Park Bo Gum, Kim So Hyun's GOOD BOY Ending Explained: Did Yoon Dong Ju win against Min Ju Yeong?
GOOD BOY's last week's episodes aired on July 19-20, bringing the K-drama to a thrilling conclusion. The finale features an epic showdown between the special force officers and the gangsters. Episodes 15 and 16 are marked by brutal fights and unexpected twists. Read to know how the story ends, including whether the protagonist's revenge arc is finally complete. Did Yoon Dong Ju catch Min Ju Yeong and put him behind bars? Yoon Dong Ju (Park Bo Gum) was boiling under the fire of revenge since Min Ju Yeong (Oh Jung Se) orchestrated the murder of his brother-like friend and also shot an almost fatal bullet at the friend's mom. In the last week's episodes of GOOD BOY, Dong Ju, Ji Han Na (Kim So Hyun) and the rest of the special force team uses their wits to locate the hide-out of the villainous Min Ju Yeong. Dong Ju finds him while he is nearly being beaten to death by the gangsters he previously worked with. The former gold medalist boxer uses his fists and receives assistance from Han Na's gunshots to defeat the gang and save Min Ju Yeong from them and put him behind bars. Dong Ju also settled a past score with his former coach, finally beating him for the first time. The other teammates also have their own heroic moments, taking down key underworld figures linked to Min Ju Yeong. Does it end well for Dong Ju, Han Na and the other teammates? Yes, all the main characters receive their respective happy endings. Dong Ju, Han Na, Kim Jong Hyeon (Lee Sang Yi), Ko Man Sik (Heo Sung Tae) and Sin Jae Hong (Tae Won Seok) recieve medals for their bravery and also get promoted. Dong Ju shows signs of speedy recovery, thriving in life as his friend's mom's son and Han Na's lover. Man Sik is thrilled to know that his wife is carrying their second child. Jae Hong's family is proud of him and all 4 of them are set to continue their good work as police officers. As for Jong Hyeon, he is seen in a fencer uniform, hinting at his return to sports.

While it started strong with an impressive cast and a promising premise, many viewers felt the series lost momentum in the second half. Directed by Shim Na Yeon and written by Lee Dae Il, the JTBC drama struggled to maintain its initial intrigue, with fans calling the latter episodes a bit of a stretch. If the finale left you with questions, here's a breakdown of what went down. What is Good Boy About? Good Boy follows the journey of Yoon Dong Ju (Park Bo Gum), a former Olympic boxing champion who has traded the ring for a police badge. Struggling with a fading career and health issues, Dong Ju is assigned to a special police task force composed entirely of former elite athletes. These once-celebrated sports stars, each carrying personal baggage and professional frustrations, are often treated as outsiders by their fellow officers. Yet, what they lack in rank or experience, they make up for in sheer determination, physical skill, and moral grit. Joining Dong Ju is a group of fallen sports legends: a sharpshooter sidelined to PR duties, a discus thrower relegated to traffic control, a fencer navigating the world of internal affairs, and a disgraced wrestling coach trying to rebuild his reputation. Together, this unusual team is tasked with tackling violent crimes and systemic corruption. As they confront street-level gangs and high-ranking government conspiracies, they must also face their personal traumas, deteriorating health, and the very institutions that undermined them. At the centre of their battle is Min Ju Yeong (Oh Jung Se), a former customs officer turned underworld kingpin. His criminal reach extends from local gangs to global cartels and even into political offices. The team's mission, which begins with isolated cases, soon transforms into a full-scale war against a deeply embedded web of corruption. Good Boy Ending Explained As the series reaches its climax in episode 16, Min Ju Yeong's final act of terror is revealed. His master plan involves strategically placing explosives throughout Insung City, with the goal of destroying evidence, eliminating rivals, and silencing corrupt officials who could testify against him. Among these plans, his most ruthless scheme targets the Victory Hotel, where a shareholders' meeting becomes ground zero for a chemical attack using hydrogen cyanide, a lethal compound that activates upon exposure to water. Fortunately, Yeon Ha, a conflicted character formerly aligned with Ju Yeong, emerges as a pivotal informant. Motivated by guilt after realising the depth of Ju-yeong's cruelty, including using drugs she manufactured on her own sister and selling them to students, Yeon Ha decides to help the task force. Throughout the second half of the show, she leaks critical intelligence to Dong Ju's team, eventually revealing the nature and location of Ju Yeong's attacks. Her last-minute tip helps intercept one of the explosive trucks, preventing mass casualties and unravelling much of Ju Yeong's intricate plot. Despite the failed hotel attack, Ju Yeong manages to trigger several decoy explosions across the city, spreading fear and chaos. His ultimate escape plan involves boarding a cargo ship, but this too falls apart when members of the Yakuza, angered by his betrayal, arrive ahead of him. The final confrontation unfolds at the dock, where Dong Ju and Jong Hyeon engage in a fierce battle with Ju Yeong's remaining men. As Ju Yeong attempts to flee by diving into the sea, Dong Ju follows him, subdues him underwater, and drags him ashore, handcuffed. After his capture, Ju Yeong is imprisoned. But the story doesn't end with a courtroom or a public trial. In a chilling twist, a mysterious prison guard enters Ju Yeong's cell and silently strangles him to death. Though brief, the scene is heavy with implication: the criminal world Ju Yeong once ruled has finally caught up with him. Meanwhile, Dong Ju's journey also finds closure. His neurological condition, a consequence of years in the ring, continues to affect him, but with support from Han-na, who finally learns about his diagnosis, he begins rehabilitation. He is promoted within the police force, a rare acknowledgement of his sacrifices and integrity. Though the institution remains largely unchanged, Dong-ju's success proves that resilience and honesty can still break through. The task force, once dismissed as misfits, is now respected and valued. Even Ko Man-sik, previously weighed down by disgrace, finds peace when he learns that his wife is pregnant and has never betrayed him. The series closes on a sober but uplifting note. In their final conversation, Ju Yeong warned Dong-ju that 'the system never really changes,' suggesting that rooting out one corrupt man wouldn't change the bigger picture. Dong doesn't argue. Instead, he quietly reaffirms his commitment to keep fighting. Fans say, 'Happy that it's over' Good Boy had all the ingredients to be a blockbuster; however, it failed to strike a chord with viewers. Thanks to Park Bo Gum and Kim So Hyun's fan following, some viewers remained loyal to the drama till the end, and they are now glad that it's over. On the K-drama discussion subreddit, r/kdrama, one fan mentioned, "Stayed for Park Bogum. The end made me smile so much, knowing it was over." Another wrote, "Another example of a K-drama that would have been better as 12 episodes. The best part of episode 16 was watching Park Bo Gum actually eat the product placement egg sandwich; every other actor in a K-drama gently scrapes with their teeth." "I'm glad I'm not the only one relieved this train wreck is getting over 😭. It's such a pity because the cast have visibly worked so hard, but there's only so much one can take of the constant fighting, Dong-ju's plot armour, and the same thing happening every episode. Good Boy – K-drama Episode 12 Recap & Review
Foul Episode 12 of Good Boy starts with us seeing a rare sight – Jae-hong. The guy who has been absent for much of the season's biggest talking points but here he gets his time to shine during the moments at his discus event. Unfortunately, he's not successful like the others. Dong-ju shows up to help him out after though, commiserating him by holding an umbrella from the rain and not saying a word, wanting to be there for him. This bitter taste of defeat cuts us back to the present, where Ju-yeong is determined to get his revenge. He rings Dong-ju and apologizes for underestimating him but it's also worked to get the stagnant fires burning again. Now that he knows this is back to him fighting for scraps and playing dirty, he's relishing going back to basics and getting his hands dirty. This is not dissimilar to how he handled that smuggler from the past. Remember the watch he gave Ju-yeong? Well, it turns out it was a fake and when Ju-yeong found out, he beat the guy down to a bloody pulp outside, taking the real watch for himself. This sets up the stakes for the fight to come, as the news is abuzz with the 26 tons of cash that Man-sik and his team have seized from the containers. The President's office rings but Man-sik and the others play hardball after how unhelpful the police have been. Word is that they're actually taking Golden Bunny to the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to testify. This is good for them, as they can't get Insung to manipulate the case in any way. The group want to celebrate so they head over to Jae-hong's place. Ju-yeong and the gang have a very different reaction to the news about Golden Bunny. There's in-fighting and doubts. Yeon-ha is ready to walk away, despite making all that Candy for him. She actually slaps him in the face when he threatens to hurt her sister. While Jae-hong is accepted for his loan, Dong-ju is not doing so hot. He passes out at the gym and palms off his medical issues when Han-na questions him. He lies about the blood on his shirt, claiming it's kimchi brine. They don't have long to think about this though, as Man-sik has organized for the group to set up base at the Pawnshop. They're determined to build a proper case against Ju-yeong now, gathering evidence and doing what they can while he's on the back-foot. Jae-hong takes some paid time off to help, thanks in part to being approved for the loan, and joins the group in the investigation. However, they're soon called out when they receive reports about bad drugs in Insung. This is obviously Yeon-ha and Ju-yeong's doing. Dong-ju spies Drug Demon walking (see: stumbling weakly) away from the scene and she eventually collapses. Turns out her sugar levels are way down, given she's diabetic. Just like before, she's captured and put into handcuffs after Dong-ju helps get her sugar levels up. Naturally, she escapes… again. Jae-hong and Dong-ju are then tasked with heading over to the Myeongjin Shopping District, given the drugs have been doing the rounds. While they're out and about, Jae-hong receives another message, confirming that the earlier loan has actually been declined due to 'unforeseen issues'. This is Jong-gu's doing, and he's asked for additional documents. While Jae-hong is busy dealing with this, Dong-ju is attacked by thugs but this time, his medical condition gets the better of him. He can barely fight back and he completely underestimates Jong-gu too, who has a pretty stiff right hook. He hits right where it hurts too, claiming Dong-ju is 'punch drunk' and belittling him completely. He's eventually taken away, and when our group catch wind of this, they're shocked. Unfortunately, Dong-ju is taken to Ju-yeong and left a bloody mess inside a shipping container. With our antagonist now aware of Dong-ju's medical condition, they inject him with a lethal dose and leave him to die. However, Yeon-ha is here and given he saved her life beforehand, she reciprocates. She tells him to hold on for 10 minutes, and once they're moving in the container, gives him the antidote to counteract the effects of this drug. Dong-ju does eventually manage to escape and runs away, thanks in part to Yeon-ha's assistance, who switches sides and helps him out. Killing kids is a step too far, even for the Drug Demon. Unfortunately, Insung is not like other towns and this time, there's no getting away from Ju-yeong's thugs. Dong-ju is stabbed in the gut and the news even report him as a dangerous fugitive too. This also has the added bonus of allowing the group to realize exactly where he is and work to try and get him before Insung's crooked cops do. Dong-ju is heading for Eungcheon-dong, which is where Man-sik is going. Unfortunately, things are made that much worse when Ju-yeong decides to put a huge bounty on Dong-ju's head. With the police after him legally, every gangster in the area are now after him illegally too, tightening the noose around him. It's Jong-hyeon who manages to find him first, but Dong-ju is bleeding out and struggling. Yeon-ha shows up just after and actually helps patch him up and encourages Jong-hyeon to take him to the hospital so he can be detoxed. Man-sik suggests they move him to Seongjin City first because Insung is way too hot right now. Mr Baek almost gets them on the road too, while Leo shows up to see Sergei, who's currently hanging with Gwang-se. Unfortunately, Sergei meets a sticky end here. It's worth noting we don't know if our Bald Eagle survives this time or not. Jong-hyeon is in a rough way too after his car is T-boned so he reluctantly calls his brother and asks for help. In fact, he even offers to hand over his shares in exchange for this favour too. Jong-hyeon's brother eventually goes for it, and Dong-ju sees a doctor. As he does, the group show up and help him out. This fight is obviously not going to end anytime soon, but Han-na is prepared to speed things along. She packs up her stuff and heads over to Insung to confront Ju-yeong. The Episode Review So this entire episode sees the pendulum swing back in favour of Ju-yeong once again. Sure, he's losing his money but he's still just as dangerous as he was before. In fact, it's almost like Ju-yeong has shed his cool exterior and we're seeing his 'final form' now and he's prepared to scrap it out to the death. Of course, a lot of the problems stem from the fact that Dong-ju just doesn't have the same resources and manpower that Ju-yeong does. In fact, this episode we see that he barely breaks a sweat while turning an entire city against Dong-ju. How do you fight back against that? This definitely has elements of John Wick about it, but the interesting wildcard here is Yeon-ha, who's now working with our group. Once again though the police underestimate the Drug Demon and she manages to escape, while we do get a rehash of the familiar pattern of having our group take one step forward before being slammed back and taking two steps backward. Even with this in mind though, there's enough here to sink your teeth into and Good Boy's ending certainly looks like it's about to tighten the screw going into the final few weeks. Good Boy – K-drama Episode 8 Recap & Review
The Aimless Bullet Episode 8 of Good Boy begins with Han-na narrating how some days feel like a stray bullet. That stray bullet has well and truly pierced Han-na's heart though, as she and Dong-ju wind up kissing, which obviously is where the last episode closed out. Han-na lets Dong-ju stay the night but he winds up sleeping in while she heads out to work. Han-na has a big day ahead of her, given it's the community day with the police at the Insung Metropolitan Police Agency. The whole team are there, doing what they can to entertain the kids. The commissioner is still pissed though, but he's doing a little better thanks to Dong-ju giving him a massage. As a result he gets a 30 day suspension. In that time though, the team decide to take this one step at a time, rather than going right for the big players. Tio begin with, they're going to focus on the drugs and the supply route of materials seized from Bbong-pil. However, Yeon-ha and the others are starting to grow impatient with Ju-young. The ships leave in a week and they need their gear out on the streets but right now, there's a transport delay. Ju-young is arrogant and claims he likes seeing Dong-ju and the others squirm, but his cockiness could be his undoing. As he heads to Insung Port to oversee the ephedrine, the team figure out its location too. Now, Man-sik has been itching like crazy and they also figure out that he's been bitten by red fire ants. These ants were found at the port last year too. The ants came in with the cargo that passed through Russia, which is the same route the Ephedrine came in. Given the risk, they call in an extermination team to do a quarantine sweep. The team show up dressed as quarantine workers, but they're not alone. Yeon-ha is here too and the group quickly handcuff her. She tries to wind up Jong-hyeon and even begins seizing on the ground too. Yeon-ha manages to get away, while the group find the ephedrine in her absence. Unfortunately, Jong-hyeon winds up bitten but he's allergic to the bites. Jong-hyeon is crazed and begs them not to inject him (given he's scared of needles) so Dong-ju knocks him out and they inject him all the same, in a rather humorous turn of events. The team show up back at HQ with the drugs and get a celebratory meal out of it, but there's no after-party for Dong-ju. Jong-hyeon lets Dong-ju stay in his spare room, with boxes piled high. As he looks through the boxes though, Dong-ju finds old newspaper clippings of Jong-hyeon's career and how it ended thanks to an eye injury during fencing. The stick went right through his face and into his eye, which happens to be the same side that Dong-ju punched him on. Ju-young is pissed when he finds out what's gone down, and the group look to him for inspiration over what to do next. He decides to try and get it back, intercepting the drugs en-route to the secured facility. Meanwhile, we find out that Lee Gwang-se isn't actually dead. The hair transplant guy is still alive, given the shot missed him. Leo received a call from his mama at the time and promised her he wouldn't go against her wishes. Ju-young though is not so righteous as he tasks Gwang-se to tell the team exactly what's been said at this meeting. He does as instructed, and the team are now convinced that Min has a mole inside the agency so they need to figure out who that is. Unfortunately, Ju-young is playing 4D chess here. The Commissioner gave the order to pull the riot police away to city hall to quell a protest, leaving the transport severely under protected. With only a light team to protect it, the transport heads through Jungdong Tunnel, and is prompted ambushed. The group come under attack, one after another, and they all find themselves forced to fight. Jae-hong's car is flipped upside down, while the others all have their own battles to contend with. Although Dong-ju manages to come out on top VS a whole gang of motorcyclists, the fate for everybody else is still unclear, leaving everything on an agonizing cliffhanger. The Episode Review The fight at the end of Good Boy is easily one of the best moments of the whole K-drama. Seeing the team each fighting their own battles, with slightly different weapons or styles, works so well to show their own growth and how these misfits have come together. That is a brutal cliffhanger to end this week's double-bill of episodes on though and after yesterday's rather slow chapter, this one absolutely floors it with a pulsating episode of comedy shenanigans, plot progression and action. Seeing more context around Jong-hyeon's past is a nice touch too, while Ju-young's plan appears as if it's going to come off without a hitch… but things are a bit different this time. Not only has Dong-ju managed to come out of his fight on top, he looks ready to jump in and help the others too. However, I'm not sure if everybody will make it through to the other side. Maybe it's a bit of a wild prediction here but the show feels like it needs one of the team members to be killed off to really ratchet up the tension to the highest level possible. Whether the writers actually would go this far or not though, is debatable. However, even without that, Good Boy has been a super enjoyable watch and that ending makes next week's double-bill a must-watch.
