US stock futures slip amid US-China trade tensions
U.S. stock futures are lower after major stock indexes eked out a gain on the first trading day of the month despite rising trade tensions between the U.S. and China. "It appears the market took solace in the White House signaling that President (Donald) Trump and Xi Jinping would talk this week," said Mike O'Rourke, chief market strategist at JonesTrading. At 6:20 A.M. ET, futures linked to the blue-chip Dow fell -0.40%, while broad S&P 500 index futures dropped -0.45% and tech-heavy Nasdaq futures slipped -0.44%. Before the bell Dollar General, Signet Jewelers and Nio are set to report earnings. Stocks to watch include: EchoStar said it won't make about $183 million in cash interest payments on a series of Dish's notes. The non-payment was made in light of recent uncertainty raised by the Federal Communications Commission, it said. Pegasystem raised its full-year outlook above analysts' forecasts. US sanctions three 'Hezbollah officials and financial facilitators'

'These individuals, located in Lebanon and Iran, collaborate with Hezbollah leadership to manage significant financial transfers from international donors, which are crucial to the Hezbollah budget,' the State Department added in a statement. 'This action supports President (Donald) Trump's whole of government policy of maximum pressure against Iran and its terrorist proxies like Hezbollah,' the statement said. It added that the United States is 'committed to supporting Lebanon by exposing and disrupting funding schemes for Hezbollah's terrorist activities and Iran's destabilizing influence in the region.' 'Iran and Hezbollah cannot be allowed to keep Lebanon captive. The United States will continue using tools at its disposal until this terrorist group no longer threatens the Lebanese people and the whole region,' the State Department said. A U.S. Treasury statement identified the sanctioned individuals as Mu'in Daqiq Al-'Amili, Fadi Nehme and Jihad Alami.

Bipartisan group of US senators introduce 'hard-hitting' sanctions against Russia
A bipartisan group of U.S. senators introduced "hard-hitting" sanctions against Russia in a press release on April 1. "The dominating view in the United States Senate is that Russia is the aggressor, and that this horrific war and Putin's aggression must end now and be deterred in the future," the press release said. In March, the White House let an exemption on the Russian banking system expire, . U.S. lawmakers have previously for introducing strong sanctions against Russia if it does not cooperate in peace talks to end its war against Ukraine. A group of 50 senators is leading the effort, with 25 Republican and 25 Democratic senators backing the proposal.
