Elton John Says He and Chappell Roan FaceTime Often: I ‘Just Fell in Love with Her'

Elton John is always there for Chappell Roan! During an interview with the U.K.-based online publication Them published on Thursday, March 5, the British music icon revealed he's in 'awe' of the 27-year-old 'HOT TO GO!' singer — and also shared that they FaceTime. 'I first heard of 'Pink Pony Club' and I played it on my [Apple Music show] 'Rocket Hour' about three years ago,' John, 77, said during the interview. He added: 'Then I started to FaceTime her personally and just fell in love with her. I loved who she was, what she talked about, how brave she was, her story. I love her bravery and the fact she's not scared to speak out and she won't do something if she doesn't want to.' 'It is not all about doing this and doing that and going where you're supposed to. If you haven't got the energy and it is taking your creative juices away, don't do it. She's not afraid to say that, and I love her for that,' he continued. Elton John attends annual Oscars viewing party, duets with Chappell Roan

Other stars in attendance included Camila Cabello, Megan Thee Stallion, Hozier, Walton Goggins, Elizabeth Hurley, Zoey Deschanel and her fiance, HGTV's Jonathan Scott. Advertisement One noticeably absent couple was New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his wife, Dana Blumberg, who are staples at the annual event. Much of the buzz at Sunday's party was about musical guest Chappell Roan, one of pop's biggest stars, and whether she and John would perform together. Much to the delight of those in attendance, they did. After Roan, 27, performed several songs – including a moving rendition of John's 1970 ballad 'Your Song,' the piano man joined her on stage for his 1974 anthem 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me' and her hit 'Pink Pony Club.' 'I think every single person here knows that he has done so much fundraising and awareness-raising for the causes that every single person in this room holds very dear,' said Hurley, 59, who attended the event with her 22-year-old son, Damian, an actor and model (John and Furnish are his godparents). 'To support this incredible performer and incredible humanitarian and this cause that he's dedicated his life to means everything to me,' said Goggins, 53, who is currently starring in the new season of HBO's 'The White Lotus.' Elton John and Chappell Roan did 'Pink Pony Club' duet for Oscars party AIDS charity event

Midwest princess Chappell Roan shared the stage with pop music icon Sir Elton John as the two performed at his annual Oscars viewing party on Sunday night. John hosts an Academy Awards Viewing Party for his AIDS Foundation every year and this year's included Roan as his special guest. The "Tiny Dancer" singer was pulling double duty on Sunday night, as he was also nominated for best original song at the award show. Roan performed a few songs, including her own "Hot To Go" and a cover of John's "Your Song," before the two musicians did a duet of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me." Just before the night ended, Roan gave John a pink cowboy hat and expressed her gratitude to the elder statesman of pop. "You have sacrificed so much for the queer community and you made it so I can be the artist I can be," Roan said, according to video from the night. "So thank you so much." The two then closed out the show with Roan's hit song "Pink Pony Club," where John joined in at the choruses and danced on stage with his pink hat. John shared a clip of their "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" duet to his Instagram and called it "nothing short of magical." "For one night, we transformed West Hollywood Park into our own Pink Pony Club — a space filled with love and community, where everyone can be unapologetically themselves," John wrote. The event raised more than $8.6 million, according to the Elton John Aids Foundation. David Furnish, John's husband and chair of the foundation, called it an unforgettable night and thanked all of the participants and donors in a statement. "Because of your generosity, we were able to celebrate with purpose, helping communities around the world access life-saving HIV prevention, treatment, and mental health support," Furnish wrote. Video of their performances, especially the "Pink Pony Club" duet, circulated across social media platforms overnight. Fans described it as an emotional moment as two artists in the LGBTQ community from different generations joyfully came together for the cause. "the way he's watching her with so much pride like yeah dude you helped pave the way for this can't imagine how emotional he must feel," one person wrote in a TikTok comment.
