NSO starts domestic tourism expenditure and national household travel surveys in hubballi
Hubballi: The National Statistical Office (NSO), regional office Hubli, working under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, GOI, started two new surveys, namely, the Domestic Tourism Expenditure Survey (DTES) and the National Household Travel Survey (NHTS).
These were held at the National Statistical Office in Hubballi on Monday.
Inaugurating the session, Hareeswaarn K, director, NSO, Hubballi region, spoke on the importance of understanding the concepts and definitions of the survey uniformly by all field staff. This is a major factor that decides the success of the survey and depends largely on the quality of data. The National Statistical Office will conduct the first dedicated Domestic Tourism Expenditure and National Household Travel Survey (NSTS) in India from July 2025 to June 2026.
Based on the requirements of the ministry of railway, the survey aims to collect information on where, when, and why people travel, which is critical for making informed decisions on infrastructure projects and public transportation systems. The survey will provide critical data for understanding and improving the transportation system, aiding in policy developments and infrastructure planning.
Assistant director Mohan Karjol, senior statistical officer I I Karisiddimath, deputy director Madevappa, assistant director N N Kamble, senior statistical officer Pramod V Pandit, and others were present.
