Dolly's opens third Cincinnati-area restaurant in former Frisch's Big Boy in Colerain
Dolly's Burgers & Shakes is set to open its third Cincinnati-area location on Thursday at a former Frisch's Big Boy in Colerain Township, according to the new restaurant concept's Michigan-based owner. The diner restaurant, located at 9830 Colerain Ave., will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., said Southfield, Michigan-based Big Boy Restaurant Group. The latest opening comes after the company reopened former Frisch's in Blue Ash and Anderson Township in early March. The company has also reopened former Frisch's in Miamisburg and Troy near Dayton in the last month. 'Cincinnati has welcomed us with open arms, and we're excited to keep the momentum going,' said Big Boy CEO Tamer Afr, in a statement. Big Boy is in the midst of a legal battle with Frisch's over the right to use the Big Boy name in Cincinnati. In the meantime, it's using the 'working title' of Dolly's Burgers & Shakes, inspired by the name of Big Boy's girlfriend in comic books once published by the chain. Last month, Big Boy disclosed plans to reopen 55 former Frisch's by June 1. The company is currently hiring at nine other former Frisch's locations in Greater Cincinnati, according to its job postings website. Big Boy decided to move into Greater Cincinnati after the shuttering of more than 60 Frisch's diners. Frisch's former landlord, Orlando-based NNN Reit, said in court filings that Frisch's owed it more than $4.5 million in back rent. Frisch's, which had more than 80 locations in three states in early 2024, now has just over 30. Big Boy officials said they began talks to take over old Frisch's locations in October after NNN Reit began evicting Frisch's.
