Fleetwood Mac Rank Among Today's Hottest Stars With A Vinyl Bestseller

The first quarter of 2025 is in the books, which means it's time to start taking stock of the year's biggest music successes — at least so far. In the United Kingdom, the Official Charts Company has compiled a list of the 40 bestselling vinyl albums in the country, and many of the top spots go to current pop stars and beloved rock acts. Taylor Swift, Sam Fender, and Lady Gaga are all well-represented near the top, which is exactly what someone who watches that sector of the business might expect. But there's one name included inside the top 10 that stands apart, and it's not a new release. Fleetwood Mac's Rumours doesn't just make the cut, it rockets in at No. 8 on the tally, showing once again that the project might just be the most successful vinyl title in modern history. The record has been a mainstay on bestseller lists for years, and somehow, even after countless reissues and decades of consistent sales, fans are still snapping it up in droves. It's the only catalogue title to break into the top 10 on the U.K.'s list of bestselling vinyl albums this year. That makes its presence even more impressive, especially when surrounded by hot new releases. Fender leads the ranking with his People Watching, while Chappell Roan, Gaga, and Sabrina Carpenter — all female pop favorites with devoted fan bases — claim spots inside the highest half the upper tier. Swift, who has made vinyl a key part of her marketing and fan engagement strategy, also naturally earns a space near the front of the pack, as well as several on the entire roster. Despite being more than 45 years old, Rumours is still performing incredibly well across the pond. In fact, it shows up on half a dozen separate rankings in the U.K. this frame alone. It's currently present inside the top 40 on nearly all of them, with vinyl sales leading the charge. Right now, Rumours sits at No. 19 on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, making it one of the oldest entries on that list. Fleetwood Mac released Rumours in 1977, and it quickly became both a critical and commercial juggernaut. The project spun off some of the band's most iconic singles, including 'Go Your Own Way,' 'Don't Stop,' and 'Dreams,' each of which helped define an era of pop rock. Widely regarded as one of the greatest albums ever made, the full-length has managed an incredibly rare longevity, as it's still hugely popular to this day.

Biblioracle: ‘Fleetwood Mac All the Songs' is my kind of coffee table book

When I found out that there is a 608-page book weighing in at over five pounds titled 'Fleetwood Mac All the Songs: The Story Behind Every Track,' I knew I had to get my hands on a copy and see what's doing. It's not that I'm anything more than an average (or slightly above) Fleetwood Mac fan. Like everyone else, I'm well-versed in the 'Rumours'-era mega-hits like 'Don't Stop' and 'The Chain,' and I even have some passing knowledge of their pre-Buckingham/Nicks incarnation as a heavy blues outfit led by Peter Green, but that's about it. Sure, I've watched the 'Classic Albums: Rumours' episode three or four times, relishing the story of how interpersonal drama mixed with drug use and alcohol abuse was turned into one of the greatest albums of all time, but who doesn't like a story that's both a train wreck and something like the opposite? When 'Fleetwood Mac All the Songs,' was delivered to my doorstep, the thumping noise scared the dogs, and when I opened the box and saw the book inside, it was love at first sight. This is my kind of coffee table book, and if you're at all interested in the ins and outs of a band — even if you're not a huge Fleetwood Mac fan — I think you will find it fascinating. Produced by two French music journalists, Olivier Roubin and Romuald Ollivier, the book delivers on the promise of its title. It truly breaks down every song by Fleetwood Mac, starting with its blue-rock origins, moving through a middle period where they were led by singer-songwriter-guitarists Bob Welch and Danny Kirwan, on through the mega-act years, and even beyond into some Fleetwood Mac incarnations I didn't know existed and that members of the band would maybe prefer to forget. But not Roubin and Ollivier. They forget nothing. Each song is broken down in terms of origins, songwriting and production, plus frequent trivia tidbits that were often my favorite parts. For example, I discovered that 'Second Hand News,' a favorite somewhat lesser-known track from 'Rumours' has a rhythm pattern borrowed from The Bee Gees, and the percussion is augmented by Lindsey Buckingham pounding on a Naugahyde chair with a pair of sticks. Maybe that's not interesting to you, but there's a real pleasure to learning these things, and going back to the music and listening with more attentive ears to see what you can now hear. In addition to the breakdown of each song and album, the authors include profiles of all of the band members over the years, and also of the producers, engineers and others who worked with Fleetwood Mac. Mini-essays work through the big events in the band's history, the tours, the drama, the break-ups. There was absolutely no culling process in terms of what was included in the book. Everything is present. It would be ridiculous to claim that I've read the entire book. I haven't even come close. It's 608 pages! But after initially going through the material I was most familiar with, I turned back to the beginning of the Peter Green-era and started reading along as I listened to music I'd been aware of, but never really, truly heard. It's been both fun and instructive. Deep down, I think I just appreciate a truly obsessive project like this. I can't imagine the depth of dedication it would take to pull this book together. It seems like a lifetime of work in and of itself. This is a book that would make a great gift for the right person, and you probably all know one right person. Fleetwood Mac Star Christine McVie's London Penthouse Hits the Market

In 2014, Christine McVie, best known as the keyboardist for Fleetwood Mac, rejoined the band for its reunion world tour. At the time, McVie—who wrote some of the band's biggest hits, including Don't Stop and You Make Loving Fun— owned a 19-acre Tudor property in the Kent countryside, according to her former manager Martin Wyatt, who's now the executor of her estate. 'When she first moved back to England from LA, she was desperate to be in the country. She clearly wanted the Hunter Boots and Barbour coats and Range Rover—the classic English country life situation,' says Wyatt of his close friend, who died in 2022. But McVie eventually missed the buzz of the big city, and going back on tour made her want to have a home base in the capital again, he says.
