their Decision" International Insider: Cruise In Cannes; Standing Ovations; Chinese Box Office Future The 'dark fairytale', which is being lined up to shoot in 2026, will mark the English-language debut of Oscar-winning Son Of Saul filmmaker Laszlo Nemes. Outer Dark is set in Appalachia during the Great Depression and tells of a young woman who bears her brother's baby. The brother leaves the nameless infant in the woods to die, but tells his sister that the newborn died of natural causes and had to be buried. The sister discovers this lie and sets out to find the baby for herself. But as both brother and sister separately move through the countryside, three terrifying strangers are on their tails, wreaking death and destruction wherever they appear. Nemes wrote the screenplay with Clara Royer, while Mike Goodridge of London-based Good Chaos is producing alongside Nemes; executive producers are Ilene Feldman, Ori Eisen of Original Films and Nicolas Gonda. Good Chaos and Nemes have the book-to-screen rights. Goodridge, the Triangle Of Sadness co-producer who has Left-Handed Girl playing at this year's festival, is among the team on the ground in Cannes in early talks with potential partners for the project. It's not formally on sale here but there are likely to be plenty of suitors to finance or get behind it. We understand the actors really sparked to the material and both are coming off big successes. It's fitting stuff for both: Depp is coming off Oscar-nominated box office hit Nosferatu, another dark fairytale, while Euphoria and Priscilla star Elordi is coming off excellent notices for The Narrow Road To The Deep North and will next be seen as the creature in Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein, as Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights and in Ridley Scott's Dog Stars, which is in production. Laszlo Nemes said: 'Since reading Outer Dark the first time, it has been my dream to make it into a film, and to find the appropriate cinematic language that would do justice to Cormac McCarthy's evocative and cosmological work. Joined by two magnetic actors, I now feel it's possible. The extraordinary source material is a profound inspiration to build a unique world that vibrates with life and death at the same time. An exciting road-movie, a terrible and beautiful journey into the labyrinth of the human soul – this is the ambition I have for Outer Dark.' Nemes recently completed his third film Orphan (also produced by Goodridge) which is scheduled to premiere at a festival later this year before its October 23 release in Hungary. He will next shoot Moulin, a French-language feature about WWII resistance fighter Jean Moulin which is being sold at the Cannes market by 193. Gilles Lellouche and Lars Eidinger are starring for producer Alain Goldman. Alongside Orphan, Goodridge is also in post-production on Edward Berger's next film, The Ballad Of A Small Player, starring Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton. Cormac McCarthy's lauded novels adapted for the screen include Oscar winner No Country For Old Men and Viggo Mortensen starrer The Road. Elordi is repped by Gersh and Goodman, Genow. Depp is repped by CAA, Markham, Froggatt & Irwin, Agence Adequat, and Lichter, Grossman. Nemes is represented by CAA and Ilene Feldman Management.
