Kyogo had it 'easy' at Celtic but Birmingham will be different as SPFL sceptic doubles down after Aasgaard claim

Don Goodman has already told Rangers' latest signing it's not a step up from Luton now Celtic are i the firing line Don Goodman has told Kyogo he had it "easy" at Celtic and has warned the Japanese it will be tougher to score goals for Birmingham City. ‌ The striker left Parkhead in January in a £10million switch to Rennes, but his stint in Ligue 1 was a disaster with Kyogo spending most of his time either on the bench or not in the squad before cutting his losses and joining Blues for the same fee this summer. ‌ Chris Davies' ambitious side won the League One title at a canter last year and have been backed by many to push for Premier League promotion given the financial backing in place from their American owners SCL, who include NFK legend Tom Brady. ‌ Goodman reckons Kyogo is a smart buy by Birmingham, but dismissively claimed that scoring was a simple task when playing for the Scottish Premiership champions, insisting that the goals won't come as easily in the English Championship. The former Motherwell star's comments come just days after he told new Rangers signing Thelo Aasgaard that his switch from Luton Town to Ibrox wasn't a step up, and his latest take is unlikely to win him any friends north of the border either. "Kyogo Furuhashi is an excellent signing," Goodman told talkSPORTBET. "He's an excellent player. There's no doubt about that. He's going to be a handful that could really hurt Championship defences, but he can't win promotion on his own. He's going to need all the other areas of the team to function really and to provide him with opportunities. 'I've already alluded to the SPFL. When you play for Celtic in the SPFL, invariably you dominate games, you're going to be winning games, getting chances and in most of the games you can have it relatively easy. 'That won't be the case for him at Birmingham so they'll have to work at it but they have recruited a really really good player and a player with a work ethic that the fans will love. The fans are going to absolutely love watching him. ‌ 'Kyogo is a player with hunger and a desire - he's going to be an absolute handful for Championship defences this year.' 'Match made'- Sky Sports pundit says Still makes Saints promotion favourites

Saints manager Will Still has never taken charge of a side in England before (Image: Matt Watson / Southampton FC) SKY Sports pundit and EFL expert Don Goodman labelled the Saints hire of Will Still as a "match made in heaven" ahead of the new season. Former West Brom, Wolves and Sunderland ace Goodman, 59, believes Saints are certain to be competing at the top of the Championship table. Advertisement Still, only 32 years old and taking his first job in English football, arrives at St Mary's with a strong reputation for his work done in France's Ligue 1. He improved on his league finish in three successive seasons with two clubs, having been appointed as the youngest manager in Europe in 2022. Still has overseen pre-season friendly wins against Eastleigh and Gillingham so far at Saints, with just 24 days until the new campaign begins. 'I completely understand Southampton being keen to appoint him because his record is very, very impressive," Goodman told talkSPORTBET. Sky Sports pundit and commentator Don Goodman Advertisement "With what he's done in his young coaching career. He's a young, modern head coach with a hunger to prove himself in England. "And actually for me, it's probably a match made in heaven if I'm honest with you, and it's a great opportunity for Will Still. "Southampton in the Championship are obviously going to find it a lot easier than they did last season in the Premier League. 'Obviously like all relegated clubs, you expect a massive turnover of players, don't you? Players who will be leaving, new players coming in. 'I think that project is underway, but I'd be very, very surprised if they're not mixing it at the top in the Championship. I think he's a good appointment.' Saints host newly-promoted Wrexham in their first league encounter, in front of the Sky Sports cameras at 12:30pm on Saturday, August 9.

He believes it's all "a bit of a mess" at the club right now and that promotion out of the third tier is nowhere near a given. "I would say, at this stage, it's probably going to be hard to back Cardiff City to get promoted or be in contention in League One next season under these circumstances," Goodman told Football League World. ‌ "They don't have a head coach, we don't know which players are staying, which players are going. "We don't know what the budget is for them to bring players in, it's all a bit of a mess really. "It would be very, very hard to predict that they will be automatic promotion contenders at this stage. Article continues below "Maybe as the summer goes on and we find out who the head coach is and how many of the better players are staying. "But at this point, it's hard to say."
