Joe Thomas set to rock Ndlala Mall grand opening

After mesmerising South Africans with his performance on Saturday at the Women's Day Celebration at Wanderers Cricket Stadium in Johannesburg, R&B sensation Joe Thomas has scored himself another gig in SA. This follows after Ndlala Mall added a second day for the highly anticipated Ndlala Mall grand opening in Pretoria on 22 August 2025. What was once set to be a spectacular two-day celebration saw its Friday show briefly drop from the lineup. This comes after Tank, who was initially booked to perform at the Ndlala Mall grand opening on 2 August, withdrew from the event. Organisations promptly added Donell Jones to last week's lineup to maintain the momentum and excitement. However, in a move that reaffirms his dedication to supporters, Ndlala has reinstated the full original program to ensure that fans get the complete experience they were promised. Joe Thomas will headline Friday's Grand Opening ceremony, with Donell Jones leading Saturday's lineup. Joseph Lewis Thomas, better known as Joe, is an American R&B singer who rose to fame in the 1990s with hits like Stutter , I Wanna Know , and All the Things Your Man Won't Do . He has released several chart-topping albums, including My Name Is Joe and Better Days . Thomas is ready to captivate fans with his show at the mall's grand opening. 'Remember, the event was initially scheduled for 2 days; this is us keeping the promise to give people an opportunity to choose their favourite,' says Ndlala. The international star revealed that he is staying longer in South Africa after recently performing at a Women's Day Celebration. 'South Africa, I have a surprise for you. I am staying to support my friend Thami Ndlala,' Thomas proudly announced. Thami Ndlala, husband to media personality Lerato Kganyago, made headlines by booking the FNB Stadium for Valentine's Day 2021. He is a self-made billionaire entrepreneur who built a vast business empire through education and early independence. Ndlala is CEO of Ndlala Mall in Arcadia, a modern retail and lifestyle hub once known as Sterland Mall. The mall is connected to Ndlala Oligarch Hotel and luxury apartments, symbolising modern development and sophistication. Thami also founded Ndlalayesizwe Real Estate, an international company with offices in South Africa, London, and the United States. Ndlalayesizwe owns and manages key properties like Ndlala Dynasty and Ndlala Seigniory, upscale residential developments in Pretoria. His other notable holdings include 12 on Hillel Villa 7 Spa in Northcliff, Johannesburg, highlighting a diverse real estate portfolio. Joe Thomas extends his SA stay to headline Ndlala Mall grand opening

Ndlala Mall's opening was postponed to late August after R&B artist Tank pulled out. Donell Jones was announced as his replacement last week and today organisers reveal that Joe Thomas will serenade fans at the same event. Both artists are returnees as they have performed in Mzansi in recent years. Joe Thomas' show-stopping performance at Saturday's Women's Day Celebration at Wanderers Cricket Stadium, has prompted the R&B sensation to stay in South Africa longer than planned. Thomas' next stage appearance is set to take place at the grand opening of the Ndlala Mall in Arcadia, Pretoria, on Friday 22 August. The mall's CEO is Thami Ndlala, husband of media personality Lerato Kganyago, who became famous for his grand romantic gestures after booking FNB Stadium for his wife's Valentine's Day celebration in 2021. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ndlala Arena (@ndlala_arena) The opening of the revamped mall was initially set for 2 August with Maybe I Deserve hit maker Tank, born Durrell Babbs, as the main act. However, due to reasons that the organisers have yet to disclose, the artist who had allegedly been paid a deposit already, pulled out of the opening. Last week, Donell Jones was announced as his replacement. Jones' smooth vocals are expected to serenade fans with his hits, including Knocks Me Off My Feet, Shorty (Got her eyes on me) and Where I Wanna be on Saturday 23 August. 'South Africa I have a surprise for my beautiful people. I have extended my trip and I'm staying to support my friend Thami Ndlala. On Friday, 22 August, I will be performing and celebrating the Ndlala Mall grand launch,' said Thomas in a video statement on Monday. supplied With the relaunch scheduled to take place over 2 days, Ndlala said adding Thomas to the artist line-up was his way of keeping his commitment to give people an opportunity to choose their favourite between the two headlining acts. Jones last performed in Mzansi 10 years ago. Extending his stay after the Women's Day performance suggests that Thomas agrees with other international artists who have stated that the energy of South African fans is like no other. After what the Good Girls hitmaker did last weekend, fans are in for a treat at the mall's opening. Tickets are limited and can be purchased on the mall's website.

Donell Jones replaces Tank as headliner at Ndlala Mall's grand relaunch

Donell Jones will replace Tank as the headliner for the upcoming Ndlala Mall relaunch in Pretoria. Previously known as Sterland Mall, it has been revamped to include a state-of-the-art arena, promising an elevated entertainment hub. The reimagined mall seeks to revive Pretoria's entertainment legacy while fostering job opportunities and empowering local talent. Following last week's announcement that US R&B legend Tank could no longer perform as the headliner for businessman Thami Ndlala and his media personality wife Lerato Kganyago's Ndlala Mall, organisers have announced his replacement - U Know What's Up hitmaker Donell Jones. The Ndlala Mall, previously known as Pretoria's iconic Sterland Mall, was scheduled to relaunch on Saturday 2 August. However, organisers announced its postponement last Wednesday, saying that Tank could no longer make it, 'as something has fallen apart businesswise, which is going to keep him from fulfilling his obligation'. 'It is an honour to have an artist of such a great calibre in the music industry as the main performer at the opening,' Ndlala said. Now scheduled for Saturday 23 August, the mall's relaunch will be hosted in its state-of-the-art Ndlala Arena, boasting 55 seats. It will also feature performances by local artists such as Zonke Dikana and Vusi Nova. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ndlala Mall (@ndlala_mall) Though it was unclear when Ndlala and Kganyago acquired the mall, best known as Sterland, it was a once-loved destination for movie theatre goers. Its popularity declined over the years due to the ageing infrastructure, as well as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and its effect on cinemas. Previously, Ndlala said: 'This isn't just a new chapter, it's the revival of Pretoria's beating heart! Ndlala Mall carries the torch of our city's iconic entertainment legacy, reimagined for a new generation. 'We're creating real employment opportunities for our community while building a stage where local talent shines and global stars will dazzle. The energy you'll feel here, in these walls, through these experiences, will echo the magic this local has always been known for. This is more than a launch, it's the homecoming.'

US star Donell Jones to headline Ndlala Mall opening in Pretoria

After a brief postponement, the highly anticipated grand opening of Ndlala Mall is set to dazzle Pretoria on August 23 — and it's bringing international star power with it. American R&B star Donell Jones will headline the launch event at the state of the art Ndlala Arena, a 550-seat venue in the new retail and lifestyle development in Arcadia. The multi-platinum artist is best known for his 1999 classic album Where I Wanna Be and hit single U Know What's Up, which topped charts and still pulls in more than 1.2-million monthly Spotify listeners. Jones won't be alone on stage. He'll be joined by South African music heavyweights Zonke Dikana and Vusi Nova, renowned for their chart-topping ballads and contributions to the R&B and soul scenes. The mall, adjacent to the Ndlala Oligarch Hotel & Apartments, merges shopping, lifestyle and entertainment into one luxury precinct. With a star-studded line-up and a sleek new venue, August 23 is set to mark a new chapter in Pretoria's entertainment and retail scene.
